To wax or not to wax?

Rozi77 · 23/09/2010 17:11

I am 36w, 5 days and am getting everything ready for birth! bags packed etc! Can anyone give me advice on waxing the lady garden/fanfando? Should this be done now or is it too painful? have not had one done in 4 months as I can't see my lady garden at all... Have poor Dh doing perineum massages each night... but thought I may want to improve the view with so many strangers staring at it on D DayGrin

i wouldn't. but then i am not a waxing type anyway

no-one will care what it looks like. they see them ALL the time, they really won't be worried whether or not the next one is waxed!

ShatnersBassoon · 23/09/2010 17:15

The view may be improved by leaving the undergrowth in place. Not everyone likes to see shaven vagagnes at work.

Nobody will care whether it's smooth or hairy, but if it makes you feel better, perhaps you should get it all removed.

porcamiseria · 23/09/2010 17:19

i immaced it all off, nicer to keep clean afterwards.

Bonsoir · 23/09/2010 17:22

Wax, definitely. It gets pretty grotty afterwards - much easier to stay fresh if you are hairless!

muslimah28 · 23/09/2010 19:07

agree with Bonsoir's sentiments but porcamiseria is right, immac is easier

SquallyRose · 23/09/2010 19:38

I am planning on waxing this time round but only because I hadn't bothered before, ended up with an emergency c-section and was subjected to the lovely sensation of being dry shaved by a midwife, the regrowth was more painful than the scar! I decided this time I'd get it waxed once I couldn't see it so that if I have another I can politely tell them where to stick their razor Grin

DomesticG0ddess · 23/09/2010 21:15

My friend had a wax about 3 weeks before the big day and she was in absolute agony - bruised, bleeding and sore for days. So I think I will stick with the Immac (isn't it called Veet now???), when I can be bothered. It is on my To Do list.

Chippychop · 23/09/2010 21:20

Stick with what you do now...if you're normally a waxer get it done...who knows when you'll find time to go again and at least you won't feel like you've totally let yourself go. I was waxed before both of mine an as dd was cs was glad I had waxed before anyone else got their hands on me!

pozzled · 23/09/2010 21:22

No one cares in the slightest except you. Go with whatever you feel most comfortable with.

MrsTicklemouse · 23/09/2010 21:25

I did nothing with my lady garden but did do legs when labour started! Blush

bamboobutton · 23/09/2010 21:26

will beauty therapists wax pg women now then?

we were taught not to when i did a beauty course(6yrs ago) as the bump gets in the way of tearing the strips off.

unless you have a hot wax

Chippychop · 23/09/2010 21:41

Yes they definitely do now

My beautician told me to get a beard trimmer for bikini - so even if I couldn't see what I was doing I wouldn't hurt myself... yeuch

Chippychop · 23/09/2010 22:17

Ha ha ha, that's funny Smile

Bechka · 23/09/2010 22:56

Yes, definitely do this!

I had an ELCS and was glad that I'd kept up with Brazilian, as I didn't want anyone going at me with a razor. Just not very nice thing to have done to you, better deal with it yourself or have the beauty salon do it, in a calm and relaxed manner!

nattiecake · 24/09/2010 00:37

Ouch. Worried about a potential dry razor now. Thought goes through me, blegh!!

Lady garden is nicely trimmed anyway, and bikini line epilated, but I would assume that I would need to be completely hair free if I had to have an EMCS?! Shock (PS Legs and eyebrows also done, plus mani and pedi. Gosh I'm prepared, lol)

nymphadora · 24/09/2010 06:45

Don't need to be completely hair free, just across the top.

I'm still looking for someone to do me as I'm goin in less than 2 weeks and all the local people have rooms upstairs which I can't manage on crutches :(

Rozi77 · 24/09/2010 07:34

Thanks so much for all responses, I think I will definitely have it done this weekend. I read somewhere that you should not use hair removal creams and bleaches during pregnancy as your skin becomes more sensitive. I would hate to have a dry razor anywhere near my bits Shock

To be honest unless you are a yeti where they cut for a c-section is way above your bikini line. And they really won't give a rat's ass anyway. And as for cleanliness - actually it's much more hygenic to be hairy down there than not, that's why we have hair down there. I really hate the waxing trend that seems to insinuate so many aspects of women's bodies are disgusting.

DuelingFanjo · 24/09/2010 11:00

how hairy are you all!!!? Blimey.

I won't be doing anything.

muslimah28 · 24/09/2010 11:15

its' not just about c sections- if you have a tear or an episiotomy a hair free area can be helpful too. they wouldn't shave you before cutting you in this case but it would make it easier to rejoin the skin in the right places.

it's just cleaner anyway. for those of you who are interested, as muslims its part of our religion to keep our privates hair free for cleanliness!

upahill · 24/09/2010 11:19

It might be off subject slightly but I got my waxing done, sorted out my legs, had a pedicure and manicure, had my eyebrows waxed and eyelashes tinted, hair done.

It achieved a couple of things.
1 It was a distraction and kept me busy during the 'waiting game'
2 I felt better and a bit more groomed
3 The Photos everyone takes last forever!!!!!

comtessa · 24/09/2010 11:30

I'm with upahill, it's definitely nice to feel like I'm taking care of myself.

Bikini wax - tick (but will need re-doing before due date - 30+5)
Leg wax - tomorrow
Haircut - tick
Pedicure - done
Manicure - next week

I'm not usually a high-maintenance sort of person but I'm now huge and it makes me feel better to make sure I'm well groomed. And leg shaving is now seriously awkward for me!

Honeybee79 · 24/09/2010 11:52

I have just returned from getting a bikini line and leg wax (38 + 2). Skin is def more sensitive when pregnant but it wasn't too bad. Have been getting it done regularly for years and it felt right to keep it maintained at the moment. Not sure I would get the entire lady garden waxed though . . .

It's nice to feel groomed and I needed the distraction!
