Paid for private test as have looked after some v poorly babies who contracted GBS. Having read up on it it seems the ideal is to have IV antibiotics throughout labour (if there's time!) then the baby needs to be observed for a day or so afterwards (so no early discharge which is fine).
Just wondered if anyone else in same boat or has been through it.

Was originally told by midwife to wait until contractions are 3-4minutes apart before going to hospital but thinking I should probably go in sooner to allow time for IV antibiotics.....

Hi. I tested positive for GBS when I was pregnant with ds2.
I was told that the main danger period would be once the waters broke, and because I didn't have a clue when I lost ds1's waters, I asked to be induced so the whole labour could be controlled as much as possible from the start.
I went in on tuesday morning and they attempted ARM at 10am. It didn't work but I was put on IV AB's at 10:30 and then every 4 hours until delivery.
Each session of AB's lasted about 20 minutes.
I finally went into labour at 11:30pm after 4 ARM attempts and 3 gel pesseries.
Ds2 was born at 11:37pm.
We stayed inhospital fo9r just over 48 hours and he was checked over every 4 hours. His temp, his heart rate and something else.

If there isn't time to treat you, they will treat the baby after delivery.
The thing is, they know that you have it, so they will be monitoring closely for signs of infection on the baby.
More risk is if you haven't had the test.

Goodluck, it will all be fine.
I would suggest though, that at the first signs of labour, you call the hospital, tell them you are GBS+ and see what they advise

Hello Gingerbics

I was GBS+ and went to hosp when contractions were about 3-4 mins apart. Upon arrival my waters broke and the mw toddled off to get the AB prescription from the doctors in the consultant led part of the hospital.
At which point I realised I needed to push and I was yelling asking for the IV ABs
DS was born 3 hours after we go there.
4 hours is best case scenario but as long as they're administered before baby comes out I believe that's okay.

And yes, we stayed in for about 36 hours in total after the birth but that could have been more to do with timings - DS born v early morning and then it was the w/e so we had to wait for sign off from the paediatrician following obs.

Hope this sets your mind at rest - good luck with the impending arrival

Awww thanks Silvery and Olivia, really appreciate hearing your stories , yes it does help me know a bit more what to expect.

Really hoping there's time for at least 1 dose of IV abs before bubba is born. But it sounds like even if there's no time, as long as the baby is closely observed after than hopefully any signs of infection can be picked up in good time.

Thanks again!
