I would like a completely one side view please

DS was only 7.5 pounds, DD nearly 9 pounds. This one feels a lot bigger and heavier (although could be the position as well - not back to back for once). Midwife thinks will be over 9 pounds.

To me that sounds huge - all my friends have these diddy 6 or 7 pound babies and thought DD was huge. I am not too phased at 9 pounds but just keep wondering 'what if its bigger than that'.

Am hoping for active labour - lots of positions and hopefully water birth.

Third babies just fall out right?

I had my second baby on Friday, first was 8lb 8oz, this one was 9lb 8oz. All got a bit dramatic towards the end and I ended up pushing him out in 4 minutes.

Does that help?

happynappies · 04/08/2010 12:45

Dd was 9lb 3oz, ds was 9lb 13oz, am hoping third babies just fall out too! With ds although there was a long lead-up, when things actually got going he arrived quite swiftly, gas and air only... am hoping can do same this time, due in 5 weeks. Good luck

weegiemum · 04/08/2010 12:46

My first was 9lb12 and OP so not what you want to hear about ....

But 2nd was 9lb3, 10 hour labour, second stage of just 15 mins, teeny tiny tear, no bother.

3rd was smaller (early) but still 7lb15 - she came out very similar to the previous one!

All the best!

DaisySteiner · 04/08/2010 12:50

DS was 10lb 13oz. Had a really easy labour at home and he was born in 2 pushes with just a small graze which didn't need stitching. (One of my friends said I must have a bucket fanny )

FoghornLeghorn · 04/08/2010 12:52

DD3 was 9lb 11oz, born in 1hr 59 minutes with no pain relief (other than the pool) and no tears or stiches. Completely different to DD1&2.

Good luck

ShowOfHands · 04/08/2010 12:54

Bigger babies are often easier to birth as gravity's on your side. My friends has had 4, getting heavier each time. No 4 was 10lbs. Labours got easier, faster and the biggest was the only one that didn't leave a tear.

I think it's position and head circumference that's really key.

My dd was average sized and it was an absolute pigging nightmare due to malpositioning.

OrmRenewed · 04/08/2010 12:55

DD was 9lbs 6 - took about 2 hours from the start of serious contractions to birth.

DS#2 was 10lb 4 and he was born in about 10 hrs - most of that not serious contractions. Had to go to hospital sadly though as my waters broke 48 hrs before. But not really that bad at all.

Now DS1....nah I won't share that one Suffice to say I was too inexperienced and scared and I made it worse for myself. But even then it was OK.

seeker · 04/08/2010 13:00

I had had a wonderful nights's sleep, then I was in the bath at 6.30 in the morning with dd, when I felt a twinge or two. We dropped dd off at a friends house, and got to the hospital at about 9.10. Ds was born at 9.47, weighing 10lbs6oz. I tore a bit, and we were a bit shell shocked because everything happened so quickly, but it was lovely. Back on the ward, gloriously untired in time for lunch! Don't worry - let gravity be your friend!

peppapighastakenovermylife · 04/08/2010 13:14

Fantastic stories thank you

Now if you could just tell me that the braxton hicks I am having are actually contractions and I am probably 8 cms already that would be good too

My second was 11 lb 4oz. He was my fastest labour and the only one that did not require stitches.

My third was 9lb 15 oz and I had 12 mins of pushing with him before he literally popped out!

All will be fine. Big babies are fab.

Grandhighpoohba · 04/08/2010 13:25

last week, 10lb 8 baby, 2 hours of labour from start to finish with gas and air only, water birth. Was amazing!

izzybiz · 04/08/2010 13:27

My first was 7lb 4oz, very long labour

My second was 7lb 15oz two and a half hours labour

My third was 10lb 10oz! three and a half hours labour.

All were done with no pain relief, but I'm afraid no 3 was by far the most painful!

littlecritter · 04/08/2010 13:47

Third baby was 9lb 4oz. Start to finish was 3 hours, little bit of gas and air, no stitches. Easy peasy. He was born with membranes intact though and that is apparently much less painful.

Firawla · 04/08/2010 15:07

my 2nd was 9 1/2 lb, first was 7 1/2, the 2nd was much easier! was a lot quicker, not being back to back helped a lot i think. agree with the previous comment about bigger babies & gravity, i felt that i could feel the gravity effect a lot? although could have something to do with position too had a more active birth not lying down
good luck!

EasilyConfusedIndith · 04/08/2010 15:11

First was 6lb 15oz, second was 9lb 4oz so a pretty huge leap! She was a doddle, 5 hours, born at home in water, no stitches.

MathsMadMummy · 04/08/2010 15:21

DD 8lb 4oz, horrible birth (back to back, useless epidural etc) 2hrs of pushing. DS 11lb 14oz, 21mins pushing. pethidine in early labour but then in first stage had TENS and G&A, nothing for pushing (too late for epidural!). painful obviously but quite easy as far as pushing a person out of you goes.

I was terrified about tearing because I knew he'd be over 9lb, but apparently that's less likely if you don't tear the first time, which I didn't.

this time round I also stayed upright/leaning over until transition. I also breathed much more successfully (so the MW said) - really pushed the breath out slowly and loudly (!) you should be able to feel the breath on your hand if you hold it 1ft in front of you. I also braced my feet and really pushed them down into the bed, I'd read about it and it really seemed to help!

mamaloco · 04/08/2010 15:26

Sticking to the good stories
My mum had me in 3 hours, 4.350 Kg (9.6)

My cousin had my godson in 5h, 5 kg (11)

mamaloco · 04/08/2010 15:30

The hours are for the entire labour I don't know about the pushing phases...

Tillyscoutsmum · 04/08/2010 15:33

DS was 10lb 5 oz - pushing stage was 6 minutes (I won't mention the previous 4 days of contractions but he was OP - as soon as he was the right way, it was easy . Gas and air and a birthing stool were amazing

peppapighastakenovermylife · 04/08/2010 20:07

These are all fab thank you.

Bet he turns out to be a tiddler now

My first was a 2 day pain in the neck ( and everywhere else!) she was 9lb 15 and I had episotomy. Was threatened with forceps, clip on babys head to monitor heart rate etc.

2nd baby measuring huge all way through. Was really nervous, and then went 8 days over! Woke a five with strong contractions lasting 45sec every 3/4 mins. Got to hospital at seven and was 7cm, ds born at half eight weighing 10lb 6oz! He was much easier than smaller dd.. I did tear a small bit but was a lovely natural birth and the proudest moment of my life. Good luck!

heymango · 04/08/2010 20:26

DC3 was typical stop/start third labour, not really painful until the end, and that was very quick. Definitely my best birth!

DC4 was nearly 10lbs, was pretty quick and couldn't really tell the difference when pushing.

heymango · 04/08/2010 20:28

Sorry meant to say good luck and you will be fine! Look forward to hearing your news.

biggest · 04/08/2010 22:14

Another recent one! 1st baby was 7lb 4, induced, too much epidural, forceps, hideous.
DD arrived yesterday, expected to be nearly 10lbs. I delivered her with no pain relief as labour went from 0-60 in no time, slight tear, sent home within 10 hours. Same as others, contractions were 6 mins apart for a couple of days then suddenly I was 8 cm dliated and ready to push outside the hospital !
Couldn't have been more different - I still can't believe how straightforward it was. I stayed upright for the fun bit, holding on to the back of the bed and squatting.
Good luck!

biggest · 04/08/2010 22:15

Oh and she was 8lb 15!
