Tell me your lovely stories about delivering big babies quickly and easily

I would like a completely one side view please

DS was only 7.5 pounds, DD nearly 9 pounds. This one feels a lot bigger and heavier (although could be the position as well - not back to back for once). Midwife thinks will be over 9 pounds.

To me that sounds huge - all my friends have these diddy 6 or 7 pound babies and thought DD was huge. I am not too phased at 9 pounds but just keep wondering 'what if its bigger than that'.

Am hoping for active labour - lots of positions and hopefully water birth.

Third babies just fall out right?

DS2, now 16 weeks, was 10 lb 1 oz (though I was not prewarned!) and came out in 6 hours, was already 6 cm dilated when I got to hospital (and did not delay at all, other than to wait for DH to get home from work), then buoyed by being >5cm, I went for meptid instead of epidural, and just lay on my side for 3 hours, coping with it until I got to 10 cm. At which point I had to walk (!) to a different delivery room (don't ask) and then waters broke soon afterwards and he came out in about 6 pushes with the smallest of natural tears.

For me this was a total result, compared with 16 hour labour, forceps delivery and episiotomy for his lighter older bro!

my second and third babies were 9lb 3oz and 9lb 5oz, both labours were fine, baby no 4 was 10lb 13oz only in labour for an hour, had him in the birth pool, no tearing etc all fine! am now expecting no 5!

the worst labour i had was my first who was only 8lb 7oz, seems big babies are easier to deliver?!

good luck am sure it will be fine xxx

Dd 8 lb 9 oz out within 30 mins of getting to hospital. My brother(11lb) flew out so quickly my mum said the doors of the delivery room were still swinging.

DD1 was 8lbs 5oz, horrendous labour, almost c-section large episitomy.

DD2 was 9lbs 6oz, labour was actually enjoyable, only G&A and out in 7 mins, not a graze.

My sis DD1 was 6lb 13oz, horrendous labour, episiotomy and tears.

DS1 was 9lb 13oz, only G&A and out in 20 mins, not a graze.

Big babies much easier in my family!

Good luck! x

I've been concerned abt this baby being big (he's on chart for over 9lbs) and mw told me that larger babies, i.e. with more fat laid down, help stretch the birth canal and thus prevent tearing and so are easier to push out. Skinny, angular babies are more likely to get elbows or limbs caught a little and make you tear. She was very convincing though I'm not sure how much I should believe her. Smile. Last dc I tore not at all even though he was bigger than my first two, when I did need stitches.
