So proud of DD (there is hope!)

When the pandemic hit, DD's anxiety went through the roof and depression through the floor. She missed all of y11. As her worst she would hardly go outside even just for a walk around our pavements, and developed a massive fear of being near strangers or anything else 'unclean'.

This weekend she has been able to view a town jubilee celebration from the edge, go to a country fair for a short time, and today try clothes on in a shop - these are all massive steps forward. We are so proud.

Medication, therapy, time, and an awful lot of patience (and heartache).

Best wishes to any of you still going through the worst of it. Keep hoping.

Thank you. Next hurdle is Eng Lang paper 2 on Friday, her stamina still isn't great, she managed 90 mins for paper 1.

And yes, agree with pp, what a wonderful, supportive mum you are. ❤

Fantastic!!!!!! How inspiring! Huge congratulations.

Sonoio · 28/06/2022 13:06

What meds is she taking?

TeenPlusCat · 28/06/2022 13:10

She's on fluoxetine for the depression, propranolol for anxiety, and melatonin to aid sleep (as anxiety worse when tired then get into negative spiral). Hoping to reduce some over the summer.

So today, DD had her first meal outside of home/college for over 2 years.
Little steps, but positive ones.

Wow! That’s wonderful! Did she enjoy it, or just get through it? Either way, it’s great news. :-)

Jaq2 · 08/07/2022 21:59

Thank you for posting a positive message - just what I need right now. Much love to you and your family xx

changingroom · 08/07/2022 22:02

Amazing. Well done both of you.

So lovely to hear, having a child who had terrible anxiety/OCD over the Covid pandemic I know the joy of seeing them taking baby steps back towards a more normal day to day existence. He barely went out and now he’s never at home!

Sonoio · 09/07/2022 09:02

This is lovely.

TeenDivided · 09/07/2022 20:25

Today DD has come on holiday involving a ferry journey. Last year DH had to go on his own as DD couldn't cope with going away.

TeenPlusCat · 09/07/2022 20:35

Sorry, that other Teen is me, sans cat.

Great news Flowers

Sonoio · 10/07/2022 07:52

Apologies, I mean I am so happy for you!!!! No question mark. 🙂

TeenPlusCat · 12/08/2022 10:37

Another good news. Yesterday DD managed a family celebration event with 11 of us in a restaurant for 4 hours. She was a bit wobbly at first, and found the general noise stressful, and was exhausted afterwards, but kept it together well. On top of the 4hrs there was a 1hr40min drive each way to get there. (And the heat!)

She couldn't have done this 3 months ago.

Plus as from tomorrow we will be on half the dose of fluoxetine she was on in June, and she's had no propranolol for a month.

We may regress a bit when she returns to college, but she's so much better than a year ago, and unrecognisable from 2 years ago.

I hope this thread gives people hope that things can get better.

Aww that's brilliant, well done all of you. Thanks for the positive news, hope all goes well in September xx

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 12/08/2022 13:50

What wonderful achievements, you must be very proud x

TeenPlusCat · 17/09/2022 07:00

So, started a new year at college.
First week: Attended 1 day, missed one day.
Second week: Attended 3 days, missed 1 day.
Next week is only 3 days due to the funeral, so hopefully full attendance?

But:
She managed a full maths assessment (this time last year lasted about 5 mins before freaking out) and did well in it.
Yesterday we were passing her old school at chucking out time and she asked to go in. So I dropped her, and she found various of her favourite old teachers to chat to.

(She didn't pass her Eng though, sadly).
