Carers allowance wait time

Hello, I applied for carers allowance 3 weeks ago. Just wondering how long everyone else had to wait? I know it says 6 weeks but I'm worried it may be longer. Has anyone applied lately and can tell me the time they waited? Thank you

Hey I applied the end off may and still haven't heard anything! If you don't mind me asking did you get awarded in the end yet?

I've been waiting over 12 weeks I'm afraid and when I called I was told it could another 2 weeks plus 10 days for a letter and then further time for any money to go in. I'm sorry OP it sucks it really does. I'm also on week 12 for PIP - I'm finding it all incredibly stressful to be honest.

I waited around 13 weeks for it to be awarded.

Do you all work and had to send of payslips, a friend of mine doesn't work and she got awarded 3 weeks ago and only took nearly 3 weeks to do so I wonder if you work it makes a difference, I will be applying once I get this payslip to prove I'm under the threshold

I have sent off all my payslips but I haven't worked since August last year as I was off on maternity so they have had all my wage slips which state zeroo and my p60 just waiting for a response and finally my p45 as I'm unable to go back to work but they told me that was enough evidence

That's good then, hopefully not too much longer

I mean they don't have my p45 but hoping that don't make a difference as my old employer won't send it til this pay period

How did you send off your payslips as hasn't asked for mine but I have just filled in form online

I had an email after filling in online telling me to send them in and I posted them recorded delivery

If I remember rightly it should tell you in an email can't remember if it was on the same email or after sorry

So only had to wait 2 weeks and 2 days, had a phone call today from a decision maker to clarify my earnings going forward and he has awarded me carer allowance 🎉

I’m on week 10 still waiting, it’s been escalated last week but still nothing x

@MotherofWhippets81 just reading your posts, I’m 10 weeks into my careers claim but still haven’t heard anything. Have you been awarded yet hun? If so how long was you waiting x

I waited about six weeks but it was backdated

I also work. I used to post my wage slip to them but now I call them and give them the details. They do not have an email address. When you call they want your NI and the name and dob of the person you care for. They then take your net pay and deductions. The call seems to take ages but better than printing and paying postage.

@Sleeponit have you had a decision on your careers allowance if you don’t mind me asking, I’m on 10 weeks and nothing :-(
its been escalated too last week but still nothing.

@Tickletuesday im on 10 weeks currently. It’s been escalated last week. They have just told me it’s in a que.

I got awarded just over a week ago and only had to wait 2 weeks and 2 days, I work, I had a phone call from a decision maker to double check my earnings that was it I was awarded

Hey yes I have been awarded was awarded end of last month after waiting 8 weeks but I did get it escalated as well

27 weeks and counting for me, I’ve called numerous times, got my case flagged as urgent and had it escalated to management….and still nothing. No contact whatsoever. So I hope you get yours soon

Hi I applied for carers allowance after being on carers benefit for 2 years .. my carers allowance passed everything except the medical as the doctor did not give enough information,so I got another letter from her and sent it in along with a dairy of what I do each day and I asked for a review of my application.. I've asked how long this will take but none of them will give a time frame .does anyone have any idea

Hi @Jess19944 I know this is an old thread but I am in the exact position now as you were in at the time of your post. 10 weeks waiting and had it escalated last week. How long did it take you in the end to have your claim processed as I am at my wits end with it all.

Mine only gone two weeks that's why I was wondering how long a review takes they processed the application within a week everything was fine but the medical

Supported my sister to apply for carers allowance, who looks after elderly mother 24/7, application sent 21Nov 2024, to date no communication or sellement 14May 2025, phoned no answer, emailed no answer, nearly 5 months and no idea what status is. Very poor service
