Hi

I have applied for carers allowance , as I have been awarded DLA for my child. Does anyone know how long it takes to process the application ?

Glad I spotted this thread. I applied on Monday and had to send off payslips, p45 and pension statement.
I’ve only applied from Oct when I stopped working as just awarded DLA.
hoping it doesn’t take long for them to respond…

It took 3 weeks bar 1 day for mine come through . I sent my payslips special delivery, so I knew they received them

I’m getting worried that I haven’t heard anything I’m on week 3 of waiting to hear from
carers allowance. Getting paranoid maybe I put in the wrong bank details? I have nothing for them to check e.g payslips etc as I haven’t worked since my little boy was born 3 years ago and he gets high rate DLA. Any helpful advice? Thanks everyone.

Just give them a call. It didn't take long to get through. They told me I had been awarded , but couldn't tell
Me the back payment . It went into my back a couple of days later

I also applied on the 25th Nov so 2 weeks on sat I called this morning and its not been allocated a caseworker yet so just goto hang tight I guess... with christmas in 2 weeks and them being off for the holidays I can't see mine being processed until around Jan some time maybe.... let us know if and when you hear about your award 😊

Wow yours is already with a caseworker? I applied 13 November and when I phoned the lady was not budging and said 6 weeks no news. I hope they back date it to my sons DLA award date as I applied as soon as I found out we got DLA. i also just hope I get it soon…good luck to you too

Noooooo when I called they said its not been allocated a case worker lol yh I'm telling myself I'll hopefully have heard something around this time in Jan, I think with them being off over christmas and new year that will have a delay on it also... hopefully we hear something pretty soon 🙏

I applied 20/11. But had finished working so had to send in last payslip p45 and a pension contribution statement,
not heard anything- 3weeks now.
I hate calling though as they just go on about the 6weeks…. 😔

yes I feel the same I call and it’s like wait 6 weeks and christmas Is coming up so you know it will
be longer. People really need carers allowance quickly especially when not working or only working small hrs. Wish the wait was shorter.

I called for a update and its been awarded but only this morning a letter has been sent out but the system hasn't updated yet to show date its been awarded from or payment information so I'll wait on the letter today is day 16 since I applied for anyone waiting xxx

25th Nov I applied, I called back today to see if I asked for weekly or monthly payments and he said my payment is being issued on Wed and will be in my bank mon, from 18 sep then my normal weekly payment will start 25th Dec onwards xx

I’m on week 5 now of waiting - applied December 17th. I wonder why they are taking so long with some and others it’s done in a few days/weeks x

Hi. I applied for cares allowance on 18th December 2023. Nearly 6 weeks ago.
Phoned them up an hour ago. She said no decision has been made and that I should call back next week if I don't receive the award letter. 🙁

Hi everyone 👋🏼 I’m currently in similar situations, I applied for my sons dla back in July (22 weeks it took) so it would be nice for them to back date it then, I’m currently on week 4 of carers allowance claim so I phoned this morning and the lady on the phone just said it’s still processing (so I’m not sure what that means) and that it can take up to 6 weeks and that I’ll be notified with a letter or a phone call if they need anything it’s just a waiting game

Hi can I just ask was your spouse/partners income taken into account when you applied? I applied yesterday but does it matter that my partner is working and I'm not am I still entitled to it?

It's only the income of the applicant that is relevant not any partner.

They asked me for me and my partners statements from our savings account in the bank. Is it right that the first 50k isn't taken into account?

Savings are irrelevant for carers allowance. Also the income and or savings of the person being cared for is irrelevant.
