NannyL · 31/01/2007 08:48

i was wondering that too

Gingerbear · 31/01/2007 08:51

Sandwich generation - children of elderly parents.

I think I qualify as an elderly parent.

Gingerbear · 31/01/2007 08:52

'Those in their 30s or 40s with young children and aging parents'

peegeeweegee · 31/01/2007 09:44

I thought it was something to do with food - or with the uninspiring sandwiches placed in lunchboxes

Will go now...

WelshBoris · 31/01/2007 09:47

Why does it have its own section?

What about children of young mothers?

My mother is 43 and thinks she is a teenager, dancing round the living room to Scissor Sisters, thong appearing over her jeans, chatting up Turkish men in Flares.

Do I not deserve my own section?

Scootergirl · 31/01/2007 09:48

DH's dad asked for the Gnarls Barkley album for his 60th birthday!

elastamum · 31/01/2007 09:51

Im one of these, 80 year old infirm mother and two boys 7 and 6. Its not easy..{sad]

Flamesparrow · 31/01/2007 09:51

Oh, so it is those caring for parents and children?

Mumatuks · 31/01/2007 09:55

I thought it was about people like my inlaws, who were brought up on tinned food because of the war and have now discovered there is more to life than keeping the cupboard full of tins (my inlaws brought tinned spag bol!) i.e things like wrapped sandwiches.

So if it is people in their 30's -40's with young children and old parents, my DH fits that catergory. He'll be 40 this year, youngest DS is 2 months old and his parents are in their 70's. Does that count?

Flamesparrow · 31/01/2007 10:15

I think its if you are caring for the elderly parents iyswim... I dunno. A bit baffled in general...

misdee · 31/01/2007 10:18

is there a general carers section?

ledodgy · 31/01/2007 10:20

I think the umbrella topic should be carers section tbh.

Flamesparrow · 31/01/2007 10:24

That would make more sense...

foxtrot · 31/01/2007 10:26

Agree it should be a general carers thread, not specifically for those with elderly parents.

MamaMaiasaura · 31/01/2007 10:26

I thought this was for packed lunches

foxtrot · 31/01/2007 10:26

Caring for those other than your own children?

Pennies · 31/01/2007 10:31

Another vote for the pack lunches here. Was looking forward to lots of tasty fillings ideas...

TeeCee · 31/01/2007 10:32

What the chuffing hell is a sndwich generation?

People who grew up eating sarnies?

ledodgy · 31/01/2007 10:34

At first I thought it was a topic for middle children.

TeeCee · 31/01/2007 10:35

I mean I had a couple of ham and pickle rolls as a kid but does that mean I'm from the sandwich generation?

I'd say I was more of the British Bull Dog playing out on the street from breakfast till tea with my bike all day generation.

Can we have a section for that generation as well please.

ledodgy · 31/01/2007 10:38

Ok then I want a 'children traumatised because they had a Kermit the frog space hopper and not an orange one like everybody else' section then.

2Happy · 31/01/2007 10:42

In that case, ledodgy, I want a special section for "children who did have an orange space hopper but who were traumatised by their parents taking photos of them bouncing naked up the lawn on said orange space hoppers and who's parents still get the photos out even though their kids are now in their 30s!!"

TeeCee · 31/01/2007 10:45

And I want didn't have mousetrap or any good games other than Frustration and Buckaroo generation.

Or the my toys are so shit I'm going to tie a skipping rope to the banister and play pull myself up teh mountain game and throw pencils all over the hall floor and drag myself along on my stomach collecting firewood game generation.

TeeCee · 31/01/2007 10:46

How many sandwiches do you have had to have had a day to count as a sandwich generation kid?

ledodgy · 31/01/2007 10:46
