It wasn't ovarian, it was lymphoma

My original thread is nearly full, hence starting this one.

I knew I probably had cancer in late July 2025 but it took until the end of August to get a definitive diagnosis: Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma, Stage 4.

I have had six rounds of chemo, the last of which was on 12 December. Had a lot of nausea and vomiting, plus an infection which left me hospitalised on oxygen and IV antibiotics for a while. I am extremely weak now, and waiting to find out whether the cancer is still active. (A scan at the half way point showed it was.)

Obviously things will be very different in 2026 and go one of two ways, depending on the scan result, which I will find out on Friday 16th January.

But I wasn't paying attention. I mean, I didn't check the display on the pump to make sure they had set it for the right time. I shouldn't have to! I didn't notice that the bag was emptying too quickly until it beeped to say it was done. I did hear the conversation when both nurses confirmed that the timing was 120 minutes. I just assumed that the machine had therefore been set to 120 minutes.

I don't know whether any further action is being taken with the staff. Obviously as the doctor and trials team were called, it has been brought to lots of people's attention. I don't seem to have suffered any harm, but if it were a different substance, it could have serious consequences, so I assume some sort of disciplinary action would be appropriate, but I'm not going to pursue it myself.

I was back there for bloods this morning and it was mentioned again by the senior nurse (who had been out of the unit at a meeting when it happened.) Mentioned as in "How are you feeling today, no issues from yesterday?" kind of thing.

I’m so grateful you’re ok. That stuff can be so toxic and even more so at twice the rate. At least she called for help. She could have covered it up.

That’s awful Joy. So glad it appears no harm done. On an entirely trivial note, I collected my two cats from the cattery the other day. £10 per cat per night, for three nights. A calculator was used…

With Duty of Candour....I would expect as a minimum, apologies and also what steps they have taken/ are taking to find out why it happened and what they have done so far and are going to do future wise to reduce risk of it happening again.

Totally not your point, but that seems cheap for a cattery.

My favourite real life miscalculation is when someone sent figures saying:
Quarter 1: 100%
Quarter 2: 100%
Quarter 3: 100%
Quarter 4: 100%
Total for year: 400%

The nurses who set it up were on their lunch break when it finished so couldn't have covered it up.

The two nurses who had set it up did come to see me later in the afternoon to apologise. It wasn't clear whether they had been told to do so.

Anyway, on more cheerful things, I took the car out yesterday and it started first time. DH came with me and we went to Castle Hill. I wanted to go before the schools broke up as it will be much more difficult to drive up there and park now. The Tower is open today but I wouldn't be able to climb the steps anyway.

It was scorchio at "ground level" but the wind up there was so strong I was glad I took my coat. The strong wind meant that the birds were mostly hunkered down deep in the bushes but the Merlin app identified linnet, whitethroat and blackcap as well as more common ones whose songs I can recognise.

We just walked round the top of the earthworks (it was an iron age hill fort) as I didn't feel strong enough to go further.

When I had Pola-R-CHP last year, one of the infusions used to be started at a slow rate with obs every half hour. If the obs were ok, the rate would be increased. One time, my blood pressure had dropped so much that they couldn't increase the rate. So doing an infusion at double the recommended rate could be extremely dangerous.

It is great value actually, and a lovely place for my two elderly ladies ( continues off the point… ) 😀

The nearest pub is having a festival this weekend so I went over for a couple of hours. DH joined me for one, then left to watch the football, but some of my book club friends came along, so it was lovely. Unfortunately I got tired quickly, probably due to the heat, so I had to come home. It's not as if I were dancing to the music or anything.

I wore a hat (sun hat) and several people I know didn't recognise me, which was quite funny.

Not the best couple of days. We had a power cut for about six hours on Monday. The fridge/freezer hasn't worked since. We've tried turning it off and on again with various durations of "off" but it's definitely not working. DH has thrown all the food out.

We've ordered a new one but between starting and completing the ordering process, the earliest delivery date changed from Saturday to Sunday. The reason for the delay ordering was the cat suddenly being sick and us having to spend time shutting the cat away and cleaning up. The other one was sick earlier but DH dealt with that. They are moulting but we are brushing them frequently.

Plus earlier I had bad diarrhoea, (probably related to the fridge issue,) didn't make it to the loo in time so had a lot of cleaning up to do from that. And now I don't feel good. Just want a break.

Very weirdly Joy, my fridge freezer has been temperamental and on/off again too over the last 2/3 weeks - I thought it had completely given up last week, and was ready to buy another after having to chuck everything out, then it suddenly came back to life and seems to be keeping cool again! No idea what’s wrong with it! I’ll probably stock it back up properly, and it will then stop working again and everything will go off! Must be the time of year for temperamental fridges!

Fortunately no dodgy tum though!

It was much cooler here today and my tummy settled down again.
