Hi all,
So my it turns out that my DD has lumps on each of breasts. We went to see a consultant back in July of this year. The lump on the left which is now 28mm, has increased by 4mm from 24mm. This lump is pain and more so during the time of the month. The consultant said it's nothing to worry about as it seems like a Fibroadenoma after feeling the lump and doing an ultrasound. Consultant did advise that if the lumps grows or becomes more painful then to have it looked at. As mentioned, the lump has grown 4mm since then and pain has increased so we went to see a GP who managed to get us an appointment using to 2 week pathway.

DD had her biopsy just under 3 weeks ago in November. A voicemail was left on our phone which we only listened to today asking us to call back to make an urgent appointment. The word urgent has left me feeling distressed and as a parent I'm thinking the absolutely worst. Chances of breast cancer in a young teen is 1 in a million.....what if my DD is that 1......?

We managed to get an appointment for tomorrow to get the results.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation regardless of the outcome?

So in 3 weeks they didnt call you again even though is urgent and you havent noticed it yourself for 3 weeks?

bassmonsteruk · 10/12/2025 16:05

So the biopsy was taken just under 3 weeks ago and they mentioned that results can take between 2-3 weeks.

Oh mate, that sounds really tough. It would make any parent worry. Have you been able to call them back yet?

Nonamelass · 10/12/2025 16:20

I am so sorry that you are worried like this. As I’ve understood your post you got a message after the biopsy results which usually take about two weeks to come through maybe a bit more ( I’ve had three breast biopsies over the last 24 years or so) so I’d just ignore the imo unhelpful message from the first poster. By the time a dr gets them and looks at them you sound in the right time span. You’ll obviously know more tomorrow , well done on getting that appointment but this evening is going to be understandably stressful . Take a deep breath and try not to think the worst It’s extremely rare and could be all sorts of things that aren’t cancer or too serious but need treatment. Sending you a big warm handhold

I really don't know. I guess reassurance from someone who has been through very similar....

Don’t be so unkind. OP must be very worried and just looking for a chat.

I’m so sorry you’re in such a worrying position OP. How is your daughter feeling?

Thank you for your kind words. Means a lot. I know we have to wait until tomorrow. It's going to be the longest 24 hours of our lives I think as the appointment is exactly 24 hours away.

She's putting up a brave face. She's very mature for her age and hugged me from behind telling me not to worry that it's going to be OK. I said I'm fine, she's like, "not you're not, your voice has gone funny...." lol.

But I know she's worried, it's completely normal to be. She knows that the news can be anything.

I went through similar in March. The urgency may just be that the results of the biopsy were indeterminable which is what happened to me. The consultant thought that the lump was likely a fibroadenoma but because the result was undetermined their advice was to have it removed. After removal they tested again and it was a fibroadenoma.

Fibroadenoma are much less common in my age group (45+) and all the reading I did said they were much more common in under 25s so a likely profile for your daughter. I know it is very stressful but that 1 in a million is SO unlikely. Please keep remembering that. Fibroadenoma much more common and likely.

Good luck tomorrow and I hope your family has answers soon. My mum died of breast cancer when she was younger than I am
now and the waiting was the worst part of the process in March!

Mamabear0202 · 10/12/2025 16:50

Hi, I am also reasonably young (early 30’s) and was told the same thing; it looked like a fibroadenoma. I was told chances are was very rare and they were almost certain it was nothing but took a biopsy. Unfortunately I was in the 1/10 group where the results were cancer.

I received my diagnosis in Oct and I started chemo in Nov. I have been and seen my surgeon this week who said he is now unable to feel the lump at all (was 4cm lump) and that the chemo is working.

the only thing I can say is, whilst I hope ur DD is in the 9/10 group where they say it’s nothing, the reality is it might BE something. I tried to go in expecting the worst but still came as a massive shock and was very traumatising. What your daughter probably needs is calm support (really helped me). So although you might be distressed try and keep it together for her.

im telling you my journey as although its very early, they are confident the chemo is working. As your daughter is young, they would be able to give her a strong dose of chemo (like me) as our bodies can tolerate it more, which is also a good thing.

as scary as it is, and let me tell you, I’m terrified, I have a 12MO and a 3 YO, you need to stay strong and you will hopefully get through this. It sounds like it’s very slow growing and it’s been caught early (which was not the case for me).

I have my fingers crossed for you.

I totally understand. Any parent would be in a panic, but it could be anything and in the worst case scenario they will be on to it immediately all guns blazing. You could try ringing the macmillan support line to speak to a nurse if you feel you need to, I’ve found them really good. The main thing is getting through until the appointment tomorrow, hopefully your minds will be put at rest then.Ps full disclosure I had BC at 35 (alot older than your DD but still young,) the lump had been around a while too, and Îm talking to you now at the grand old age of 59 !!

cestlavielife · 10/12/2025 16:57

Stay calm and tell ypurself and dd whatever it is you will face it together. One step at a time.
You need to be strong and be there to support her. Write some questions regardless of diahnosis eg what happens next? Does she need surgery? How long is recovery? What support organisations are there? Is there anything like sports she should or should not do?

I had that was told fibroadenoma and eventually to take out just in case ( at age 35) like you I was unlucky and it actually was cancer , had all the chemo rads etc. I’m 59 now ;)

Well congrats and well done. I also need chemo radiation and surgery etc. I’m in the thick of it right now, chemos doing a bit of a number on me but im hopeful to get this GONE 💥

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 10/12/2025 21:22

In my experience breast cancer is not actually painful so unlikely that is what your DD has. It may is harder to get clear results on younger so it might be a they need to do biopsy again. Good luck for tomorrow. Xx

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 10/12/2025 21:23

Younger person that should be.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 10/12/2025 21:25

Also they generally contact you more quickly if it’s bad news so 3 weeks seems a good sign.

Really hope its nothing and with her age and that ultrasound there's a very good chance it will be. I was 48 when I got breast cancer but they could tell from feeling it, from the mammo, from the ultrasound, from the MRI, as well as the biopsy. The biopsy took a week to come back. They often call you in either way and urgent may just be as on urgent pathway. I would be scared though too but I would have thought the odds are very much in your favour. It might be something like they want to remove it anyway but see what they say.

openthewindoweveryday · 11/12/2025 08:55

Hoping you managed some sleep OP. Thinking of you today!

bassmonsteruk · 11/12/2025 19:12

Hi All,

Just got back from the hospital. We have bit of relief but not completely out of the woods. It turns out that the biopsy they carried out was inconclusive. The consultant said it's more than likely that its Fibroadenoma but there were some other bits where there pathologist was unsure. As a precaution, they have recommended to operate and take out the whole lump and some flesh around it. I did ask if both sides would be done but was told they're only going to take out the larger one as the other one is tiny in comparison.

They will then have the lump examined again by pathologist.
We're probably looking at the new year for the Op to take place. I'm praying that like @BadgerFace , it turns out to be Fibroadenoma.

I just want to say a massive thanks to the support here. It's an amazing place. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I think there's an excellent chance it will be benign if they are saying that, normally they are quite negative and can be blunt in what they tell you and they normally can see cancer. I am sorry you have a wait over Christmas and New Year for the operation and that your DD needs it. My operation was pretty much pain free, I was surprised but its fat there I guess. I would get some painkillers in though to have at home - I got discharged with no pain relief for my first op. In the million to one chance it is cancer at her age then sometimes that op is all they will do if caught early. It depends and is case by case. The best thing to do whilst waiting is distraction but can be hard.

Hi 😊
well done for making it through the last 24 hours of what must have been horrendous stress!!

I think it’s great that they are taking it out , it really is better to err on the side of caution otherwise you and your daughter would always have it at the back of your minds

The operation itself is quite easy ime so don’t worry too much about that ( I’ve had lumpectomies in each breast for my sins 😉)

Best wishes to you and your daughter.

bassmonsteruk · 11/12/2025 19:44

Thank you @Nonamelass . Stress was on another level. I'm hoping to have a proper nights sleep tonight.... :-)
