Blood test yesterday: Serum CA 125 level over 35 indicates possible cancer. Mine is 213. Shit.

DH knows and one friend but I don't want to worry anyone else until I know how bad it is; hence I've name changed for this post. I'd love to know how anyone else has coped / is coping.

CT scan Saturday and USS on Monday. GP has made 2ww gynae referral today.

Going private is something I've considered, but because I'm on the 2ww pathway, I didn't think there would be much advantage at this point. I just wish they would hurry up and give me an appointment date. I don't have a consultant's name (to ring the secretary) and in fact I don't even know which hospital, although probably Pinderfields.

My intention is to ask at the 2ww appointment what the treatment options are and whether it would be quicker going private. Luckily I can afford it, especially as I'm most likely having to curtail travel plans.

I was supposed to go to Kenya next week. Need to have a difficult conversation with my insurance company as I also have multiple other trips booked right through to next summer.

The ascites will be impacting your appetite and digestive system. They may well drain you prior to the operation.

Ohjoyohbliss · 07/08/2025 18:29

Just to add to the fun and games, I stopped taking my HRT last week in case it's causing or exacerbating the condition, so now I'm having hot flushes. A minor irritation compared with everything else but it adds to the general discomfort.

Still no CT scan results but at least now I've got my gynae appointment, which is next Tuesday.

That's great news. I think your CT results might go to the medic who is seeing you next Tuesday.

Edit to ask how you're feeling today

Awobabobob · 08/08/2025 12:56

Don’t jump to conclusions re “ascites”. Many women have a small about of free fluid in the pelvis and most of the time means nothing. Are you pre or post menopausal?

Fly1ngG1raffe · 08/08/2025 13:04

Did the report actually say you had ascites? Or some free fluid in the pelvis? They are different things, and are caused by different processes. Free fluid can be a normal finding, it can also be associated with a wide range of diseases.

jeanne16 · 08/08/2025 13:53

Ascites is not always malignant btw. I had the ascites drained and it got rid of the terrible pain I was in.

Icantfindanewname · 08/08/2025 17:01

@Ohjoyohbliss I had cancer treatment at pinderfields too (but breast, then it metastasized). If you need a random stranger to hand hold, I'm here. The teams are amazing, I'm so glad I chose to go there. There's an oncology booking line you can ask to be put through to from the switchboard, if that may help.

Thinking of you OP.

SunnyPrague · 08/08/2025 18:44

I’m pleased you’ve got your appointment on Tuesday. I hope you can have as ‘nice’ and ‘normal’ a weekend as it’s possible to have, given all of this.
Start a list of any and every question that pops into your head and take it with you in case your mind goes blank - you don’t want to kick yourself for missing the chance to ask the doctor questions while you’re in front of get.
Thinking of you and sending love x

My whole abdomen is distended and painful to the extent that I can't bear to wear any clothes with a waistband, even elasticated, even DH's joggers which are too big for me. The scan which found the "free fluid" was only of my pelvis, not abdomen. I'm not jumping to conclusions from the scan report, I'm jumping to conclusions from the swelling and pain that I am experiencing.

I am post-menopausal.

Free fluid and ascites are actually the same thing, the only difference is that it's called ascites when it's considered to be an abnormally high amount.

Supposed to be going to a wedding this afternoon. DH let the groom know that we might not make it, but I wanted to try. It's a hog roast rather than a formal meal so thought I might cope.

Didn't feel great this morning but took Buscopan and planned to eat something, take painkillers, have a shower and then see how I felt. Asked DH if he thought x dress might be OK, as it's more comfortable than what I had planned to wear. He just said "We're not going. You're not well enough. They understand."

Now I just feel miserable. I might not have managed it but would have liked to try.

Weight loss is now a stone.

It sounds like you have peritonitis.

Some symptoms match but I don't have fever, rapid heartbeat or urinary issues.

When my mum had these symptoms she had a hernia or gallstones and Primary peritoneal cancer.
The fluid for her was abdo and lungs it was the distended belly and vomiting that got her into A and E.

So now i do have rapid heartbeat but still no fever or urinary problems.

I'm in so much pain today that I rang 111 and they sent me to an out of hours GP. Not much use because he's only given me Lansoprazole, which can take several days to have an effect.

I'm a bit constipated so I'm not supposed to take codeine or buscopan, and paracetamol isn't helping. He thought there may be something other than gynae going on but agrees with the GP to have the gynae appointment on Tuesday and see where we go from there.

I'm following your thread mostly in silence. I feel every ache and symptom with you and I wish I could help. I wonder if you could take ibuprofen along with paracetemol, I think you can alternate doses every few hours. Might help. You can get the ibuprofen in suppository form to bypass the stomach, ask your pharmacist. Sorry you are so uncomfortable and really hope you get some relief very soon.

Jennywren8 · 10/08/2025 19:51

Sorry that you are going through this OP and hope the results are positive for you. I have terrible abdominal pain at the moment (and have had cancer previously) so do know, to some extent how you feel

When I tried ibuprofen a week or two ago, (which I normally tolerate ok,) I was sick. Now one of my many medications (can't remember which) says not to take ibuprofen or similar NSAIDs.
