Blood test yesterday: Serum CA 125 level over 35 indicates possible cancer. Mine is 213. Shit.

DH knows and one friend but I don't want to worry anyone else until I know how bad it is; hence I've name changed for this post. I'd love to know how anyone else has coped / is coping.

CT scan Saturday and USS on Monday. GP has made 2ww gynae referral today.

Oh @Ohjoyohbliss, I’m so very relieved that things are starting to move for you now and that you’ve finally got confirmation of what it is you’re dealing with and that treatment can start quickly. Wishing you the very best for the treatment and that it is successful for you. Sending you and your DH / family my very best wishes

Yachtingaroundtheworldiwish · 28/08/2025 19:34

Sending all the luck in the world, along with love and strength. I’ve been through cancer, so I know we find strength we didn’t know we had. 🍀🍀🍀❤️‍🩹

Moreteaandchocolate · 28/08/2025 19:35

Sending loads and loads of luck to you for tomorrow. What a relief to finally have a diagnosis and treatment plan with an optimistic outcome 🍀 🤗

Can anyone tell me what to expect from the CT Scan? I've never had one before and in my mind they are quite scary and you have to lie still for a long time. I imagine it will be very uncomfortable.

I know it's noisy. Sudden loud noises always make me jump. Will that be a problem?

Anaesthetist. Hugs xxx

Theyre not really that noisy (it's mris that are noisy). Scan is max 5mins. And maybe 5mins of the bed going back and forward whilst they line you up. Super quick, not painful. If you need contrast it can make you feel warm and like you've peed yourself, you haven't and they'll warn you of the sensation

Fingers crossed xx

Just read the whole thread. Wishing you all the best Joy. I hope that documenting on MN has been therapeutic for you. When I was going through cancer I found the MN cancer thread and absolute lifeline. Wonderful mutual support on there, day or night. I found it was was valuable to be able to be frank with strangers when you can't always be open with loved ones.

Ruminatingly · 28/08/2025 20:41

My dad had DBCL about 7 years ago. Diagnosed at stage 4. He's still doing well and no relapse.
My fil has had it this year, also diagnosed at stage 4, finished chemo 8 weeks ago, doing well.
Blood clots are very common with lymphoma, it makes the blood 'stickier'. Really hope your treatment goes well.

Will be thinking of you tomorrow Joy.
How outrageous about the morphine.

Sending a hand hold, prayers, love and hope that you beat the bastard into submission xxx

I had that! I needed a pelvic CT because of abnormal bleeding and was given the contrast. I was told about this odd side effect; it was so powerful I was sure I'd peed myself and was surprised to get off the bed and find I was perfectly dry. The scan itself was easy enough and not particularly noisy.

That's exactly right. I'm a long time MNetter but I name changed for this so I can put outing details on without it being linked with previous posts.

It's really good to get the advice and opinions of strangers and those who have walked a similar path. I don't have to hide my feelings on here whereas IRL I feel that I have to safeguard others' feelings to a certain extent.

Glad you have got some answers now and are just now getting onto the treatment. It is great that the treatment has prospect of success. You sound so clear minded through an immensely difficult and painful time too.

Day 1 on the road to recovery starts tomorrow - wishing you a speedy, non-eventful and as painless as possible journey. All the very best to you x

Thank you for this encouraging news. I already have a blood clot and am on blood thinning injections.

Mine is stage 4 also, but i understand that stage 4 lymphoma isn't necessarily as bad as stage 4 solid tumours, because the lymphatic system goes throughout the whole body.

@Ohjoyohbliss what a terrifying experience for you. The upside of a firm diagnosis is that you often (not always) have a strategy for dealing with it. The downside is that cancer is always a scary diagnosis, especially when it's the sort of aggressive monster that's moved in on you. However, it sounds as if modern medicine has the tools to kick it into touch. Wishing you the very best with your treatment.

I had a cry with DH earlier, but mainly he's been the more emotional of the two of us. (Normally the other way round. ) In some ways I think I'm quite numb with shock and maybe a bit of denial.

I've never knowingly had endometriosis or fibroids. I had an abdominal ultrasound to check my ovaries a year or two before Covid, so six or seven years ago, and all looked fine then.

Edited

Edited: have now read the thread. All the very best xx

On the consent form, I had to tick a box promising not to get pregnant during the course of chemo and for two years afterwards.

I'm post-menopausal.

I phoned 111 a couple of years ago when I’d just had miscarriage and was on the verge of haemorrhaging, and after I explained this she said ‘I’ve got to ask you some standard questions….no.1 - are you pregnant?’

Im so not confrontational but I had to say to her ‘did you actually just hear anything I said?’ Because I was genuinely worried I was talking to a brick wall.

I know it doesn’t help you much but I’ve been thinking of you constantly OP.

Oh, that's absolutely awful. Must have been so upsetting.

In my case, the specialist nurse and i had a bit of a giggle about it.

I had the scare almost 10 years ago. Turned out to be fibroids, but that was a tough couple of weeks until I got the test results.

Wanted to let you know I read your post and thinking of you. My friend put it perfectly. The challenge doesn’t start at diagnosis, it starts now with the wait…

My fingers and toes are crossed for you that this is the only challenge you face!

Salome61 · 28/08/2025 22:58

Good luck tomorrow, I hope you are comfortable x

Gymnopediegivesmethewillies · 28/08/2025 23:21

How weird the nurse couldn’t just say “Joy, are you okay for me to come through the curtain, I have your jab”. They’re not soundproofed FGS!

Wishing you the very best of luck tomorrow, I know the next few months will be horrible but I hope by Christmas things will really have turns a corner and 2026 will bring new beginnings x

Will be here any time you need to vent or chat.
