CCC members...do any of you visit the little certified sites?

We've been to a couple now both were CCC members only and very quiet. We've visited one 3 times this year and the latest one, which we stayed at Thursday night, we've booked into again in July. That one is 1/2 a mile from the sea on a farm with cottages. Slight road noise and the train track is near but isn't a problem and not through the night. Plus it's £5 pupn. Dss love the quiet ones. Don't get me wrong they aren't really quiet boys but they love the countrside and nature.

I was in two minds about joining CCC but am so glad I did. There are other sites I have in mind too for the future. We still like looking on UK campsite for places, especially ones behind a country pub for when it's just dp and me Although we have taken ds2 to one too when ds1 was somewhere else.

Am with you Curious, I love the little 5 unit sites.

Curiousmama · 06/06/2010 11:01

That's good serin Do you know why they limit it to 5? This place has a large field? I didn't like to ask.

The problem we've had is that there are 3 or 4 of us, all normal peeps with kids, and they won't let us book for weekends.
So we have to use the normal ones.

Curiousmama · 06/06/2010 11:30

QOD have you used the temporary holiday sites? The certified site I went to the other night is booked up for 4 weeks during July/August and open up another field. These events are listed on the members pages Out and about online.

We are caravan club not ccc so probably different?
All our friends who camp have caravans so we just joined that one - will have a looksy though - ta

Curiousmama · 06/06/2010 13:20

Ok caravan club may do a similar thing? It's great that your friends have caravans We tent camp but can see the appeal of a caravan.

Our absolute fave is a little Certified Site, and it is fabulous. We've already had to book up for next Whitsun (non school hols easier to get) but we don't mind as it is heaven.

OTOH we gave up with the main sites when we needed to acquire a larger tent and the CCC booking site couldn't cope; the advertoised alrger pitches are not generally available.

The site we like is ten pitches. Plenty of people book in groups though and I think that there are more differences between CCC and caravan club than you'd think, just from what I hear (no experience fo caravan club, am tent camper only)

Curiousmama · 06/06/2010 19:41

Glad you enjoy the sites SMA, love your name

Dp and I are camping on one for a night this Tue, we've been 3 times already this year. It's behind a pub, very big flat field, very very quiet and again £5 pupn. Takes caravans/motorhomes and tents. We took the boys one night and they loved it too. The pub grub is amazing as is the ale. It's a great night and no need for a taxi home. Bliss!

The one we go to cpsts more but there are proper clean family bathrooms with showers, fridges, a kettle and plugs, and the boys get to play with the farm dogs and watch teh sheep, chickens and horses; we also get campsires which is gorgeous.

Definitely oir fave site despite the posher ones we end up at with aprents in tow (eg Sandy Balls)

SanctiMoanyArse · 06/06/2010 19:45

(And of course I have to be loyal being as they amde my letter star letter in their5 mag this month )

Curiousmama · 06/06/2010 19:55

Well done Sounds idylic, where is it in the country? I'm NE England so probably too far?

OP posts:
SanctiMoanyArse · 06/06/2010 19:55

Pembrokeshire so probably (we're right in SE Wales so only about 2.5 hours)

Curiousmama · 06/06/2010 20:00

Yes way too far, sounds so lovely too.

OP posts:
geogteach · 06/06/2010 20:01

Do these sites have loos and showers? I always get confused looking at that part of the mag as loads seem to say you need your own sanitation and i'm not sure i'm up for that but we are tent campers and would like to try some smaller sites if there are facilities!

SanctiMoanyArse · 06/06/2010 20:04

Depends, one we use has better loos than our house LOL

sphil · 06/06/2010 20:05

We use these most of the time as they're much easier with DS2, who's autistic. No roads through the middle, hardly anyone else to disturb, usually loads of space. Have been to some lovely larger sites too, but these are our favourites

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 06/06/2010 20:09

These little sites are my favourite, I love them. Stayed in one the other weekend and we had the place to ourselves. Was a large clearing in the woods, laods of rabbits and owls. Only cost £3 for the night.

SanctiMoanyArse · 06/06/2010 20:09

Does help doesn't it Sphil? DS1 is so much happier on a smaller site and we can keep close track of ds3 whilst giving him (limited! as in we can see him)) space (and knowing the gates are closed and everyone knows us and him LOL... Whitsun is a regular crowd)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/06/2010 20:12

We did once - unfortunately we were crammed into a corner by a a hellish acting pair of families. They pitched far too close and were very very disruptive. Also far more pitched tents than we expected. We complained but got nothing more than 'we are investigating your complaint'

thatsnotmymonkey · 06/06/2010 20:19

Hiya,

My Dh and I love to camp in the UK, but only have been doing so for the last year or so, and so my question is this..what is CCC?!!

Curiousmama · 06/06/2010 20:21

That doesn't sound very CCC OYBBK Sounds like you had a bad deal there as usually they're far more civilised.

Agree re: safer for dcs, mine love the freedom. They even say they prefer camping to Disney world and mean it!

OP posts:
Curiousmama · 06/06/2010 20:22

It's Camping and Caravan club thatsnotmymonkey. Costs around £37 per year but well worth it. I may be slightly off with price? You get magazine regularly which is worth reading, Huge site book listing loads of sites and discounts.

OP posts:
Curiousmama · 06/06/2010 20:24

Here's my own website if anyone fancies joining, lots of mners on there I must admit haven't been on that much yet this year but I will do.

SanctiMoanyArse · 06/06/2010 20:24

CCC= caravan and camping club

Sphil if you ever fancy a new site email me and I'll let you have the details of where we go (am a bit protective of it LOL, loathe to publicise....)- I reckon you could do in 3.5 hours on a good day if that's not too far (though we have to stop off en route or ds3 and ds4 both have bad moments!)
