Help me find a camping table!!

We need a table. Me, dh and ds need to be able to sit round it to eat and it will double up as a playing table for lego and drawing too.
I've looked at slatted ones but not so good for drawing on and to be honest they seem really flimsy and I cannot have my gin and tonic in danger.

So - doesn't have to be huge but does need to be sturdy.

Does anyone have any recommendations!!

if your anywhere near Herts there is a big camping show on atm in codicate and they had loads of good tables, at great price

tootootired · 24/05/2010 18:38

We have a table with adjustable height legs that's turned out to be very useful - even levelled a sloping site once.

It was made by Quest, now discontinued I think but this is a bit similar.

overmydeadbody · 24/05/2010 18:40

I recommend you forget the table, use your laps, and keep the kids busy running around, rathe than lugging lego with you. Surely they can draw on a picnic rug leaning on a book? Or take a clip board?

overmydeadbody · 24/05/2010 18:40

lol at gin and tonic in danger, at least your priorities are right

kitbit · 24/05/2010 19:57

Oh shame we are not near Herts!

omdb I have surrendered to the knowledge that I am probably a glamper. I was given a good finger wagging by Slubber for considering fairy lights and I am currently resisting the impulse to make bunting. It's tough but I think I'm doing pretty well, I've walked past the cool retro fabric shop about 10 times now and have managed not to fall off the wagon.

However this brings me back to probably needing a table! Will also use it to chop food on and am going to use flimsy excuse of having a bad back for not wanting to balance chopping carrots on the back of my toothbrush

I bought this from Amazon last week but only paid £16.99 for it with free shipping. I suspect it was a mistake as the price has gone up this week.

fireandlife · 24/05/2010 21:13

I had the same problem last year. I needed a table that was sturdy, folded flat, didn't wobble and could be used for the children as well. Our pitch in France was on a steep slope and we were even able to make this level there. You can lower the table to be a mini children's one. It's the only solid one I could find. It cost loads but I also use it in the house as an extension to the dining room table and for sewing on. I am fed up of camping things that bend and wobble so as I replace things, I'm going for quality!

We bought this one last week; they are also selling them in store.
We bought it solely for camping but have used it several times in the garden for picnics etc and I am really impressed by it. It's lightweight, compact and really really sturdy. Only slight downside is I managed to trapmy hand in the mechanism while folding it but as long as you're not a clumsy oaf you'd be OK! I had already bought this one but took it back in exchange for the Tesco one.

We haven't used it while camping yet but are planning to do so next weekend so fingers crossed it holds up OK!

Slubberdegullion · 25/05/2010 11:51

rofl at you kitbit and your bunting desires.

We have no table but I suspect if we had any room left it would be the next thing on my list of things to look at. Currently we all have folding chairs and the dds have a highly crapola folding table which the love as it matches with their pink chairs [rolls eyes].

I covet slightly those tables that come with the matching padded benches. I think they look highly strudy and yet comfortable.

Slubberdegullion · 25/05/2010 11:52

not sure what strudy means, let alone highly strudy. Combo of sturdy and strudel maybe. everyone loves a good strudel.

Slubberdegullion · 25/05/2010 11:56

Like this. Am especially drawn to the padded nature of the seats.

kitbit · 25/05/2010 14:03

Am goggled eyed at the comfy benches. Strudy (solid with a hint of apple) yet still soft without breaking 'proper camping' rules. Nice.

Am also very much liking the lakeland one, I actually think that might be the one, thankyou! Didn't want it too big so that it can go inside the tent in bad weather and I can lean on it to sew bunting .... ahem

This one is good - I seen it in store at the weekend and it's really sturdy.

Available with or without the stools.

fireandlife · 25/05/2010 14:20

Slubber, aren't those benches just the lightes bit glamp? Or would they only be glamp if they were pretty?!

fireandlife · 25/05/2010 14:22

Sorry, slightest!

Slubberdegullion · 25/05/2010 14:28

I most certainly do not think it is glamp! If it were glamp the sensible navy blue covers would be exchanged for faux faded chintz horridness and there would be some sort of recepticle on the table for putting your moon orb lantern in or some such rubbish.

The lakeland one with the adjustable legs also pleases me greatly.

My arse would swing the vote for comfy benches though.

fireandlife · 25/05/2010 14:37

LOL at faux fade chintz...!

I'm a bit anti built in chair/table things because I think they are almost always a bit wobbly and have more potential to break. but the separate benches look very sensible. The only problem is that they can't double up as lean backable comfy wine/tea drinking chairs and that means more space to find in the car!

Not really sure why I'm discussing this as I'm very happy with my camping dining set up and have no intention of changing it!

Slubberdegullion · 25/05/2010 14:58

Indeed fire and life (re space issues) which is why if it comes to seriously chumfy (if slightly mouse eaten) foldable arm chair with head rest and beer cup holder vs a bench however well padded, I'm afraid the armchair (and eating on my knee) is going to win out.

Slubberdegullion · 25/05/2010 14:58

my buttocks are not cast in gold more's the pity.

FelicityMintcake · 25/05/2010 15:04

We have one similar to the one tootired has linked to and it's great. We can all sit round it and eat as a family and use it to prepare food.

Dc can use it for games etc if they need a table.

No slats - you are quite right - too risky re G&T's! I would not recommend a table with attached chairs. We had one once and it was terribly difficult to get in and out of.

notwavingjustironing · 25/05/2010 17:04

Slubber - was going to ask you for an update on your mousechewed chairs - were they salvagable in the end?

kitbit · 25/05/2010 17:17

That's guerilla glamping, that is. I'll have your tent covered in little triangular flags yet...

OP posts:
Slubberdegullion · 25/05/2010 17:58

I'll never bunt my tent. NEVER!

notwaving - yes the chairs are still perfectly servicable. They look a little sorry for themselves but they still work so dh has said no to replacements.

fireandlife · 25/05/2010 18:10

Now Slubber, you could put throws over the chairs to match Kitbit's cushion!

Slubberdegullion · 25/05/2010 18:17
