We shall not be camoing this year but dh has decided that now, when the sales are on, is the time to buy a tent.
By next year we will be a family of four, two adults and two children. We would like to get a 6 man tent.
Dh has spotted this bargain . I think it's less than that now.
Anyway, I thought I should ask Mumnsetters what they thought. I notice that the Colorado is rated most highly.
Is this a good deal? We are also going to have a squiz around Touchwoods this afternoon to see what's on offer.

I think that are great, and I am envious of the amount of living space that they give, but I'm slightly claustrophobic and realised when I saw them 'up' that I would have probelms sleeping in the pod. The advantage of the Colorado is that you can stand in a the bedrooms.
I just like seeing tents up anyway, I've turned into a sad tent spotter!

If you go to one of these you will come out with a bootful, CD - they are irresistible - bit like stationery stores and hardware...

CountessDracula · 01/08/2005 13:05

right next stupid q

What is the best colour for a tent? Remember an orange one when I was little where you would have to wear those aeroplane eyepatch things or risk being dazzled in the morning!

happymerryberries · 01/08/2005 13:06

If you want to buy on line

www.outdoormegastore.co.uk/

Atr good. Well priced and reliable.

TBH you don't need that much stuff at first, but it is great fun buying little gadgets!

Can you borrow someones rig first to see if it is your thing? Or try a tent holiday with a complany like Canva or Keycamp?

Janh · 01/08/2005 13:32

They are mostly v muted these days - blue/green/grey. (Except frame tents which still tend towards nice pastels and flowery curtains.)

AS well as WildDay, which Blu linked to, and hmb's friend Stan's megastore, there are

OMG, never seen one of these before - it looks as if it should be growing tomatoes.

happymerryberries · 01/08/2005 13:37

I have seen one like this 'up' and it was rather nice. i would have got one, but it on'y had two bedrooms

MrsDoolittle · 01/08/2005 14:57

But I never got any feedback on the Outwell Hartford.
I thought it was a lovely dome tent but I am getting the impression that the shape of it i.e. the pods coming off it may cause a problem.

It's quite a good idea to get one which is dark in the 'bedroom' areas - especially if you've got young children who wake at the crack of dawn!

happymerryberries · 01/08/2005 15:07

Mrs D I have seen the Harford up as well and it looks great. I have friends with that shape tent and they have never had probelms.

Some sites do have limits on sizes, but there are bigger tents than the Hartford out there

MrsDoolittle · 01/08/2005 15:16

Do you like this one?

OP posts:
happymerryberries · 01/08/2005 15:19

Looks good! That is a lot of tent for that price!

happymerryberries · 01/08/2005 15:20

pop over to Ukcampsite and see if anyone has used one for their views. they are very helpful people, and I'm sure someone will know about this tent

MrsDoolittle · 01/08/2005 15:24

This looks fab I really like this one actually. What's Wynnster like?

OP posts:
MrsDoolittle · 01/08/2005 15:25

A good 'name'. This is addictive isn't it!?

PrettyCandles · 01/08/2005 15:32

We bought a Wynnster Anglesey a few weeks ago and used it last weekend. The tent is certainly waterproof! It's a perfectly comfortable tent and not particularly tricky to put up, as long as one of the two people doing it is tall. But I wasn't hugely impressed by the design of the windows and doors. If the tent is wet then you have to be very careful opening windows and doors, even if it's stopped raining, because the water just pours down off the 'roof' and into the tent itself. Tents with windows that have a flap over them, that can be guyed out (like Vangos), or that open from the bottom, don't have that problem.

We've got some other Wynnster products, and, while the things seem good enough quality and the customer service is very friendly and helpful, I'm not hugely impressed by the company. All the products have mistakes in the instructions and they do not carry any guarantees.

MrsDoolittle · 01/08/2005 15:36

Can you change it PC?

PrettyCandles · 01/08/2005 15:38

Sorry, don't understand.
