Would you drive to Holland just to buy a cheaper tent??

I'm gutted (see earlier thread - as everyone ignores me I'm taking shotgun approach to getting sympathy votes ) as I can't order a bell tent through the internet, so I'm now considering a weekend trip to Holland to buy it there.

Would you? Have you?

It's a saving of around £100, so even if just braking even, it would pay for the weekend.

Some piccies up. be quick I'll be taking down the ones of dds plus dh sharpish.

Hey bramble, I've been eating that tasty soup all week too

Slubberdegullion · 30/03/2010 19:35

there's another anal one somewhere showing the tight ship I run and our immaculate beds

heads off to my photos...

MisSalLaneous · 30/03/2010 19:37

Oh Slubber, that is one beautiful tent! Will post more in sec, can take down again. Thanks!!!

slubber that tent is lovely. my friend has one like that that he used to camp in as a child. they last for ever.

Slubberdegullion · 30/03/2010 19:43

They do Bariatric, which is how I would have persuaded dh to to buy one had I not already gone out and bought one (the cabanon) and hidden it under our bed for a couple of months.

I know they are expensive but that is the cost of hiring one nice holiday cottage for a couple of weeks in cornwall in august.

cornall for 1 week vs lifetime of 4 season lovely tentage

BariatricObama · 30/03/2010 19:44

your wee girls are lovely too!

MisSalLaneous · 30/03/2010 19:45

I initially thought I wouldn't like a pyramid shape as I assumed it would feel cramped inside, but it looks brilliant. I love how you could make a little seating area under the side flap for your dds.

Maybe I should start a camping savings fund so that I can buy the ideal tent in a couple of years...

Nappyzone, that's a good idea, but unfortunately I don't really know anyone well enough to ask them such a big favour. I might ask around re location etc if I can't figure out the directions pretty soon.

Found the one of the bedroom.

Gods I am neat.

BariatricObama · 30/03/2010 19:52

'This was our first pitch so it's not as taut as I would like it' oh er missus

MisSalLaneous · 30/03/2010 19:52

"I know they are expensive but that is the cost of hiring one nice holiday cottage for a couple of weeks in cornwall in august."

That one works better once you've got school age children - thus far we've been lucky enough to avoid having to pay for school holidays, so the shock of August prices lays ahead...

I guess another good thing is that a good quality tent seems to holds it's value, so even if it is eventually sold, you'd get a decent price. Well, that's what it seems like when looking at second hand sales prices.

The side panels are extra, you can get one and switch it from side to side depending on the wind direction. I got both as I'm extravagant.

You should see millenium falcon's though. omg she has this zimmerflueil doohickey porch on the front that is to die for.

They are suprisingly tardis like inside.

Thanks Bariatric

Slubberdegullion · 30/03/2010 19:55

20 minute pitch, did I mention that?

man I am doing this sell fast as those bell tenters will be here any minute

BariatricObama · 30/03/2010 19:56

bell tents are nice but the pyramid says swallows and amazons and campfires to me.

MisSalLaneous · 30/03/2010 19:57

Oh yes, I see what you mean re slopey sides, it's really nice. Lovely colour too.

Impressed with the tidyness btw! Are you a little bit scary?? Had to laugh when I realised it's you with the descending order hanging pots!

Slubberdegullion · 30/03/2010 19:57

This is millenium falcon's

her rl photos are better

MisSalLaneous · 30/03/2010 20:01

That is nice! See here too. Drool.

Lol re fast sell. Nah, I'll have to be an honorary member of the appreciation society - no way I can afford this now, sadly. Nothing saying I can't want though...

dh home have to go and eat and talk to him

did I change your mind any Sal?

Slubberdegullion · 30/03/2010 20:03

yes yes, look at your link, you can see the curvy back side. drool indeed.

MisSalLaneous · 30/03/2010 20:06

Night, slubber, was lovely talking!

bramblebooks · 30/03/2010 20:10

Oh drooly drool at slubber's taut tent. Mine is a picture of shabby chic as I now use old patchwork quilts for layering and warmth.

The 4 yo daughter on the first page could do with some immac though, although healthy hirsuitness is a feature of the family

dips bread in soup. gazes longingly into tent infested future replete with the world's best longboard, roofrack and camping trailer.

bramblebooks · 30/03/2010 20:11

btw, I really like the way that the people in the millenium falcon are lying in such a geometrically organised pattern. We are more like chaos theory or some sort of mandelbrot pattern.

Fliight · 30/03/2010 20:33

Slubbers I actually love you. But your tent is even nicer.

how can that be

sorry about the rejected feelings you are experiencing right now.

mummyofexcitedprincesses · 30/03/2010 20:50

Is it one of these you are after?

here

MisSalLaneous · 30/03/2010 21:08

mummyofexcitedprincesses, that's a great price!

It's almost exactly what I'm looking for, except I'm hoping for a 4m one (16kg vs 25kg, and as I like smaller campsites, I'm already worried about the size).

Brilliant if anyone else reading considers a 5m one though. Thanks for link!

Final Sales Push

Sal here are the Cabanon pyramides which are somewhat more affordable than the De Waards, although still more spenith than the bell tents you are looking at.

We have the Guadeloupe which despite being a 4 man fits all 4 of us and our crap just fine (normal rule of thumb is to add 2 to the no of persons you are). The Barbados is her big sister. She is a 6 man with a dividing curtain in the bedroom if you want to split the back into two.

If you really want to fall down the hole of utter tentage geekyness check out on ukcs threads about tencate canvas, and canvas weights. Not all canvas is the same although canvas is always nicer to camp under than plastic

bramble ....shabby chic...disorganised sleeping positions..iirc you have fairy lights. Can this be true? Am I living next door but one to a GLAMPER!
This is almost as bad as the mice.

Fliight I love you too, and it's ok, my tent IS much nicer than me. I am comfortable with hearing that.
