Essentials- what are they?

Not having ben camping for a while I'm not much up on campsite camping (with children) so was wondering what people consider are the essentials?

My kind of camping always consisted of stove, pot, tent, sleeping bag, waterproof and boots etc. Now we are going in a car an dI understand it can be almost luxurious so what do I need/want?

Slubberdegullion · 27/03/2010 21:53

sorry x post

JetLi · 27/03/2010 21:56

Ahhh - the She Pee gets around the hygiene problem!

Slubberdegullion · 27/03/2010 22:00

I reckon with the She wee if you gave it a jolly good shake and then flushed it through with some water from your water bottle it would be ok.

It's not like you need it to be sterile or anything.

LadyBiscuit · 27/03/2010 22:00

This is what I have lots of. Like I said, I also have a shewee in a denim pouch. Actually I think I might have chucked it. These are the dogs' cojones.

Slubberdegullion · 27/03/2010 22:02

ROFL at this line from the shee pee site

Queues ? you?re caught in line but there?s nowhere to pee without losing your place and your mystique

MisSalLaneous · 27/03/2010 22:03

I thought I might just wipe it with a baby wipe and wash it later? Wee not actually dirty, and wipe would take care of moisture and, uhm, smell.

LadyBiscuit, obviously having used it you'll know, but looking at it, I'm afraid it would leak (or overflow?? )

MisSalLaneous · 27/03/2010 22:05

You'd have to have a, oh, I don't know, cloak or something if you're planning on using that in a line, not??

LadyBiscuit · 27/03/2010 22:05

Honestly it really doesn't leak or overflow - the flow just comes straight out the end. It really isn't hard to do - I used it first at a she-rinal at Glastonbury the other year and despite no practice I managed not to get any wee on me at all

JetLi · 27/03/2010 22:07

Babywipe sounds good MisSal - thank you. I think I shall invest. Am sick of trying to hover over a flimsy bucket whilst drunk. I don't have the thigh muscles for it.

MisSalLaneous · 27/03/2010 22:07

There is this whole world out there I know nothing of... A she-rinal?? Off to google.

MisSalLaneous · 27/03/2010 22:09

JetLi, disclaimer, that's just my idea. I've never actually used one. They look brilliant though and is very tempted to buy it and never mention to dh .

MisSalLaneous · 27/03/2010 22:11

From the She-Pee site: "After using it, it felt weird standing like a man and it confused a few people. I think it?s worth it just for the looks!! "

I'm as to where you would use it with an audience...

Slubberdegullion · 27/03/2010 22:12

mm am being won over by the folddownableness of the she pee

Slubberdegullion · 27/03/2010 22:13

That picture is just hilarious. Look at her peeing all casual like, one hand on hip.

I hope she has moved her pants over to one side.

Slubberdegullion · 27/03/2010 22:15

lolol

This idea was cemented in the minds of the Dutch when a Local talk show host, Paul de Leeuw, interviewed Moon and she demonstrated the She Pee (p-mate) live in front of the nation. From that point she was overwhelmed with publicity and interest and opened up her idea to all the women of the Netherlands.

this site just keeps on giving and giving

LadyBiscuit · 27/03/2010 22:18

They are ace - you can compete in weeing contests with men and everything. Ahem

Slubberdegullion · 27/03/2010 22:20

lol

and what exactly is a weeing contest?
[mother of girls]

thread strays off track again ...

LadyBiscuit · 27/03/2010 22:25

CAT me your address slubber and I will send you one then you and your DP can go down the end of the garden and you will see what I mean

Slubberdegullion · 27/03/2010 22:36

aw thank you LadyBiscuit. I don't have CAT I'm afraid.

I think I might ask dh to give me a pack for my birthday. Just to see the look on his face when I ask him. £3 is a bargain present.

LadyBiscuit · 27/03/2010 22:50

I think you should definitely

overmydeadbody · 28/03/2010 10:14

Slubber you really should!

I am surely tempted by the she-pee, its foldabiliy and simple cardboard design fits in with my minimalist requirements I think.

Thank you LadyBiscuit.

bronze · 28/03/2010 10:22

well thank you for that

some of it was helpful the rest was just hilarious

I'm not sure what kind of camper I am
I've not been with the children so have gone from a two man I can carry to an 8 man that doesnt quite fit on our lawn.

I think for now costs is whats going to hol dus back

a friends suggested taking some stuff in tub trug. I think like the bucket with a lid its multi use. I have seen pics or her bathing her kids in it

We had to go and but dd a sleeping bag yesterday and ended up getting ds3 a vango baby sleeping bag too. Very cute but not quite sure if it was worth us wasting money we dont have on

OP posts:
overmydeadbody · 28/03/2010 10:26

lol bronze, baby sleeping bags are sooo cute though aren't they!

Take a tug trug ythingy, it will be useful.

The good thing about things like baby sleeping bags is they can be very easily sold on on ebay once you don't need them anymore. So it's not really a waste of money.

bronze · 28/03/2010 10:28

and is now the time to admit I had a crap in
wistmans wood? (the druids will strike me down)
