I also do this.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 21/03/2010 20:20

What a fetching picture you paint, Slubber

QuintessentialShadows · 21/03/2010 20:20

doormat???

doormat??? for camping?

You bring a doormat????

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 21/03/2010 20:21

I have to say thought that being worried abguot the grass under your doormat when you've got your tent there is a bit futile...

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 21/03/2010 20:22

I have a doormat too, quint.

A 80p Ikea job, but nevertheless, a doormat.

QuintessentialShadows · 21/03/2010 20:24

Never thought of bringing a doormat.

My biggest concern is whether I shall run barefeet.

PandaG · 21/03/2010 20:24

yep I do - again only because it came in the ebay job lot, but it is useful, for scrubbing mud off the shoes.

I am not a minimalist camper in any way, shape or form! We have an Outwell Hartford XXL for weeklong trips, and the L for weekends. Takes us about 45/50 mins to pitch the big one, and another hour or so to sort the stuff inside. However, it means I am comfortable and happy!

Slubberdegullion · 21/03/2010 20:28

QS my doormat live in the boot of the car the year round. It's no great shakes packing it.

Mary, yes I try not to think about the yellowing grass under my SIG. It upsets me slightly. The holes in the doormat are my minor contribution to grass health. Every Little Helps.

Come to think of it. We DO have a doormat for the campervan. But never take one when we go tenting.

QS, I have found that if camping in wetter climes (think North Wales) and for a week+ the bit of grass by the door of the tent turns into a bit of a quagmire. Doormat prevents this

dearprudence · 21/03/2010 20:34

Going for a wee in the toilet block?? What's wrong with the bit of grass behind the tent?

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 21/03/2010 20:35

In light of that, is now a good time to mention that we take two doormats so one can dry out whilst we use the other.

Slubberdegullion · 21/03/2010 20:37

LOL @ TwoMatsMary

And then, if you are hit by torrential rain in warmer climes, the doormat makes NO difference. We had such bad weather in Poland this summer, the campervan nearly electrocuted me!

One reason I refused outright to go wintercamping in the snow. I am a good weather, no downpour kind of camping gal!

Slubberdegullion · 21/03/2010 20:40

I would love to camp in warmer clime torrential rains

omg at electrocuting camper van (I didn't know you had a camper van btw)

We bought a coach build this summer (diy import from Germany), after we sold our ford transit autosleeper conversion prior to the move overseas.

Slubberdegullion · 21/03/2010 20:56

How lovely , although maybe not so much if it nearly killed you.

OP posts:
QuintessentialShadows · 21/03/2010 21:01

oh, I prefer to think of it as the weather nearly killing me!

bramblebooks · 21/03/2010 21:35

I also do this. I have a special camping doormat for them.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 21/03/2010 21:41

Yes, we have a row a neatly lined up crocs on our outwell doormt facing out of the tent (they are all in the porch).

Slubberdegullion · 21/03/2010 21:45

heh heh heh

We are all at it.

I love a tidy line of doormatted outfacing crocs.

ours sit on the breathable groundsheet under the canopy... no yellowing here of the grass.
