WARNING: camping sucks

it has come to my attention that more people than ever are planning camping holidays as the recession starts to bite. holidays in britain are all the rage, so i hear. i have also noticed the proliferation of camping threads the moment the sun shows its face.

i would like to point out that camping is horrible. cold, uncomfortable, full of creepy crawlies, tents fall down in the wind (if you can get them up in the first place without commencing divorce proceedings), campsites are full of noisy yobs who don't keep their dogs under control and if they aren't rowing all night they're singing or playing didgeridoos.

i would especially like to point out that the gower is quite possibly the worst place in the world to camp. all the sites are sloping and lumpy and prone to flooding and possibly monsoon damage, especially on bank holiday weekends.

save yourself finding out the hard way, just take my word for it, you really wouldn't like it.

i thank your for your attention

Its not that bad I've had some fantastic camping holidays... I'll give you its cold though...plenty of wine helps

LoveMyGirls · 22/02/2009 18:53

I went camping twice in the summer and have to agree ALTHOUGH I will say it was value for money and we did pull together as a family and little things brought us pleasure.

Not going this year though.

And if the DCs play a ball game, there's always some child-hating fecker telling them to 'mind my caravan and go back inside and play on your Nintendos.'

Are you trying to keep that area for yourself??

seb1 · 22/02/2009 18:56

Is that mileniwmffalcon's tent I see perched on yonder Gower campsite, while she prays outside that nobody will join her

thumbwitch · 22/02/2009 18:57

pmsl - DH has just been saying, about an hour ago, that when we get to Australia we must go camping - the weather might be better (no guarantee) but the creepy crawlies are a whole new level of worse!

mileniwmffalcon · 22/02/2009 18:57

yay for seeing the light lovemygirls, it's my mission to save as many people as possible from clogging up my favourite secret campsites camping misery this year

milen - I am so with you on this.

Last time I camped, I was just dozing off when a teenager rode his bike into the side of our tent. Right where my head was.

Car alarms went off all night, you had to walk to the loo in your wellies in the dark, it rained and rained and rained.

God it was awful. Never again.

mileniwmffalcon · 22/02/2009 18:58

ah camping in designated areas such as he camps may just about be acceptable riven

AND there's a constant stream of cars going in and out, so if they do manage a game they have to keep interrupting it to let the cars go past.

And you have to join in all their games because none of the other kids mix.

Then when a couple of others eventually join in, their parents call them away to go out for the day.

Now I'm confused - I genuinely hate camping, so didn't recognise the double speak.

mileniwmffalcon · 22/02/2009 19:01

i hear they're reintroducing wolves in some parts of wales. you can never be too careful.

We used to go on camping trips when we were kids (camper van was involved in fairness). The last trip was probably 25 years ago. My mum is still in recovery.

Mil - the only reason we're not going this year is because pil are paying for us and dc's to go abroad (seperatly though, we're going on our honeymoon, dc's are going with pil) so next year we will probably be camping and I have to say I am not looking forward to it but dp loves it and I like to make dd's happy so I'll have to remember to pack a smile for the days when it's pouring down and we have no dry clothes, oh the joy!

PeachyMeBananaYou · 22/02/2009 19:09

SallYS are you booking your Gower trip again then LOL

mileniwmffalcon · 22/02/2009 19:22
