stowford manor farm

located near bath and near farleigh hungerfird castle and not to far from longleat either

beutful site, with amazing facilities (granite work surfaces etc)

the showers would be big enough to shower children

and the cream teas in the farmhouse are to die for.

there is nothing on the site except 2 showers, 3 loos, 3 wash basins and 2 washing up sinks, and unpasturised milk for sale on the tea shop but its lovely.

there is a ford running through and a river, we went at a time when there was a severe weather warning, and the river was flowing fast and would not be great for small children incase they fell in!

East Fleet in Dorset.

We had a lovely pitch, which helped.

DS loved the playground.

There was a proper farm.

And we could go for a walk along the water.

Just a really nice atmosphere there.

Nannyl: We tried to take a group to Stowford Manor last year. Luckily we visited first (went to pay deposit) and found out they had put us in the front field - which edges directly onto a main road! We explained we had toddlers & small children & could we go in the (very nice) back field with river etc and they refused! Even though we were booking months in advance.

We cancelled!

Peachy · 05/02/2009 17:13

East Fleet is lovely yes, went there last year- DH's favourite site.

Broadway House in Cheddar is wonderful and has a nice (to understate it) play area; but my favourites are complete opposites to each other- the Caravan and Camping Site in Cardigan Bay (tiny but adorable) and Sandy Balls- as long as you take a hardstanding pitch.

Oh and Horner Wood. And Christchurch (our most frewuented site as quite close)- both Forest Holidays.

Peachy · 05/02/2009 17:17

HAve e-mailed Stowford farm, as close to us (ish). Looks nice on website.

Lucycat · 05/02/2009 17:19

Dornafield in devon - just read some of the reviews on ukcamping to tell you why.

gorgeous toilet blocks! and trees in an orchard.

ahhh

nannyL · 05/02/2009 19:26

milliways

we stayed in the (very nice) back field away from the road.

they were very nice to us... 8 adults and 4 tents!

Milliways · 05/02/2009 20:18

Yes, it looked a nice site but when we visited (out of season) the road was extremely busy & noisy & we would be open to view, just couldn't take the risk.

Owners got quite shirty with us! We were about 10 tents though with 60 people!

We are going to visit This site soon and see if we can book the whole place one weekend!

Otherwise we go back here which is VERY basic but absolutely fab - just read the reviews.

Peachy · 05/02/2009 20:22

If you're in the Gloucesteshire ish area try the Cheddar one here, the Paddock pitches are great for 2 tents at a time if going with friends- there's several of those.

duckyfuzz · 05/02/2009 20:30

I liked East Fleet as a site but...we went in august, it was heaving, noisy, full of groups and we hated it - says more about us than the site I think can anyone recommend nice quiet sites?!

SweetEm · 05/02/2009 20:31

South Penquite farm in Cornwall (nr Bodmin) www.southpenquite.co.uk/camping.html

eco friendly, showers, laundry, freezer for ice packs, trampoline and lets you have camp fires

Milliways · 05/02/2009 20:32

Blackberry Wood? Very quiet & isolated pitches

SweetEm · 05/02/2009 20:37

Middle Woodbatch Farm near Bishop's Castle in Shropshire is good if you like somewhere quiet - it has only 10 pitches.

Great views, good shower facilities for showering with children, fridge, microwave, loads of animals for dcs to look at

WilyWombat · 05/02/2009 20:41

this site is quite useful for all things camping including site review

Doozle · 05/02/2009 20:46

Blackberry Wood is brilliant but you have to book a year in advance and be quick off the mark when they put the availability up.

nannyL · 05/02/2009 21:06

wow blackberry wood is already fully booked for every weeekend from april to the beginning of october

Sazlocks · 05/02/2009 21:16

please don't tell anyone but www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=4875 is our very favourite site in the world. Can't wait to get back there in April when it reopens.

Sazlocks · 05/02/2009 21:18

and why ? because it overlooks stunning beaches where we have seen dolphins and seals, amazing sunsets, rockpools for exploring, you can have fires on your pitch, clean toilets and showers, friendly owners and a short drive away from lovely mid wales beaches and resorts...........

brightwell · 05/02/2009 21:34

Another vote for Britchcombe farm.....very basic, very cheap, very informal & best of all...close to home which means we can be there by and have a campfire on the go by6pm on a Friday and we don't leave until after a cream tea late on the Sunday afternoon.

Milliways · 05/02/2009 21:41

Marcella, the owner, closed a field to everyone else on a Bank Holiday Weekend until we had staked out enough room for our huge party!

We are welcomed regulars there now

littlemisschatalot · 08/02/2009 18:48
