Meant to be going to Hawes, Yorkshire Dales tomorrow but the weather isn't looking good .

It's the first time we're taking ds (2.4).

Should we still go do you reckon?

Go for it -it's lovely up there & it might brighten up. If not loads to do/see. There's the cheese factory -Wallace & Gromit (but it might beclosed mondays so just check) & a rope making factory/shop with lots of whizzy machines to watch! I know your DS is young but he'll enjoy watching things. There's also a museum at the station I think.

Are you just going for the day?

No, I wouldn't - camping in cold wet weather is bad enough without a 2-year-old along!

I don't think the forecast is much better anywhere else either...

Mind you it won't be raining all the time, there's a small dry window about Tuesday

Phoenix · 01/06/2008 12:41

We were planning 4 nights .

It'll be an experience anyway! Your ds will probably love it. You on the ther hand will want to commit murder.

Slubberdegullion · 01/06/2008 13:18

hmmmm 2.4 is a bit tricky for in-tent entertainment.

Hawes is lovely though.

Met Check doesn't look too bad tbh

tiredemma · 01/06/2008 13:20

I wouldnt- we went last weekend with bad weather and I swear never to do it again.

horrendous experience, I thought we were going to blow away, people on the next field to us actually did blow away in the night.

Slubberdegullion · 01/06/2008 13:23

The people blew away emma? Holy Shit, were you camping in a tornado?

bet that was exciting though.

Phoenix · 01/06/2008 13:24

See Slubber that's the thing, the forecast's keep changing everytime we look. Dh went on MetCheck this morning and it didn't say what your link says now.

Can a 5 day forecast be trusted?

OP posts:
Slubberdegullion · 01/06/2008 13:26

well, not sure the end of the 5 day forecast can be entirely accurate, but for the first few days it's probably pretty good.

Mild kick off on ukcs last week re which is better Met Check or Met office. met Check came out strongly.

I love ukcs that people can get so terribly cross and frothy over weather forecast sites.

WendyWeber · 01/06/2008 13:32

That's the exciting thing about living in a small country surrounded by sea, phoenix - you never can tell!

I've looked at the BBC and at netweather and they don't agree either (but lean towards wetter than metcheck)

But now netweather has changed since the last time I looked at it! Mon afternoon now looks dry, also Tue afternoon through to Wed lunchtime, Wed afternoon only slightly wet, & most of Thurs dry.

(I still don't trust them when the weather is so changeable though)

Slubberdegullion · 01/06/2008 13:40

WW are you having a go at my Met Check link are you?

Do you wnat to take this outside?

Slubberdegullion · 01/06/2008 13:45

my clouds MOVE

Phoenix · 01/06/2008 14:03

Well i've just been out and filled the car up with diesel and we're pretty much decided we are gonna go tomorrow

We've got a portable dvd player with Balamory, teletubbies, in the night garden, postman pat, tweenies, numberjacks, bob the builder and thomas the tank engine dvd's so they should keep ds quiet for a few hours

OP posts:
WendyWeber · 01/06/2008 14:04

Yours make me dizzy

WendyWeber · 01/06/2008 14:05

Good for you - hope it does turn out dry after all - do let us know how you get on!

(Most important thing is keeping warm at night, so lots of padding under sleeping bags + socks + jumpers )

Phoenix · 01/06/2008 14:11

Yep we've got fleece blankets, sleeping bags and socks. Ds has a ready bed plus some extra blankets, a fleece sleepsuit and his hat is ready to be packed

OP posts:
Lucycat · 01/06/2008 14:14

I'd also go for cropped trousers / long shorts - stops them dragging in the mud

Slubberdegullion · 01/06/2008 14:17

Well done Pheonix, that's the everest spirit.

Lucycat · 01/06/2008 14:18

mmm how often is Hawes compared to scaling Everest?

Spidermama · 01/06/2008 14:22

I wish we had turned back. We've just been to the so called Sunrise Celebration festival in Somerset. It was cancelled but sadly we were allowed in before they made that decision. We had about an hour or two of dry weather to pitch the tents, then the thunder storms began and I sat with all the kids in the tents for about four hours.

When we finally emerged and went seeking warm food in the festival area, we found it was closed because of waist high standing water (and mud of course.)

Very disappointed. It was the shittest holiday imaginable.

We had a consolation night in a posh hotel in the New Forest on route home. I will now spend the next couple of days trying to remove the stench of muddy camping from all our equpment and clothes.

Sorry to be negative, but I thought it best to give another aspect.

Lucycat · 01/06/2008 14:23

oh no Spidermama how horrible
