For a family of 5?

I have a mate that can get me a really REALLY good deal on quality tents.

What layout? Bedrooms? Size? Other things to think about?

Was thinking about Khyam but there just seems so many tents out there I just dont know?

And I'd buy a cottage overlooking the sea

pinkyminky · 17/04/2008 15:32

Californian beach house, and a private beach

dustystar · 17/04/2008 15:39

I love the Outwell Norfolk Lake or Wolf lake but if money were no object then one of the new posh cabanon tunnels

Peachy · 17/04/2008 17:08

saw a rather nice vango nile 800 at the camping store today as well

but you'd need cash for that, as it would need a double size pitch I think

Lucycat · 17/04/2008 17:23

Hang on Peachy- you have a 2 week old baby and you were at a camping store .....much respec'!

is the Vango Nile like the old Vail?

Peachy · 17/04/2008 17:37

yes but with added pods on the sides- its a kinda tunnel geodesic hybrid i guess, a 5 bedroomer . i like the way vango have those zippable front prches / doors

Slubberdegullion · 17/04/2008 17:39

Hey, if I had a beautiful new ds like Peachy I'd be out everyday showing him off . Have you seen the piccie of him, awwwwww

And of course Peachy is just starting the tent indoctrination education early

Peachy · 17/04/2008 17:46

we were buying a nitestar baby

and actually we do get mobbed a lot with him lol.......

So just to clarify - a yurt/hotel/beachhouse/cottage are definate no nos.

Outwell or Vango look like the go.

I want one that isnt going to take a weekend to put up, doesnt weigh a tonne and has at least room for 6, a min head height of 180 in both bedroom and living area. sewn in ground sheet, large living area and a sep wet to dry are for boots and prams.

Come on - can we really nail this down, and no - I dont think i want carpet.

VBACqueen - I am taking you camping soon - you will love it - i promise!!

Khyam quick erect with annexe then- does weigh (all decent tents do at that size tbh) but perfect for every other specification you made- annexe for pran.

Or any decent tunnel (Outwell, or like us Khyam Ontario) with porch extension- we use our porch for a table / cooker etc, would suit pram as well.

Slubberdegullion · 18/04/2008 15:46

Khyam Windsor. is this the one you mean Peachy?

Looks mahooooosive

Camping Magazine gave it 8/10

Peachy · 18/04/2008 16:21

Mine's an Ontario, Dh suggested perhaps the Yale for 6 people (ours is 8 man), but there is a huge range this year

Peachy · 18/04/2008 16:22

(most khyams come without a porch, but you can get a zip uppable one now toa dd on for £50)

Peachy · 18/04/2008 18:09

this is the one dh wants, with the annexe for size

pinkyminky · 18/04/2008 23:02

Vango Zambezi
Has steel pole so quite heavy, our aspen takes about 45 mins to pitch. Very stable, no flapping/bending like you get with a tunnel.

sarahsixtoes · 20/04/2008 23:15

My cousin has a Khyam similar to the one Slubber has linked and she went camping and there were gales and storms. Most of the other tents on the site collapsed but hers was still standing strong! Khyams are excellent tents worth spending money on them.

misselizabethbennett · 20/04/2008 23:34

We have a Khyam rigi-dome with 2 bedrooms each side. It's really easy to put up - goes up in about half an hour. Bedrooms are dead easy to click in place, etc.

The living area is a good height (dh is 6'4")but the bedrooms aren't that tall. Still a great tent though. One teensy niggle - not enough windows!

Money no object? Massive Hymer RV!

We still use a Cabanon Espace once a year - massive frame tent with bedrooms you can stand up in and a living area big enough for dinner parties in really bad weather. (We're not minted btw - got it on insurance when an ex-Eurocamp tent got wrecked in a storm). I totally love it, but it does take about 2 hours to get the whole thing set up.

pinkyminky · 20/04/2008 23:54

Or is this more your stlye?

pinkyminky · 20/04/2008 23:55

style

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 21/04/2008 10:01

agree about the wind and khyams

ours suffered a bit last year but to qualify it we were in a tornado and beach side- around us the only other one that survived was a coleman (the one that looks like an aardvark)- outwells flattened!
