Just wondering if anyone has bought anything new for the new camping season?

Not that I'm on the look out for new gadgets to buy...Grin

We’ve been given a tent carpet and I am very excited 😆

Seems reasonable.

I have camping envy. We go on the motorbike so everything has to fit in a sailing bag, I do need a blow up pillow though, any recommendations? Small and light is key

We do too, well we went once just before Covid... It's amazing what you can get on there - although we have a bike each. We managed to get little camping chairs & table, inflatable sleeping mattresses and pillows, sleeping bag, stove and pans etc. and a good sized tent.

We're going again in a couple of weeks so any tips appreciated. My only one was, you can buy a bag of ice when you get there and use a top box as a cool box for bacon and Prosecco :)

@Magicmagician I offered my new personal tent (bought 2 years ago but only been used twice as DH won't camp) to have 1 large enough for all girl cubs together - other leaders were both mocking and jealous at the same time of a carpet. Which they figured had to be used for the girls 🤣 as a luxury! (I wanted the footprint for it and getting the " everything included" package was less than €10 more than buying tent and footprint separately so I got the package).

I go off in my van, so I can cram in loads of home comforts, and I erect a gazebo over the back doors. I've just bought this mat for the floor:

I got some lovely vintage floral melamine plates from eBay, I have my plastic skull wineglasses from B & M's Halloween section and my bright red enamel teapot and mugs.
I bought some solar fairy lights too, cheaper than chips.

I remain sceptical about air tents. Expensive for the life of a polyester tent (the fabric deteriorates in UV light, they don’t last forever), I have never found poled tents difficult or time consuming to put up, and I need to pack economically. Some of those air tents would leave no space in my modest car for anything else. And to get the best out of an air tent you need a good electric pump. I tend to go to basic off grid sites, many of which don’t allow you to take your car to your pitch.

I think it depends what suits your camping style.

Me too. All of what you've said, plus a burst/punctured beam has the potential to be a trip-ender. I've seen it happen twice. The first time, the owners hadn't brought any spares, and the second time it turned out the 'spare' wasn't the right one for the tent. There is no temporary fix for a burst beam. Meanwhile, we've had pole snap a number of times over the years. More minor splits have been successfully held together with a generous wrapping of Duck tape, and the particularly bad break we suffered limped through the rest of the trip with an offcut of steel pipe used as a splint across the break (held in place with yet more Duck tape).

@SkankingWombat our Air tent came with a repair kit.
