Two babies, one tent?

Can it be done? How?

It depends on a lot! How big is the tent? How many rooms? How many adults?

Couldhavebeenme2 · 12/05/2021 06:21

For the love of God, no! I will never, ever forget the Withernsea summer of 2012 where our neighbours had an un-weaned baby and young toddler. Nobody on the whole site slept for a week.

It's perfectly possible. You're going to have to give a few more details about what problem you are envisaging. Do you actually have two babies or is one a toddler? Do they sleep ok at night or are you worried about them waking each other (and the whole site) up. Do you have two adults? if not toilet trips in the middle of the night might be an issue. Personally I think tents with one big sleeeping area are best at that age. When we had a tent with separate double sleeping areas, we had a parent and child in each pod so they could deal with any wakings easily.

Napssszzz · 13/05/2021 11:29

Ah. Haha they're good sleepers we don't intend the trip to be a nightmare for everyone. There would be six of us altogether. Two adults, two older children who can look after themselves and the two babies (although they are both weaned and walking, but not yet potty trained aged one and two).

We used to all camp in a humongous tent with separate bedrooms, which is great, but this year cba to put that thing up for just a night or two.
So we were thinking of a small blackout popup tent each for the elder two, one for us adults, and one for the babies, seeing as they share a room at home too. But of course we don't want them climbing over each other and hurting each other in the night - safety first... So there would be a need to create separate sleeping areas for each of them, as well as a way of stopping the two year old from unzipping the door. Is there anything else you think we'd need to consider?

I was thinking pop up travel cots, like mini tents inside a tent. Has anyone done this and have recommendations for something relatively inexpensive?

Camping with babies is lovely - lots of fresh air and things to see! We did a few trips to a farm campsite so they could see the animals.
Two years between ours so we took one travel cot and a toddler bed. The tent was a large family tent that we could stand up in.

Personally, I'd put one adult in with each baby so that they can deal with night-time wakings and to prevent potential escapes.

If you are taking four tents, watch out for charges, some campsites will bill you for four tents even if you take up less space than one jumbo tent.

Napssszzz · 13/05/2021 16:09

Ugh yes good point about charges.

Much as i love my children there is no way that sharing sleeping space with either of them is holiday worthy

Do NOT put your babies on their own op.

I've taken my kids camping since they were 3 and 5, and thoroughly enjoyed it. But putting my most treasured people on their own, where literally anyone has unrestricted access to them, whilst I sleep separately, in a separate tent? No way.

Kids are mini houdinis - whatever (potentially dangerously time-consuming in the event of emergency) mechanism you put in place to stop them escaping unsupervised, you cannot guarantee they won't find a way out. Wandering toddlers in unfamiliar surroundings in the dark is almost as scary as someone getting to them while you sleep. Horrified you are even thinking about this if you are so sure they're such good sleepers Hmm

Stichintime · 13/05/2021 21:10

You are not suggesting a 1 and 2 year old have their own tent...are you?

ImFree2doasiwant · 13/05/2021 21:11

Just take the big tent! What a mental idea!!

Sittinonthesand · 13/05/2021 21:16

No, you aren’t thinking of putting a baby and a toddler on their own in a tent? I can’t have just read that because it would be unbelievably foolhardy and no one would admit to it.

Mumdiva99 · 13/05/2021 21:16

Of course your 2 babies can be in a tent on their own. What if one wakes in the night and is scared? What if one is sick? What if they get out? One adult and one child in each tent.

I did leave my 3 in a tent on their own 2 years ago when they were 7, 9 and 11...but even that was a little risky and would be frowned upon by some. I had the tent next to them.

Mumdiva99 · 13/05/2021 21:19

Can't be in a tent.....not can

hellolittlebaby · 13/05/2021 21:20

A one year old and a 2 year old on their own in a tent? No.

PotteringAlong · 13/05/2021 21:23

I cannot believe you actually use the phrase safety first as you simultaneously talk about letting your 1 and 2 year olds sleep alone in a tent at night...

TooManyGlasses · 13/05/2021 21:24

The humungous tent would be much safer op...

Faranth · 13/05/2021 21:24

You can't put two tiny children on their own in a seperate tent!

And please, for the love of God, don't do anything daft like padlocking the zip to keep them in, even if you're in the tent with them! So so dangerous. A spark from a nearby campfire or bbq and the whole thing would go up before you even found the key.

lakesidelife · 13/05/2021 21:26

This is such a bad idea I'm tempted to think it is a parody.
There is nothing about either babies or small dc being in tents by themselves that is a good idea.

MyDcAreMarvel · 13/05/2021 21:27

Either you must be joking or I am very confused.

TooManyGlasses · 13/05/2021 21:28

You could put mini travel cots inside the main area of the humongous tent and then the two adults and two older children could be in the two mini bedrooms . Assuming there are two bedrooms...? Or to save work, leave out the mini bedrooms and just all sleep in the big tent together. For privacy people could get changed in the shower block.

FTEngineerM · 13/05/2021 21:36

Two babies alone in a tent?!

Napssszzz · 18/05/2021 20:18

It would be on private land guys we'd be right next door

OP posts:
Couldhavebeenme2 · 18/05/2021 22:38

No op. Just no. You absolutely CANNOT leave 2 babies on their own overnight in a tent.

I'm horrified you are even considering this.

Applesandpears23 · 18/05/2021 22:43

Joining in the chorus of no, you cannot do this.

JocastaNu · 18/05/2021 22:45

This can't be real? Seriously?
