Can it be done? How?

OMG. This is one of the WORST ideas I've ever known.

Makes absolutely no difference if it's on private land. A girl was abducted from a tent in her own back garden in the UK (can't remember the full details, it was about 15-20 years ago). She was camping out with siblings/friends in a secure, private garden.

I realise abductions are incredibly rare, but they could escape, wake up scared, get absolutely soaking wet, smother themselves or each other - it's NOTHING like sharing a bedroom at home where the surroundings are familiar and they're in a proper cot/bed in a proper room.

I can't believe you'd even think of putting them in a tent on their own, and don't imagine the owners of the private land would think it a sensible idea either. Hopefully they'll stop you if we can't convince you it's a very bad idea.

@Twatterati you know what, danger is everywhere. Tents don't even have solid walls! Do you have an entry level (cos, not loaded, hence camping) apocalypse bunker we can rent for a week?

We’ve camped with our kids since they were babies/toddlers, done the whole travel cot/inflatable toddler bed thing. I get that the big tent is a pain, but I think you probably need to stick with it for a bit longer. I liked being able to zip them into their compartment and know they couldn’t reach to unzip. Mine are now 11, 15 & 17 and we have had a smaller main tent/three pup tent set up for a couple of years now and it works well. I pitch the 11yo very close to where I’m sleeping so we can chat through the tent sides in the morning.

I think the risk is low, especially on private land, but I probably wouldn’t sleep too well with the babies in another tent, plus total PITA if it’s raining. My two older kids both spent the night in a hammock in the back garden last year and I had the most shit nights sleep both time. Really stupid, but my unconscious clearly wasn’t happy about it at all.

If you're not a troll you're mad. It might be private property and low risk for your older kids but at 1 and 2 they're still babies. I would not put my babies in a tent on their own even in my own garden and if my OH suggested it I'd probably tell him there was no f***g way we'd be going if he didn't come up with another solution. It's bonkers. It reckless. It's...I don't even know what but thinking about it makes me want to cuss, a lot. I don't understand how you can even be comfortable with the idea.

How old are the older 2 kiddies? I mean if it's too short a time to not bother putting the big tent up can you not suck it up and be less selfish for a few nights? Or would it be possible to put a baby in with each of the older kids? Either way popup travel cots would be a good idea to limit escape attempts and prevent someone accidentally rolling over in the night and smothering one of them.

Instead of getting 4 pop up tents, get a non humungous easy to put up family sized tunnel tent with bedroom compartments.

A tunnel tent is incredibly easy to put up, you will have standing space. The older kids in their own tents if you like.

Why two babies in their own tent?
