If money was no object, which tent would you buy?

I'm thinking of buying a new tent for this year. Mostly because I'm bored, fed up with having holidays cancelled and have some spare cash.

My criteria are:

  • Easy to take down/put up
  • No canvas. Am open to polycotton
  • Fit 3 people comfortably with room for a 4th sometimes
  • Standing room in the living area
  • Nice looking (totally subjective i know)

I can't really find anything thats prompting me to buy yet. So I'm asking you, if money was no object , what tents would you buy? It doesn't have to fit my criteria. I'm just looking for some random inspiration.

I've had another thought. One of those posh safari tents that folds out of the top of a Land Rover. Had serious tent envy in the summer over one of those.

Vango rosewood tipi. All the good things about a bell tent but half the weight because its polycotton.

It’s the canvas what makes a nice tent nice

Like a cotton top v a polyester one

RomainingCalm · 19/03/2021 19:00

I really, really, want the Berghaus Air 6XL Polycotton.

We love camping but are 'long weekend' campers so it's hard to justify. It's big and heavy, we'd probably need a new car, but it's on my wish list.

Kazzyhoward · 19/03/2021 19:01

If money were no object, I'd just book into a decent hotel.

Handsnotwands · 19/03/2021 19:04

This is the one I dream of

Big fan of an air tent. I can put the Decathlon four person one up on my own in about 10 minutes.

RedPandaFluff · 19/03/2021 19:19

That's the one we have, @RomainingCalm - it's brilliant. So quick and easy to put up and take down. You just have to make sure you roll it up and squash it to get all the air out to get it back in the hold-all.

RomainingCalm · 20/03/2021 08:33

Oh thank you @RedPandaFluff - with not much else to do I spend a lot of time looking at tents and that's the one I keep coming back to as it has everything on my tick list.

We currently have an airbeam tent so maybe this one wouldn't be so much bigger. Back to the website...

TwoBreakingIntoOne · 20/03/2021 08:39

I'd go for a Dutch pyramid tent. More practical than Bell tents and some models have a large porch area for cooking

Judgedbycats · 11/04/2021 23:54

Just bought a Berghaus air 4xl and I LOVE IT! I can't wait for camping this year.

lolacola77 · 11/04/2021 23:55

One that I could dump in a cupboard at a gorgeous hotel!

HelloDaisy · 25/04/2021 16:28

We have a 4.5m bell tent and I can put it up on my own in about 10 minutes as it’s so easy with one pole. We have the inner tent too which helps to keep it cosy. I do really like it but not as much as I loved our big Outwell Bear Lake. However we had the bear lake for 10+ years though all weathers whereas have only used the bell tent a few times so it may grow on me.

We changed tents due to dh being ill and unable to lift the bear lake so this one means we can still camp.

I would definitely recommend the bell tent and so far we haven’t had any problems drying it out afterwards...

HelloDaisy · 25/04/2021 16:30

Oh, I forgot to answer your question! Whilst I love the bell tent, if money were no object I would keep the bear lake but pay somebody to take it to site and pitch it for us and the return after our holiday to pack it up and bring it home 😀

A Holtkamper Kyte. Thing of beauty.

Zempire tents are lovely, but as with all air beam options, are big and heavy. I have a much smaller (4/5 person), nylon, air beam which I can put up by myself in 20 minutes. Not sure I could manage a big one on my own.

As an extended family we have this tent in various sizes and they’re fabulous.

I have one of these, and absolutely love it. It has two bedrooms, space to stand up in the middle and best of all only takes about 10 mins to put up (pop-up).

We had a huge Vango before (more like a marquee), which was very spacious, but took ages to put up and was very heavy.

I think you can only get the Quechua one second-hand now, but they're great little tents.

ChristopherTracy · 28/04/2021 11:11

We go camping with our 5m bell with two kids in a Fiesta with a roofbox so you don't need a massive car. They are heavy though but lighter than the equivalent mega family tents.
If money was no object (or space, or pitch regulations) then I would have one of those bells that you can link together and have a proper stove in it as well.

longtompot · 28/04/2021 11:29

I came on to say a camper van Grin

But I've wanted one of these tents for ages. Lots of room. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00BFVKP4Y?ascsubtag=pfb-P01-V01-O3-T1-LO-QOC1YI&ref_=pfb_465e78c1kee51441l9ac19m38n34&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

We currently have a Gelert Beyond Corvus 5+2 which we have fitted 5 plus dog in comfortably when our friends tent blew down in the middle of the night. It's a bit too big for just me dh and the dog which is why I want the other one. I really think we could, park, our car in this one it's so massive! www.campingworld.co.uk/en/Beyond-Corvus-52-Tent/m-6960.aspx

swizzlestix · 01/05/2021 07:05

I really want this one

Robens Kiowa tipi tent. It looks great and has loads of space! You can put bedrooms in it if you want to partition it inside, and it will take a wood burning stove too (without the bedrooms in). It's also really easy to put up when you know how to it.

averythinline · 07/05/2021 08:10

Current fave for just us/me is ny Robens fairbanks....not big but lovely and polycotton...
If needed bigger would look at others in that range...they are so well made
Or Eureka! A Dutch company....I am a big polycotton fan I've had 2 of their tents and are great......although have switched to Robens
Always thought I'd want a bell tent but they are just not practical for me .....however occasionally get tempted by the Dutch pyramid tents with lots of guys cabannon/obelink...
