How do you make your tent cosy?

So - main holidays this year are going to be camping - 3 separate trips.

We're seasoned campers, but in more recent years we've mostly camped at festivals ie never in the tent.

What can I do to make the tent cosy and lovely to be in? Prepared to invest in either infrastructure or fripperies!

Always take a heater which we can use in the evenings and acts as a fan during the day.
Take a pillow.
Ridiculously over the top but we do take a tv and now tv stick. Perfect for the kids to chill out to after an action packed day outside. Allows a breather for the parents too.
Hand held vac to keep the tent clean.
Fairy lights essential.

I have a memory foam mattress topper to put on top of our mattresses and a duvet for on top of the sleeping bags. I got little folding steps as side tables and lightbulb shaped torches to hang

midnightstar66 · 11/07/2020 21:01

@Dangermouse80 how on earth does a tv stick work? Does it connect to a phone hotspot?

Nackajory · 11/07/2020 21:02

Fairy lights add a certain something of an evening

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 11/07/2020 21:02

Piles of blankets/throws, makes the beds look nice during day and lovely to cozy up with around fire. Fairy lights. Painted crates - storage to get to camping, make great little tables upturned.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 11/07/2020 21:03

Last time we went, a woman next to us had proper pop up beds, tent carpets and a little kitchenette and hanging lamps. Looked lovely in her tent.

fruitpastille · 11/07/2020 21:05

Tent carpet makes a massive difference.

BrieAndChilli · 11/07/2020 21:05

We have a tent carpet (came with our tent but you can buy them separately) for the living area. Does make it seem cosier and less cold.

Fairy lights

Fire (if allowed) obvs outside!!

Plenty of blankets etc

Lanterns

Each child gets an under the bed storage box which I put toys and books etc in which lives at the end of their bed. Makes it feel like their space.

PlanDeRaccordement · 11/07/2020 21:08

I camp too and loathe the people who take a TV camping. The noise disturbs everyone nearby. And what is the point of camping if you’re just going to stare at a TV screen?

NickMyLipple · 11/07/2020 21:12

Oh, we do proper DIY glamping. DP isn't one for no electricity or showers!!

We have a mahoosive tent air tent which is pitched in minutes, with carpets. We also have an inflatable air bed which is a full size queen bed, and a normal height eg not on the floor. We take foam tiles for underneath it, and we put a duvet under us and on top of us too! We have a lovely camping kitchen with organised cupboards etc. We take a little portable speaker for music which I think helps with coziness, and we have a doormat for muddy shoes! We also have moon chairs which are amazing and I wouldn't be without, and a fold up table as I don't like eating off my lap!

BlueSlice · 11/07/2020 21:14

Yeah I totally don’t get the TV idea. If you desperately need the kids to zone out (and for whatever reason not with a book, etc?) wouldn’t a phone/tablet and headphones be so much easier?

I could not be bothered to lug a TV about. And I would feel bad for inflicting TV noise on the campsite. You camp to get away from that type of noise.

Nomorewineever · 11/07/2020 21:17

We have a bell tent. We have a wood burning stove, carpets and a hanging tealight holder. If we go out high season we don’t take the stove but the tea light holder makes a huge difference in terms of ambience.

If you mean warmth and we don’t have the stove we take a hook-up and electric blankets! Way better to warm the beds toasty rather than the air which just dissipates. 8 hour timer. Warm as anything!

MotherMorph · 11/07/2020 21:19

We always take a duvet instead of sleeping bags and our own pillows....and the heater us an essential - we even used it (as a heater!!)in the heatwave of summer 2018!

BrieAndChilli · 11/07/2020 21:21

Another one who wouldn’t be happy with the noise of tv from a nearby tent!!!!

Nice thick fluffy onesies for the kids (and is) helps to feel cosier

BrieAndChilli · 11/07/2020 21:22

I wouldn’t take tealights for inside a tent - I would be paranoid about them being knocked over or causing a fire

starrynight19 · 11/07/2020 21:22

Heater
Carpet
Good lights
Inflatable sofa
Blankets
bedding rather than sleeping bags

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 11/07/2020 21:28

What are the best camping chairs, do you think?

And what lights would you recommend?

Have got tent carpet. Will deffo get a trug for shoes.

HumphreyGoodmanswife · 11/07/2020 21:32

Ooh, and a portable campfire

raspberryk · 11/07/2020 21:33

We do this by not camping Grin

We love these, use up hardly any room in the boot as they're inflatable

HumphreyGoodmanswife · 11/07/2020 21:38

Sorry, no pic there. Can't seem to attach Blush

Icanflyhigh · 11/07/2020 21:40

@raspberryk that made me chuckle a lot!! I know where you're coming from though - I've got an an old VW camper which is the closest to camping I'll ever get now!

NannyR · 11/07/2020 21:42

I take cushions and blankets, fairy lights, sometimes I take a duvet instead of a sleeping bag. I have a carpet for my tent but don't really like it - bits of grass and leaves etc seem to stick to it like velcro, making it difficult to sweep. I much prefer a couple of the small, cheap rag rugs from ikea, they are easier to shake out and much more colourful!
