Looks like we can go camping

According to the news today I can start getting my tent ready to go camping from 4th July. Some sites might not have full toilet/shower facilities but I’m sure most will especially in tourist areas. Can’t wait to be able to book. Anyone else as excited as me?

I already had a booking with another family - today when I confirmed that we were still going they told me we have our own toilet/ shower block which is fantastic as it's the only area I was concerned about.

IsabelleSE19 · 23/06/2020 18:03

Booked about ten minutes after BoJo's speech - really hope it all goes ahead! Would be lovely to get away and use our very expensive tent that we bought last year.

Milliways · 23/06/2020 18:05

Yay! We are already booked on a site for 4th & 5th July, and now looking to book some places for a 2 week break in September (Motorhome).

allmycats · 23/06/2020 18:07

Was already pre booked with caravan and motor home club. They are very strict on distance between pitches anyway, much more space than many other sites. Aa we have our own on board facilities in our motorhome I am very much looking forward to a change of scenery.

cptartapp · 23/06/2020 18:11

Had two trips in July and August booked for a while now seeing as Greece is unlikely

NickMarlow · 23/06/2020 18:13

Already booked 3 nights with friends in August on a small site that didnt require a deposit and wont charge if they cant open.

Today we've booked a week with my sister and her family too. Haven't seen them since October - cannot wait!!!!!!

itsgettingweird · 23/06/2020 18:20

Hopefully pools will open. That's a big thing for us when we book camping.

NotSorry · 23/06/2020 18:38

We’ve had a site booked at the end of August, since January - we’ve a touring caravan so can be completely self sufficient if necessary

Feeling hopefully now

BrandNewShinyThings · 23/06/2020 18:40

I'm still unsure about shared toilet and shower facilities. Can't see how they can make them hygienic. Bloody miss camping but really don't know if we will feel safe enough to go this yearSad

OneForMeToo · 23/06/2020 19:04

Our site have said we can all take our own toilets and toilet tents if we wish but their toilets/showers will be open. I will make sure I have my own just so it’s only showers/getting water I need their facilities for.

IsabelleSE19 · 23/06/2020 19:14

Unless things have changed for the worse again by August I'm not too worried about shared facilities. Will just be scrupulous about wiping touchpoints like taps etc and wash hands thoroughly. No shoes in tent but we try not to do that anyway.

hillbilly · 23/06/2020 19:20

We booked a few weeks ago for mid July. Can't wait!

Cuppaand2biscuits · 23/06/2020 19:27

We were already booked for August but not sure we'll go. I think it will be a very different holiday this year. We've booked in a very popular tourist area that is usually very busy.
Lots of queuing for supermarkets, having to be very organised and pre booking days out.

PurBal · 23/06/2020 20:37

We either go wild camping and dig a hile or choose wild camp style sites that usually don't have showers and have compost loos. Only use them for number 2s so I'm not concerned about hygiene. Booked for a long weekend and we are so excited.

PurBal · 23/06/2020 20:38

No more than usual I should say!

lovinglavidaloca · 23/06/2020 20:56

I’m wondering if now would be the first time to try camping as a family - at what age would children have their own sleeping compartment please?

profpoopsnagle · 23/06/2020 21:17

Yippee!

Have worked throughout the outbreak as a KW so very much looking forward to some time off and respite from the daily grind. Not worried about the showers and loos in the slightest, if they're open, I'm using them. Will take an extra bowl to have in tent and encourage hand washing on exiting and entering tent, just like we have done for our house during this time.

JustMarriedBecca · 23/06/2020 23:04

Excited. If we feel the showers aren't being cleaned regularly we'll just use baby wipes for a long weekend and water in the tent. I need a change of scene. Just not sure where to go. Want to avoid Cornwall / Devon as I saw an article that said 27% of the population are hoping to visit over summer. I can't cope with that many people 😂

TheSandman · 24/06/2020 02:20

Anyone in England thinking about coming camping to Scotland or Wales.... don't.

We're shut.

Seriously. At the moment we're still in a much more stringent lockdown than England.

IsabelleSE19 · 24/06/2020 10:30

Not sure I understand someone speaking for both Wales and Scotland, but yes, I get the message loud and clear! Our Wales holiday is now a Norfolk holiday, and we will maybe try Wales another year when we are welcome. Although maybe as English people that's not any time soon?

TheSandman · 24/06/2020 14:25

Us Celtic nations stick together.

OneForMeToo · 24/06/2020 14:28

Well fortunately Scotland isn’t on my list of places to camp Lucky me. Neither was wales this year.

IsabelleSE19 · 24/06/2020 14:55

Don't think Wales got that memo when it came to the Brexit vote! This kind of exclusionary language is not very helpful, and turns what should be a nice camping thread into nationalism.

erm... "when we are welcome. Although maybe as English people that's not any time soon?"

So, my post, pointing out that the rules in Scotland in Wales are different to those in England, immediately gets turned into an accusation of Anti-Englishness... and I get accused of nationalism!?

My post expressing solidarity with other nations is called 'exclusionary'?

The lockdown rules are different here. A local hotelier has posted that people (not necessarily English) have turned up to his isolated establishment expecting it to be open. Then pounding on the doors demanding entrance, and then, when they couldn't, shitting in the car park because the toilets they were expecting/hoping to use aren't open.
