Buying a tent unseen. Is this an enormously foolish thing to do?

Ok, I will try very hard to make this my last hopelessly indecive thread in camping.

I am going out of my mind, I am so utterly unable to make a choice on this tent buying that I even clicked on the Eurocamp Ad in my inbox today.

So, after what seems like hours of going through the archived threads here, and on UK Campsite I have whittled my choice down to 2 (or maybe 3...gawd Spanish Inquisition sketch).

The choice is between
a) Coleman Galileo XL Weathermaster

b)Vermont L but can't choose between the L or XL

and maybe c) Vango Breckenridge 600.

My choice on paper in the Colorado....but I haven't seen it up. I have been googling away forever and can't seem to find a camping store near me that has it.

I have seen the Outwell and the Vango, they both seem like great tents (and tbh I'm sure would do us fine), but I do have concerns about the size and leakyness of the outwell, and colour and porch size/lay out of the Vango.

Ghaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllllllp

We have a trailer and it's still touch and go whether we'll have room for the kids. When we started out two years ago it all fitted in the car! Then we progressed to roof box now the trailer. It's a matter of time beforeee we have to buy an artic!

slub - who wears the trousers in your house? Tell him to sod off and buy your tent anyway!

Slubberdegullion · 18/08/2007 22:58

, I could buy the lovely tent. But might be caming on my own while the rest of the family are in a cosy cottage.

I know where I'd rather be. Walls are for wimps!

I'm impressed that you can put the tent up alone (no seriously), I am massively instrucions inept. I would need him initially or would end up having to kip under the tent bag.

I am tough, and middlingly rugged (I have 2 pairs of walking boots) but am realistic re my inherent weaknesses. Poor spatial organisation. Problems with left and right. accident prone. I'm a sole erectee accident waiting to happen.

I'm adopting the slowly slowly catchy monkey approach. Hope to be camping next w/e in our small w/e tent. I am planning to drop into the conversation a few times things like.....'Oh well dear if we had that lovely big Coleman we could sit inside in our lovely camping chairs, inside and play scrabble together at a table (DH likes scrabble). I could also make low moaning noises as we walk past some lovely big tents.

You never know he might change his mind

Do you think caressing the guy lines of a 6 man tunnel would be a step too far?

...you should have seen the practice ones

Wouldn't you think that with modern technology they would have developed a tent where you lay it out and press a button and it springs up into position?

WendyWeber · 19/08/2007 00:30

Slub, I have just looked at your fab cakes and you have antique Fisher Price people on one of them...those were yours, weren't they? (dd1 is 25, counting on fingers makes me suspect your mum has had them stashed away...)

Slubberdegullion · 19/08/2007 10:43

Wendy you are right. They were my fisher price people, lovingly stashed away for 30 years by my dear mother. They are hollow inside which does make for some sophisticated tongue twiddling to get the icing out.
