Buying a tent unseen. Is this an enormously foolish thing to do?

Ok, I will try very hard to make this my last hopelessly indecive thread in camping.

I am going out of my mind, I am so utterly unable to make a choice on this tent buying that I even clicked on the Eurocamp Ad in my inbox today.

So, after what seems like hours of going through the archived threads here, and on UK Campsite I have whittled my choice down to 2 (or maybe 3...gawd Spanish Inquisition sketch).

The choice is between
a) Coleman Galileo XL Weathermaster

b)Vermont L but can't choose between the L or XL

and maybe c) Vango Breckenridge 600.

My choice on paper in the Colorado....but I haven't seen it up. I have been googling away forever and can't seem to find a camping store near me that has it.

I have seen the Outwell and the Vango, they both seem like great tents (and tbh I'm sure would do us fine), but I do have concerns about the size and leakyness of the outwell, and colour and porch size/lay out of the Vango.

Ghaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllllllp

busy, if it's fab I may just have to secretly buy it and hide it from DH in the garage until next year...and hide the receipt....and the credit card bill

Thanks sally. Oh I was all ready to put the Coleman in my shopping basket this morning and DH has pissed all over my lovely camping fire (although tbh looking out at the weather today I do see his point).

Well we don't even know what week in sept we are having yet. Dh has to wait until end of next week until senior partners come back from their jollies....we might get 1st week in sept, or the last.

The weather in sept was fab last year (my glass is usually half full), so I was thinking buy tent this week, practice putting it up next week, head off in sept for week of laughter and sunshine with everyone else back at school.

ha ha

Ohhhhhh, have been just looking at cottages...we could buy that coleman and have change for the price of a week in a house. Why does my DH not have more vision

You could have this for £340 that week, and less later on...

Have to say I am with your DH - I hate camping if it's not warm and dry and pleasant

Slubberdegullion · 18/08/2007 12:07

Oh that looks pretty Wendy (not as pretty as a lovely new big green tent mind). Have booked marked it, thank you

Can't see what is wrong with a week in Anglesy, in the rain, with small children, in a tent, myself.

Mean.

Slubberdegullion · 18/08/2007 12:21

busy after the 1 night practice camp/air bed debacle 2 weeks ago, there is I'm afraid a small risk that after a week under canvas with our Dc we could return with one child (or husband) less.

You may lose a part of the family but you would have a beautiful tent.

Slubberdegullion · 18/08/2007 12:49

It's a price I'm happy to pay

No-one ever speaks of Skandika tents on here! I'm begining to think I've made a massive camping faux pas! We bought ours from an Ebay shop and I thought it compared very well to some of the Outwell tents, only very much cheaper. They're in Germany, but even paying £14 p&p, they're still good value. Have a look

Thanks SS, I've looked at that before. There's still not a massive amount of comment on them though is there? I guess its because they don't have a UK outlet that no-one knows much about them. Well let me be the first to tell you, my Jasper family tent measured up very nicely pitched next to an Outwell last week!

It is unbelievable how long it takes to get everything together - and we only went three weeks ago and most of the stuff was still in the trailer. I am worn out already!
