Well if you are going to go for it anyhow you may as well get it cheap BUT two pints:

A) It will be peeing down tomorrow!

B) given the weather this season, Ebay will be FULL of tents, including the Norfolk, as people sweat they will never ever camp[ again and give up the hobby for good (and at least we'll all get easy booking again...)

Hello Happy Campers, as some of you are here could a camping virgin ask an impertinent question (rather than start a new thread).

What do your DC sleep on?

Looked at the ready beds, but quite pricey and when I checked in the archives they seem to puncture/leak quite easily.

So looked in camping shops at the fabby self inflating mini mattresses (name escapes me). £40+ each. Yikes. Will pay that at a push if they are really worth it....

On the loo today flicking through the argos catalogue swa those old style camp beds with legs, about £20 each I think. Nothing to puncture. I slept on them as a kid when we camped. Any good?

Thank you oh wise tent people for your sage advice

Peachy · 14/07/2007 19:19

they ahd ready beds when they were little, they now all (and that includes ds3 who si nearly 4) have camp beds BUT Millets do perfectly good ones for a tenner! They also do decent sleeping bags for kids for £15

Slubberdegullion · 14/07/2007 19:23

Brilliant. DDs are 2 and 3 but will sleep practically anywhere so might just go for the millets camp beds with rug underneath the sleeping bag.

Thank you Peachy!

This summer is turning out to be a disaster on the weather front. I haaaaaate this weather. Wish I could emigrate

Peachy · 14/07/2007 19:25

We put the rug under the beds, then when its really cold (we start camping early in the season- April) we just tkae old cot balnkets and the like to pop on top.

Slubberdegullion · 14/07/2007 19:28

We had our first sunny day today, I'm getting all revved up about buying the camping gear and setting forth. Lots of stuff in the Millets sale I see....oh dear the credit card may be taking a hefty blow if the weather stays fair (ha bloody ha).

Peachy · 14/07/2007 19:30

loads of stuff EVERYWHERE

Woolies ahve kids fold up tables- quite sturdy, cute bugs design- for £5.24.

I got one!

Slubberdegullion · 14/07/2007 19:36

Are all the camping shops going sale crazy as the weather is so bad? Or is it always like this pre school holidays. Was in town on thursday, there are about 5 camping/treking shops all stuffed full of young (attractive) male shop assistants loitering about with nothing to do.

All I had to say was 'I'm thinking about buying a tent', cue energetic tent demonstrations, catalogue showings multiple, multiple questions Ghaaaaaaaaaaaaa TO MUCH CHOICE. Was most bewildered. A RL camping friend is taking me out again next week....she knows her tent stuff and can spot a bargain!

well lucycat et al-you have missed the entertainment of the year this afternoon.

we decided to do what everyone says and go and have a practice session with our new tent before next weekend.

imagine the scene- dh and i and the two boys at bruntwood, trying to erect this tent on the muddiest field ever.

it took us 1 hour and 15 mins toput it up and take it down again.

the children were so covered in mud that we had to strip them down to their undies before they could get in the car.

we shouted at each other, we argued, we laughed.
a couple walked past with a dog and looked at us like we were MENTAL

we have brought the tent home all unfolded in the boot of the car as it is so muddy.

omg.

Peachy · 14/07/2007 19:53

you were right not to pack up the tent, never pack away a wet tent- you need to dry oit off as fasta s you can. I notice a lot of peolpe take squeegee mops now for that reason.

It took us about that to pitch ours first off (Khyam Ontario 8), now Dh can do it single handedly in 20 minutes! You speed up rapidly.

Lucycat · 14/07/2007 19:54

Bruntwood!! gawd you are brave! for the rest of the world who don't live in Stockport tis a park where every child in Stockport goes on a sunny day - tis usually heaving!

erm just how long did it take you to put a Vango Venture 500 up?!!!

You should have come to our house, I would have provided beer and tickets for passers by

Well done btw - all ready to set off into the wild blue yonder

filchthemildmanneredjanitor · 14/07/2007 19:54

i can't imagine how on earth we will do it next week if it's raining.

Peachy · 14/07/2007 19:55

what day are you going?

filchthemildmanneredjanitor · 14/07/2007 19:55

we went on the fields-quite far back. not a soul there!!!

we're not DAFT!

Lucycat · 14/07/2007 19:55

Get it dried tonight if possible, the forecast isn't good for tomorrow.

filchthemildmanneredjanitor · 14/07/2007 19:56
