We are off to Whitecliff Bay Holiday park for four nights over the last May Bank Holiday weekend. Then going to Mullion Holiday Park, Cornwall for a week in August.

We will be at Tristram on the cliffs at Polzeath Cornwall from Aug 11th.

Not going to IOW at Whit now as DH can't get time off

dcm - we camped with our friends last year they had their new DD3 with them aged 6 weeks. She was the easiest of the lot.

dustystar · 16/05/2007 12:11

here is the forest holidays site

PeachyChocolateEClair · 16/05/2007 13:26

Megalaegs yu can always try and grab a weekend away sometime? We do aods- first sniff of an inset day and we're away LOL (helps to haev a couple sites you like in under an hours drive stashed- wehave cheddar and forest of dean for those purposes).

And theres always next year

We're going away not over Whit, but the half term- when everyone is heading back on the Monday we're off then LOL

issyissyissy · 16/05/2007 13:38

We want t pgo camping this year. I am weaning my d who is 8 months. How do you manage with their food when away. At home I am making my own puree and feezing it all but am confused as to what to do when away. Is it best to just give jars for the week?

issyissyissy · 16/05/2007 13:38

Sorry should be dd!

curiouscat · 16/05/2007 13:55

Is anyone else camping at the Hay Book Festival? We'll be there 2-4 June with kids age 5,6,9. Wd love to bond with anyone over the campfire, we went last year and loved it.

Tigana · 16/05/2007 14:02

issyissyissy - you could try jars if dd will eat them. OR...will you electric? If so you can take a hand blender and blitz up whatever you and DH are having (or a variation on that)

Re FFing- you can sterilse bottles by boiling them in water over a camping stove.
Boil water in vcamping kettle and allow to cool. Take enough formula powder and scoops etc.

We camped with ds when he was about 9 months onwards. Not a nightmare - little awkward as I was expressing as well as FFing and had to keep nipping into the tent to express and friends could just hear the 'creeeeak' of the hand pump

PeachyChocolateEClair · 16/05/2007 14:38

have to say, forjust a few days you can go a long way with just fromage frais and mashed banana LOL! Twas our staple emergency foods beack when ds's were being weaned

PeachyChocolateEClair · 16/05/2007 14:39

The other alternative if FF wwhen camping to boiling is a cold water steriliser and miltons, of course, really easy and bottles can be stored in there until needed.

tinytotmummy · 16/05/2007 15:37

Pennace Mill near Falmouth for us for 2-3 weeks in August, plus odd weekends whenever we can go. Both sets of gps live a stones throw away so v handy for babysitting when putting the tent up - we can't manage a 2.5 and a 3.9 year old and a tent!!

issyissyissy · 16/05/2007 15:56

Thanks for the help. Tigana- I hadn't thought of taking blender, thanks, excellent idea. With that and fromagefrais and banana she should be fine. She has had a couple of jars but refused them every time!

Emma07 · 16/05/2007 16:04

We going away in campervan on friday (south coast) with a 6week old baby are we mad? We planning to just take her moses basket on rocker and put it between our two beds in the van. Do you think it will be warm enough (she sleeps in a grobag - big baby!)? We can stay with relatives but really wanna give the van with the litte one a try, as its our first baby.

Tigana · 16/05/2007 16:08

Not mad.

A little baby will probably sleep through most of the action...so easy to put up a tent with a baby as opposed to toddler who wants to 'help' or explore!

Take extra clothes for baby to sleep in, including mitts and a hat. Could co-sleep with you for extra snugglyness if needed?

Nittyb · 16/05/2007 16:16

Going to Quantock Orchard, Somerset for Bank Hol - kind of hoping the weather will improve by then, it's got an outdoor pool !!

Nittyb · 16/05/2007 16:18

What's the Hay Book festival ? sounds interesting...

PeachyChocolateEClair · 16/05/2007 16:22

Wherrabouts in Somerset is that Nitty? (come from that way)

Nittyb · 16/05/2007 16:29

Crowcombe, on road from Taunton to Minehead. Never been there before, friend booked it but looks lovely - which they usually do as piccies are always taken in the sunshine !! It's got a fitness place with sauna !

PeachyChocolateEClair · 16/05/2007 16:32

Oh its lovely there! And the steam railway so close too

let us know what its like please (we're in Cheddar for Whit so also Somerset)

Nittyb · 16/05/2007 16:34

Always do Towersey Village festival on August Bank Hol - any other folkies out there, although I can only claim to be a once a year folkie

Nittyb · 16/05/2007 16:37

Friend tell me we can get steam railway to coast , getting excited about it now !

PeachyChocolateEClair · 16/05/2007 16:43

You can, to Minehead- its lovely around that way

Do consider a trip to Glastonbury as well, not too far from there.

curiouscat · 16/05/2007 16:45

Hay Book Festival takes place in Hay on Wye, on Welsh/English border. Lots of well known literary people there discussing their new books, children's events too. No entry fee, you book whichever talk etc you want to go to prices around £5-8 pounds. It's in half term week, try googling hayfestival for programme. Some are sold out already. Amazing atmosphere with everyone wandering round bumping into eachother because their noses are in books

PeachyChocolateEClair · 16/05/2007 16:46

Shame its when we're away as we live so close by (if you need to take the LO's out Caerleon is great for little ones who like Roman type things)

Surfermum · 16/05/2007 19:42

Friends of our stayed at Tristram last August Megalegs. We had a very windswept barbecue with them one evening, while we enjoyed the view. They sent a text next morning - they'd woken up to see dolphins playing in the surf .

We're going to Bere Regis for Whitsun, Crantock in Cornwall at the start of the school holidays and near Weymouth with some other mumsnetters in July. Will maybe fit a 4th trip in at the end of the summer.

Tigana · 16/05/2007 20:31

We use dto stay at Tristram in Polzeath, did 3 or 4 trips there. lovely location..little pricey though..and it was full of people in shiney BMWs and audis and posh cars . Great for walking to beach and into town.
