So....I want a nice cafe which serves actual coffee made using beans.

FRESH poncey food a bonus also.

(this is where forestry commission sites fall down)

Stuff like compost toilets and general countryside malarky etc is fine, actually its good. The fewer tin tents the better (oooh)

So, does such a campsite exist, preferably in south wales or nearby?

And if not...well...

yes we have a Kelly's Kettle .. its DH's favourite thing (he's Irish I think its a genetic thing )

They're selling cobbs in Lakeland now

I do like them .. if we do enough camping this year we might invest

Aefondkiss · 13/04/2007 21:43

funny you should mention the genetic thing, dh is Irish, his brother has one and thinks it is great...

Well I was going to post but as you've been rude about Newport.

Or is my bit of Caerleon OK?

Camping gaz do a party grill, comes in an easy carry bag and collapses down but is MUCH more stable than any of those scary single burner stoves, because of the way it is designed. We had one last year. Shall fetch alink.

Not sure you deserve it, rude about my place of res. AND calling me a codger in 24 hours. Hmmph.

PeachyChocolateEClair · 14/04/2007 11:29

this

but hang in, if you want to buy them in wales.....

PeachyChocolateEClair · 14/04/2007 11:30

this fine example of a Welsh camping shop (and a lovely drive out too) stocks them.

Greenleeves · 14/04/2007 11:40

Take a nice big bag of chocolate covered coffee beans for breakfast

Do people usually go to these all-laid-on 'campsites' then? It seems a bit pointless to me . I assumed when people on here banged on about camping they meant proper camping!

lol at peach

hmm

ok you tell me something good about newport (the Most Violent Town In Britain) and i shall retract.

(i did live there for a bit, btw, this is not just cardiff snobbery)

caerleons not newport though, is it? caerleon is lovely, have seriously considered buying there but worried that there was no starbucks

Fillyjonk · 15/04/2007 17:20

i doint want all laid on btw

i just want good coffee

i want ideally a little caban in the woods with a knarled old couple selling organic crap and coffee. and bagels and lox, in an ideal world.

no chance of that in a tent

yes theres that vile thing about camping isnt there?

you are all pally and so on with everyone as you wait for the manky communal showers, you make small talk and so forth

then you have to listen to all sorts of eew noises emitting from their tents all night long

then

you get up in the morning and again are all pally and then repeat the process til you leave.

its rather odd and very british

oh eeww

we went to one campsite a few year back and there were several of these , ahem, older men and , ahem, younger blonde women. The men arrived in suits and left in suits. we wondered if it was a "wife cheaters" convention.

it was very strange, that they would try to woo them with partially thawed fishfingers and cold baked beans, not a nice hotel. if you are going to shag around, surely it should be done in style?

Ah but if I type my postcode in anything it says Newport- and I live in the very old bit too, not even the overlap.

Newport is far better than where I come from, however that was a council estate in bridgwater which was pretty rough to be frank, it was my maiden anme that saved me on many an occasion (my dad being from a rough and huge family and thereby scary by association )

So places like Bettws feel like home

And at least here they have shops and people from other cultures. Seriously lacking in Bridgy.

Blandmum · 15/04/2007 21:11

this campsite has a fab cafe

Not quite the gnarled organic folk, but the food in superb and is locally sourced. A fine cooked breakfast/coffee in the morning if you don't want to take a stove.

Nvere shagged in a tent

Fillyjonk · 16/04/2007 08:08

ok peachy i retract my comment as far as caeleon is concerned

we used to live quite close to the station in newport. does that perhaps make more sense of my aversion?

(actually I think its fine. we go there from time to time to gaze at the transporter bridge and so on. oh and there is a HErs gathering fortnightly which we go to. And now it has a starbucks, so can't be all bad...)

Fillyjonk · 16/04/2007 08:09

and mb that camspite could be very useful...my outlaws live in norfolk....

Bucketsofdynomite · 16/04/2007 10:30

"Nvere shagged in a tent"
Wow! I just couldn't call that a holiday! It is possible to do it quietly you know. But then my kids are both under 4 and wouldn't give a toss even if they did wake up - we may well have to buy some bedroom pods in years to come.

PeachyChocolateEClair · 16/04/2007 11:18

LOL at the bloody Starbucks! One thing ica n't stick, I will NEVER pay the same for one cup of cioffee that I can buy a jar / packet of the stuff for.

Fillyjonk · 16/04/2007 11:30

hmm

starbucks coffee costs £1.30

The ONLY place you can get a jar of actual COFFEE for that, not dried crap, is IKEA, and I dread to think how that works in a fairtrade way

PeachyChocolateEClair · 16/04/2007 11:39

Asda and teco now do a fairtrade one for £1.18.

course ita int the real stuff, although thats quite cheap now- bt hey I'm a student, least its not dust!!

Actually i'm a tea snob LOL- has to be Assam or I am not interested.

Fillyjonk · 16/04/2007 14:53

oooh won't get started on tea

thing is, you can usually get a decent coffee from somewhere. tea. feckin hell. I am a total tea snob and i like it properly brewed too.

otherwise am happy with water

actually my thing with starbucks is not coffee, their coffee isn't great, its that up til recently they were the only non sofaplay cafe i could go locally that was guarenteed non smoking and they were nice to the kids
