Ironing while camping

ChambourcyHippopotamousse · 23/07/2017 23:33

We're off tomorrow and I don't have time to can't be bothered to iron everything before we go.

We won't have EHU but there is a laundry room. In your experience is there usually an iron in there?

Ironing while camping?!! I'm at a loss for words. Different worlds I guess.

M5tothesouthwest · 23/07/2017 23:38

I'm a big fan of ironing have been known to iron pants and tea towels but even I wouldn't iron for / on a camping holiday. It's pointless, everything will get creased.

elephantoverthehill · 23/07/2017 23:39

Camping = no ironing

elephantoverthehill · 23/07/2017 23:39

Life = Ironing once in a blue moon

elephantoverthehill · 23/07/2017 23:41

Important things whilst camping= dry sleeping bags, dry tent. Neither of which need ironing.

Anomite · 23/07/2017 23:42

I don't iron at home.... who cares whilst your camping...!????

SSYMONDS · 23/07/2017 23:44

Ok. I may have seen shitey irons in a laundry room while camping, but it never crossed my mind to use them. Just get more beer and enjoy the outdoors.

chipmonkey · 24/07/2017 01:33

Poor Chambourcey! There was an iron in one of the campsites we visited but I don't recall seeing one in any of the others. But IME most people are grungier than usual whilst camping!

toffeeboffin · 24/07/2017 01:38

Brilliant.

Bit like having a three course meal with wine accompaniment whilst camping.

toffeeboffin · 24/07/2017 01:39

They could be useful though, could irons whilst camping.

To clout your noisy neighbours with, of course.

mohuzivajehi · 24/07/2017 03:09

Clothes that need ironing are not suitable for taking camping.

There's a laundry room so there will be good quality tumble driers - when yoi arrive put your dry clothes that are just a bit creased in for 30 mins in the tumble drier. The heat will soften the creases, and if you fold them right away they will be just as good as if ironed.

blackteaplease · 24/07/2017 03:20

I have definitely seenot irons and boards in UK campsite laundry rooms. I can't recall ever seeing one in Spanish or French campsites.

Oh and my experience of tumble dryers at campsites is that they are fixed onto low so you have to spend a million euros to dry half a load.

lizzieoak · 24/07/2017 03:49

I lived in the U.K. for years, but never went camping. I've learned something new - in Canada we don't have laundry rooms, irons, tumble driers or even flush toilets when camping. When your clothes get too dirty you go home.

Are these campgrounds with laundry rooms on campsites with tents or are we talking caravaning? We have government-run campgrounds and they're in the woods (or occasionally bluffs by the sea) & are very simple. A fire pit if you're lucky.

KickAssAngel · 24/07/2017 04:53

I've camped in several different countries, but never been to a campsite that's upmarket enough to have a laundry room. Thought we were being posh if we had toilets, let alone showers.

PeachPearPotato · 24/07/2017 04:57

Reporting thread. Wtf. Grin

blackteaplease · 24/07/2017 05:18

Lizzieoak There are very few places where you can legally wildcamp in england. The campsite all have varying degrees of facilities from rough and ready with compost loos to all signing all dancing with a pool. Generally the more expensive ones have a laundry room.

lizzieoak · 24/07/2017 05:50

Thanks blacktea, I had no idea! I'm more a nice hotel kind of person, but as it's almost illegal not to go camping in the woods at some point in your life if you're from Canada (or BC at least), then I have been on many (semi-forced) camping trips. It's very back to nature, as you might imagine. Once you're out of the cities here you're more often than not in the middle of nowhere. Cougars and elk and bears, oh my. And not an ironing board in site.

ChambourcyHippopotamousse · 24/07/2017 07:29

Thanks Mohuz, great idea to use the dryer. I wouldn't be arsed at all about wearing clothes that've been creased from being in a backpack but these have been screwed up in a laundry basket for three days.

I have seen irons on plenty of campsites here and in France. If you are away on a 2 week stay and someone has a favourite must wear all holiday item, or if attending an event they could be useful. I know people who camp near weddings etc as cheaper than hotels.

We bought a travel iron and took it with us every year for over 10 years and never used it though. Even with our camper I no longer pack it Grin

YellowLawn · 24/07/2017 07:38

you want to WHAT?

yes to pp, unless you camp in a part of the world where you get botfly, just don't.
