What are the best camping gadgets - you know the ones I 'need' to buy

I love the shoe rack on the other thread but I don't think I actually need one

What do I need "to buy" I mean I probably won't but there must be some good stuff out there

On a more serious note I need to sort out a bin & recycling!!

String and plastic bags.

One of those water scraper things on a pole. Like a window scraper but bigger (for sweeping out unwanted flood waters).

Nothing, you don't need anything extra other than the basics in a posh motorhome.

But motorhoming is quite actual camping is it?

Bog in a bag (google it). Game changer!

Self inflating mattress. So comfy!

Dust pan and brush.

Decent blow up beds.
What have you already got? Are you planning on moving around or stopping in one place for your holiday.?
We have a big tent and stay on the same campsite for a fortnight so have invested in many things like a camping wardrobe, decent chairs etc.

we have got rid of SIM's and airbeds and bought camp beds, they have made an enormous difference to my quality of life (we store stuff under them)

No I am cheating in a poshish motorhome - but DH is old ish & disabled so we can't do actual camping (hospital aren't keen on this tbh, but...)

I love my collapsible washing up bowl & he adores the collapsible draining boards (yes 2 one for after washing then one for once they have been rinsed)

The bin situation is driving me wild & I'm not sure about the mattress yet!

Lakeland drying mats are great for containing the drips from washing up ( which doesn't always fit on the tiny draining rack/board.
Replace the shower head with one with a trigger, saves you loads of water each shower.
A roll of non slip matting to line your cupboards. Also a piece between each plate stops the rattling.
Collapsible washing line.
Tefal Ingenio pans that nest inside the oven.
A solar panel
A refillable lpg tank

We got a tiny pedal bin that gets put out at each stop and lives by the door.

We use one of those pop-up garden waste bins for a bin - just clothes peg a bin bag to it and it stays upright and folds down small. But we tent camp so slightly different needs. I like things that collapse small - bins, bowls, kettles, etc

We're in a tent, but for a bin we use bread bags or similar, hung on the side of the kitchen unit or similar. About the right size for a day if there's also recycling. I prefer to change the bin more when camping as I find it keeps wasps/flies etc to a minimum. They're also 'free' and a good way of using some plastic more than once.

My other fav gadgets/hacks which just make life a little more
fun/easier:

*A cobb
*A storm kettle- Kelly kettle or a ghillie kettle
*Big pegs from Lakeland
*A baby feeding bottle- ideal for measuring liquids or keeping salad dressings in.
*A metal tin for matches- we cut out and stick the striker thing to the top. Keeps them dry.
*Tenacious tape, duct tape, electrical tape, cable ties and WD40.
*2 hammocks (tied to trees)
*set of tiffin boxes

• a loo- bucket with a lid

Was tempted by the bog in a bag for a nano second but can't see how DD would use it with DH and DS still around.

Our cooking grill is a must! We bought it from campfirecookinggrill.co.uk 😀

Isn't the bog in a bag about £1.00 a wee?

A good portable BBQ, I love our Weber Go-Anywhere, for grilling or cooking with the lid on.

Or campfire grill or tripod for cooking over a campfire/ fire pit.

A self inflating matress - I have just got back from a week camping on a 10cm Vango - ££££ but worth every penny
