have cleverly decided to organise a mad lentil weavers camp this summer. prob in term time cos us weirdos don't send our kids to school

I'm sure theres one up the road from newport with chickens, and naff all in the way of facilities, but can't find it on ukcamping

Max distance from cardiff needs to be about an hour, since there are several families with +3000 kids so dads need to come and commute from campsite to work.

failing that, does anyone know of a friendly organic farmer with a field?

your thoughts?

Hi fillyjonk, I live in one of the said S.Wales valleys! The Afan valley to be exact. Not sure how many facilities etc you're after but the Afan Forest Park has a field for camping - it's about 5mins from me. We're about 50mins from Cardiff and 35 mins from Swansea (and thus the Gower Peninsular). The valley is known as 'little Switzerland' because of our beautiful fir forests, and we are a mecca for mountain bikers if any of your party ride. In fact we're listed as one of the top ten places in the world to 'ride before you die'. If you're interested then if you let me know what facilities you need I can do a little detective work 'round these parts.

icebat · 07/02/2007 10:21

PS we're 15mins off the M4 for commuting.

Fillyjonk · 07/02/2007 10:34

oh that sounds good icebat

yes have googled and it looks rather good.

here

i love the valleys and this is just a blatant excuse for me to spend a week in them...

amynnixmum · 07/02/2007 10:45

Fillyjonk · 07/02/2007 11:06

That does look like a lovely campsite - but what about 'the one thing wives and girlfriends asked for were conventional toilets' - do they only allow women as appendages to men, then?

Fillyjonk · 07/02/2007 11:20

wheres that zofloya, can't find it. which site?

OP posts:
sorkycake · 07/02/2007 11:22

I'd be up for a l/w holiday Filly, never been to Wales before! Well except for that time Dh & I got lost trying to come out of Oswestry once and passed a sign that said "Welcome to Wales" on it, then around the bend to join the motorway, not 30 seconds later, "Thank you for visiting Wales". Needless to say we POSL

KTeePee · 07/02/2007 13:44

Not technically in Wales but I once stayed on a lovely site in the Wye valley (English side) with fabulous views but very basic facilities (might have been on a farm...) It was on a back road between Chepstow and Tintern - I think we found it because it was shown on the road atlas. Don't know if it is still there.....

Lucycat · 07/02/2007 14:32

zoffloya - perhaps the men couldn't string enough words together to make a coherent sentence?

so as per it's left to the intelligent lot to say what we want, and I do have to agree, a toilet is a good idea!

MrsBadger · 07/02/2007 14:39

I think it'll be too far west, but I can recommend this one near Tenby...

Fillyjonk · 07/02/2007 18:47

that one might be ok, actually. am looking. I think it is too far west but...pick your own...

sorky-seriously? Its very much in the early stages but you'd be very welcome. Give me an email if you want and I'll keep you [email protected]

(its a home-edders / AP camp aiming to especially cater for under 7sish if that helps...not that over 7s are not welcome, just that we want to go at the pace of the younger kids and put stuff on for them, most camps don't really, IMO, or if they do its a bit of colouring and pasting, not rowdy music and shouty games which is what my kids seem to like . Oh and not nearly enough knitting...)

Fillyjonk · 07/02/2007 18:48

PeachyClair · 07/02/2007 20:03

the first link won't work- so here is the address www.stayinwales.co.uk/detail.cfm?i=4029

if that doesn't work, go to the stayinwales site above, search usk and the campsites are there.

Seriously thinking of whipping my boys to that site sometime, only about 5 miles and looks excellent fun!
