we bought a cheap tent last year on ebay which was fab however we didnt count on having another baby for this years trips. Camping is the only way we can afford a break so need a cheap tent that I can save up for but not exceeding £150 as that would be wayy too much for us. ideally would like: 2 or 3 sleeping sections
Good height on living area.
Able to fit a travel cot in as will have a 1yr old, 3yr old and DB who is due next week.
Also not too huge when packed as have a renault scenic but will have all back seat full of car seats and double pram and travel cot in boot on top of normal camping bits.

Think that is all I require and am hoping to make around £40 for the tent we bought last year so any ideas????????

we went to one of the tent exhibitions in the lakes, although you might get a good deal now online as it is out of season and bought an outwell that sleeps five for about £150 and it is fab.

twinsetandpearls..would it fit a travel cot in one of the sleeping sections? Ds sleeps in a readybed when we camp and last year with DD she slept on a mat in a vango sleeping bag so can do that again for DB. Its more containing DD who will be around 16mths plus when we want to go.

yes there is a sleeping section for three and one for two or it can be made into one huge section if you prefer.

Hi Nemo, we've got a Lichfield Arapaho Vis a Vis (or something like that) sleeps 6 with a good size living area DH can stand up in and 2 reasonable bedroom spaces in which he can lie down. DH is very tall so these things are important, and many of the tents we looked at were too small for him to lie down.
No idea how it packs up in comparison to other tents though. Bought it online a couple of years ago for £140 or so.
Last year we camped next door to a couple with three kids, including one four month old baby, whom they had sleeping between the couple. Our bedrooms are big enough for three single airbeds in a row - so I wonder if that would work instead of a travel cot? (sorry, too long ago to remember what it's like to have a baby so apologies if that's a daft idea)

This is ours. Plenty of room for you I'd think.

We are 2 adults and 3 children (soon to be 4!). DH is 6 ft and can stand up in the middle.

Oh and really easy to put up.

We saw lots of those when we went camping which is a good sign!

Oooh, that looks quite good actually - good living space. Do you mind sleeping under the eaves though, so to speak? I insist on having my feet under the slopey bit, so I don't have to climb over DH to get out, so not quite big enough for us, but I do like the idea of the sewn in groundsheet. Keeps a lot of drafts out I guess.

I am looking for a tent too. We had a frame tent which unfortunately blew over the car as we were taking it down this summer bending all the poles. Was a lovely Sun camp 6 berth.

However, it was hard to put up and took over an hour so we are going for one of them round bendy type ones next.

I need one that can take a double blow up, single ready bed and a travel cot. I want us all to sleep in the same bit though. Will watch this with interest.

i think ppl have different choice. i like dframe tent rather than those domey little tents. but they are expensive, but they are worth it.

thanks all..think the need for travel cot is essential though as couldnt trust DD to sleep on a airbed as she is a fidget. Which also means she probably wouldnt fit into a sleeping area with DS. Of course DB will be in with us as will only be 5mths old or so on first trip.

Frame tents are fab for rainy hols too. But a good one costs a fortune which I don't have right now so a cheaper one is on cards at the mo.

last other ppl all had dome tent, some looked odd, somepeople just build them up doesnt matter it looks right or not. ppl stayed by our side, had giant dome tent, it took all their pitch. its door does up like parasol and its was so odd to go out and in the car. dh hated them. the tent looked alright from frot but from side it looked like going to fall over. it raned one nigt, and next moring they were all wet, there were wet sleeping abgs and pillows and te da wasnt good and they couldnt sleep int hose wet bags, they packed and went, felt sorry fot hem, couple with 3 kids under 10isj. so good tent is worth. we enjoyed it even it rained, had lobby for tea, and hot toddy and warm aple pie.

I have just had a quick glance on Ebay, most of the tents on there have separate sleeping compartments. I need one with a big bedroom.

We could buy some new poles for our frame tent I spose.

Forgot to add, Nemo, agree about cost. We had a week at camber sands last year with med style weather (was like being abroad) for 52.00 pitch for the week.

UCM sometimes you can just not do up the divider between the sleeping compartments and just have one, that is what we do withours.

Yes, T&P I was wondering whether or not they were fixed. Was imagining myself with a pair of scissors & a stapler

I was looking through an old camping thread last night and found a good site from Peachy, Essex Camping, which quite nicely isn't too far from us. Methinks a trip up there is due next week.

Nemo, I know you probably won't be around for a while to check this but I found this tent on ebay it's very similar to our Outwell, but half the price.

it looks as though the bedroom compartments have one of those toggle fastening divider sheets, we roll ours up during the day and down at night to give soem sort of privacy.

They seem to have loads so you can keep an eye out for one that is a decent price!

We went all the way to Essex Camping today as was bored about 40 mins either way.

It was closed DH wasn't very happy as he wondered why I hadn't checked their opening times. Tee Hee (actually I wondered why I didn't too)

So I think I will be looking at that Ebay blokey you recommended for a bit longer Lucy.
