Anyone been here. It looks nice enough, but.....wouldn't mind a recommendation

Have been to Camber Sands loads of times - but not the holiday park so can't really help.

But it's a lovely beach. Although I have noticed it's a lot busier now (but I am comparing to many years ago)

WellKnownMemorablePeachyClair · 29/06/2006 19:12

Now never been to camber Sands but regularly go to other Holiday aprks in the same group.

Hopefully, combined with the other review it'll be OK.

We love Park resorts. I know some people find it a bit butlins-esque but its not, its just enough that theres something for the kids if you want, but easy to avoid if you don't. To me, that's perfect- actually we're off on our 4th park resort holiday in three weeks (yay- nodes Point) if that's a good enough review LOL!

I've heard only good things about Camber Sands but why not try UKcampsites for mroe reviews.

Martini · 29/06/2006 23:22

I'd love to hear about Nodes POint. As a child we always used to holiday at the Priory Hotel which is now super luxury and far too expensive for us but as a kid was run by a company called "workers travel association" - lets keep the red flag flying there etc. Anyway its next to Nodes Point and higlight of the week waS always the cricket match against the "noddies".

Since have had kids have revisited Priory Bay and St Helens and looked at Nodes Point thinking - yup thats a great place for a holiday.

SO would really love to hear what its like. We have ds 4 & dd 2 - would it suit them?

I have looked on UKcampsites and the later reviews are promising. We are going next week. It was a last minute thing. Wanted to go to Cornwall but DH has booked in for an MOT on Monday and he doesn't want to go that far for 5 days. Hrmph....I will put a review on there when I come back and on here.

I used to live over there & my best friends parents live in a big house where the cafe is & a little parade of beach stores on the beach front., they own the cafe, i spent most of my growing years over there, the beach is lovely & sandy, not sure about the site now but when i lived there we used to spend many a weekend over there & loved it. I think you will like it there

WellKnownMemorablePeachyClair · 30/06/2006 09:29

Martini- we have three ds's, 5 6 and almost 3, they love it. We have stayed in a caravan up to now, but a tent this year. The pool is nice, but its right (literally right) on that beautiful beach, so we spend most of our time there- its lovely and clean, and not really commericalised, which we love. Well, it's our third visit to the Island (4th to aprk resorts, second to Nodes) so it must be OK! The kids love the entertainment too, although we limit it and go 50 / 50 entertainment which seems to uit everyone. The prices aren't bad eithr really, a week high season (end Jult), all facilities included, camping for us lot (no EHU) £179, not bad really.

UCM · 30/06/2006 09:54

Forgot to add for 5 nights 56.00 Whoopeee

We own a static caravan there - shame you're not there this weekend as we could talk about AuPairs over a drink! You'll love it - we spent last weekend on the beach and plan to do the same this weekend. The site has had a lot of redevelopment this year and I'm not surprised the later reviews are promising. The new boathouse restaurant is great and the entertainment is good - the kids will love Sparkey, Narky and Sparkle.

If you want some good home cooked food, try the Camber Castle - the chef has just reached the final of a Best Pie competition.

WellKnownMemorablePeachyClair · 30/06/2006 13:04

Not.....

Spraky

aaargghhhh
(sorry ds2 has a Sparky with him 24 /7 and is convinced Dh is narky in disguise LOL)

MrsRecycle · 30/06/2006 13:21

lol - Yes I said to dd2 (5) the other day that Sparky (however you spell it!) was coming to owners breakfast and she said - "he's not real you know!"

UCM · 30/06/2006 13:59

Sounds great, would have been great to see you. I am really looking forward to it now.

Oh my boys think he is very, very real! LOL!

We have in this house: 2 sparky (SP!) stuufed toys; 2 badges plus countless other assorted items.

On a BIG pro park resorts note, we e-mailed them to tell them about how much DS2 loves Sparky, as DS2's request. (think it was a bribe fr something or other). Anyway, we also added about DS2 getting a very hard time from DS1 (who has SN). When we got to the site, there was a note for DS2 from Sparky and he came to the caraven with gifts for the boys

Oh yes - every weekend I get "can we go to Dymchurch"

Rickman if you don't want the booking-in hassle you can always rent our van. There are no time restrictions - you can be there at 10am if you want and leave in the evening. Next time you want to book, contact me. We only book to friends and people we know but I count Mumsnet amongst them!

MrsRecycle · 30/06/2006 16:27

Peachy - what a lovely story - must remember it for bribery for dd2.

We got Sparky to come to our friend's teenagers BBQ and embarras her. Although his favourite meal is chocolate carrots, he much preferred the burger and beer

UCM · 30/06/2006 17:21

Mrs Recycle, I wish I'd known that. I would have loved to book it.

How much do you charge for a week around about now.

Well I am tenting it, and admittedly the reviews on UKcampsite were not as good as the later ones. So the accomodation won't be a problem as it's my own. I will be putting my own review on here. But if it's rubbish. Then I only spent 56.00

I am really excited to be visiting Rye & Hastings as I have never been. Also looking forward to a sandy beach as I live on the beach on the essex coast and it's terribly stony.

Sadly I have already managed to find a Craft shop in Bexhill, which DH is a bit disgusted about

We went 8 years ago, it was awful then as I recall. Our chalet was filthy; grill pan full of grease and full ash trays etc greeted us so we weren't able to unpack til quite late. I also remember the swimming pool was closed on our last day there, for no apparent reason.

MrsRecycle · 03/07/2006 10:15

Sorry haven't got back to you ladies have just spent a wonderful weekend there - didn't want to leave!

Camber Sands was awful before it got brought by Park Resorts (last year). It has completely changed now and you will not recognise it. If your experience was bad when it was owned by GB Holiday Parks, I'd recommend a visit now it's owned by Park Resorts. It is indeed their flagship resort now.

UCM - you could have had it for this week (7 nights) for £330 as we're not going down there this weekend . The beach is lovely - you'll spend most of your time there (and you've got the weather for it). Hastings is okay but very expensive for the rides. I love Dymchurch - old fashioned rides but great for younger kids (and a lot cheaper than Hastings).

Rickman - I'm planning on having most of August there but the middle week of August (around 14th)might be free as I'll be having ds that week (unless he has other ideas). I'll know more in 3 weeks time so can give you definitive dates then. My Mum thinks I'm mad, planning to go straight back to the caravan after I've just had a baby but I can't think of anything better!
