Recommendations for camp sites in North Wales?

I'm getting bogged down with all the internet sites tbh, and I like the idea of going somewhere that's already been road tested Wink

I need somewhere that's not too expensive (we have a big tent, and I notice a lot of places are charging extra for that now) I have an 8, 6 and 2.5 yr old, so secure would be good as would a playground (but not essential as we'll be out and about) I really don't want somewhere with a clubhouse, or other entertainment (tends to equal noisy people late at night ime and we wouldn't use it anyway) Following on from that somewhere that's quite good at enforcing quiet after 10 or 11pm. We're happy just with the usual little shop/loos/hot showers/wash up stuff. Ooh, and we're toying with going electric this year so a hook up point would be good Grin

Thanks in advance!

I will be able to tell you what the Forestry Comission site is like in Beddgelert after the half term break.

It has the faciliteis you list and doesn't have noisy club house. It does have a play ground. They do have EHU link ups.

Our tent is 7 by 3 and they didn't have a problem with it.

I'm just hoping that we ger some reasonable weather next week!

Have a look at the reviews on UKcampsite website, they are written by campers, very useful

Riverside camping outside Caernarfon ticks all your boxes too.
Lots of room,a playground,a river, immaculate loos/showers, convenient for everywhere no naff entertainment apart from a lovely converted mill that is now a restaurant/cafe.
Attached to a very civilised garden centre.
Hang on,I'll do a link.

We're going \link{http://www.eisteddfa.fsnet.co.uk/\here next week} so I'll let you know what it's like, we like similar things to you and our tent is the same size as mb's (well it's the same tent actually [wink}. We also have booked electricity.

We seriously thought about the riverside site moondog but dd2 knows no fear when it comes to water so maybe next year!

LucyCampCat · 21/05/2006 10:17

oh Wink! I'm planning a raid on mb's site to leave a picture of a baton her tent! How many Outwell Colorado 8's do you think there will be? Grin

LucyCampCat · 21/05/2006 10:18

baton ????? bat on....... grr sunday morning and I'm wading through the camping stuff in the shed trying to work out just what we need for next week and it's fuddling my brain!

serenity · 21/05/2006 11:04

Lucycampcat- that's one I got on our shortlist, so it will be great to know what it's actually like, thanks.

MB - look forward to hearing how your holiday went too. We've got a 12 berth tent (i wonder sometimes how they come up with these figures as 12 people sleeping in our tent would be a nightmare holiday) and it seems to be anything over 8 berth is getting hit with an extra charge Angry

MD - it was a link you did to Riverside on another thread that made me decide to go to N Wales this year! However they are one of the sites that will charge us an extra £5 a night (which would make it something like £27 a night for us - too expensive) It's a pity because it looks lovely. I emailed them some questions a while ago, so I'll see what the outcome of that is before I definitely rule them out.

Come join the PondLife campers. Grin You'd love it. More importantly dd will love it, and will give you an easier time as a esult. Think of the smell of fresh ground coffe in the morning. The gently pop and hiss of the bottle of bubbly at night as you tuck into you smoked salmon. LOL!

peachyClair · 21/05/2006 14:23

There's a park resorts in north wales (Cardigan Bay)- just type park resorts into the search bar. The website isn't too full of camping but if you phone they'll tell you and our experiences with them have been fabulous. I think a week in IOW in peak costs £179 so not pricey imo.

peachyClair · 21/05/2006 14:27

Oh and Sally

finished my last exam last Tuesday, back in October (if I pass- had a bit of a mind blank)

Grinmany weeks of camping ahead, we unpacked the tahoma Friday and it looks fab. And of course there's my Cath Kidston chair.........

perhaps I should find a bat pic for us to fly on our flags? hang on......
