Holland's Wood was great first week of Easter hols, not cramped at all (hardly anyone there). It was blardy freezing though and I'm glad we had a camper van!
Heading to somewhere near Oxford May Day weekend to meet up with my dsis and her family, plus my cousin, as it's pretty much equidistant for all of us. Will camp in the New Forest back garden, East Sussex and possibly around Lulworth Cove too.

We've got a week at May half term booked at Deer's glade in Norfolk, which looks lovely and will be a new area to explore for us!

We're thinking of a week at longthorns in Dorset in the summer hols, lisad123 - is this the one you've been to? Would you recommend it? I read some reviews that said the shower block wasn't great and I do like a nice hot shower, it's one of my few non-negotiables!!

We were thinking of a few nights in the New Forest at a site we went to a few years back called Red Shoot on our way to the IOW. Had a cracking microbrewery next door. Anyone been more recently?

For weekends we were thinking a bit more local so as not to spend too much time travelling. Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire is always a hit if you like cycling

MrsShrek and Grockle we live in Jersey and there are two campsites here. Beauvelande and Rozel campsite. The are both nice and both have pools. Beauvelande has a restaurant too. We go for a weekend to both over the summer and always have a fab time. Plus we can go home if it rains! Both sites have statics or you can take your own tent or caravan

We were looking at Beauvelande for our summer hols (before we booked for France) but it didn't seem to have a great reputation, quite a few reports said it was rowdy?

Were going to trellyn! Which i'm uber excited about. I'm looking for another similar type of site...if anyone knows of one....pretty please.

Not keen on camping close to others.

lisad123, we went to Eweleaze 2 years ago and we loved it. The size of the site meant that tents weren't cramped together. Camp fires are allowed,the farmer will deliver hay bales, which we made a sofa out of to sit round the fire. Our children queued for the bread in the morning and didn't mind, so we got to have a shower and get the rest of breakfast on the go.

Our children's favourite things were the giant water butts and haystacks that were in each field for them to play with. They spent hours rolling each other round inside the butts . They made loads of friends, swam in the sea on the (pebbly, but with loads of fossils) adjacent beach and had a fantastic time.

We found there was a sort of 'festival' vibe to the place, because lots of people were there in groups and also I think, because it's not a permanent site, it's only open for a month a year, so no posh toilet blocks!

The on-site food was lovely (all organic too), but very expensive!

Colleysmill - we are going to the Red Shoot Inn for lunch tomorrow, I shall check out the microbrewery for you

Lisad123 - I think you would love Eweleaze . The pitches are unmarked so you can pitch wherever you like, as close to or as far away from your neighbours are you like. When we were there, all the kids were in bed from sunset to sunrise, even the screechy ones, hurrah!

I live in Guernsey. Have done a few one-night camp overs at Fauxquets Valley which I would highly recommend (so long as the location suited you - its not central!)

Would Eweleaze be a good place to go for a single parent with 2 children under 5?

How expensive is the food?

The food at Ewleaze is VERY expensive and the site is absolutely massive - I wouldn't take two under 5s there on my own as it would be too easy to lose them. There are fields and fields and fields .... You would have to supervise them 24/7 - it's not the sort of campsite where you can send them off to the playground on their own and you can watch from the safety of your tent. W let DS and DD (then aged 8 and 5) go off on their own together to pre-agreed points on the campsite, on condition that they stayed together ..... They went off for HOURS and loved it but they could have been anywhere.

Meg Beauvelande isn't rowdy. Nowhere on Jersey is rowdy

Thinking of taking the IL's caravan to either Pembrokeshire or the SW for a couple of weeks in the summer but need to have a think about where to camp. We didn't use our little tent at all last summer, but did have a lovely week in Northumberland in the big tent.
Any suggestions for somewhere within a couple of hours drive of West Yorkshire?

It's a basic site, but the location (literally in the middle of the new forest) is brilliant.

Does anyone have recommendations for finding basic (ie budget!) sites in Europe? The kind of sites without swimming pools and activities, but that do have loos and showers?

We're just going to do 1 0r 2 nights in the desert in the UAE when we can fit them in.

You could consider the Northdown site at Eweleaze. This site only has 2 large fields although there isn't a playground as such, more of a gathering at the haybales. Didn't buy food there so can't comment on that but the showers were better than we thought. They are in an individual wooden shed thing (like a portaloo) where there is plenty of space to get dressed, and the showers were warm. The website says they are solar powered but I think there is a little bit of gas help going on.

Thanks mrsmcenroe it was about 5 years ago we stayed there (and before dc!) but remember it being a nice site and a great pub!

We'll be going to Forgewood in Kent as usual for at least one weekend and possibly Breck Farm in Norfolk. I need to look for some new places too that allow fires in South East.
