Okay we have the \link{http://www.wildday.co.uk/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=2168\tent}, we haven't put it up yet but assuming that that's no problem I need stuff to put in it. We have nothing. But! We have booked a campsite for 5 days in June.
So where to start? Any tips, ideas? Where is the best place to get stuff?
There is dh, a toddler and a newborn to think of.

Isn't it time I started getting excited?

We have a tent with 3 pods and a middle area. Dh and I sleep in the middle, we store stuff in another and dd[5] sleeps in another and the dogs in the other. Phew!

MrsDoolittle · 15/03/2006 22:05

Lucy - do you have a groundsheet?
I'd be tempted to sleep in the middle if we did.

OP posts:
lucy5 · 15/03/2006 22:06

Yes we bought groundsheets, I couldnt sleep in the pod because Im claustrophobic.

MrsDoolittle · 15/03/2006 22:07

Sorry - I meant a sewn in groundsheet?

OP posts:
MrsDoolittle · 15/03/2006 22:08

Err obviously you don't. Doh Blush

I only ask because the sewn in ones are supposed to be warmer and keep out the rain.

I think there is a sewn in groundsheet, i'll have to check with dh. The other thing I have just remembered is check your tent pegs. The ones that came with ours were flimsy and we had to buy more from the camping shot, we always take a mallet too as where we camp the ground is quite hard and we always lend it to half the camp site.

Freddiecat · 15/03/2006 22:12

lucy5 what tent have you got - sounds like ours!

lucy5 · 15/03/2006 22:13

We bought a groundsheet too, but I cant remember exactly how we fit it, well dh fits it. We use it near the tent opening to try and keep the dust out. Tarifa is very windy!

lucy5 · 15/03/2006 22:14

Im not sure what it's called I bought it in Carrefoure, it's a cheapy one. Supposed to be 6 man but it would be a squash. Its grey and orange, it's a great tent.

Freddiecat · 15/03/2006 22:17

we've got a 12 person one similar style i think.

ooh a tip i remembered. take a £2 inflatable paddling pool from tesco to use as a bath for kids (downside is they want to have a bath every day and run around naked)

lucy5 · 15/03/2006 22:19

Paddling pool is a great idea, we used to bath dd in the washing up bowl when she was smaller.

Freddiecat · 15/03/2006 22:20

Have got a photo of DS in a washing up bowl!

Blandmum · 16/03/2006 06:41

Oh and get a cheap wash bag and kit it out as your 'loo' bag, toilet roll, soap and a small hand towel.....saves faffing roung trying to find the things when you need then!

Nice tent btw!

lucy5 · 16/03/2006 07:42

I also recommend putting up the tent before you go. We didnt and it took us ages to find a campsite, tarifa is very busy in August. We arrived in the dark and it took about an hour and a half to put up, as we didnt know what we were doing. We were surrounded by seasoned campers who loked on in horror. We had a very windy night as we hadnt put it up properly and we had pitched it on a slope and every time dh turned over he rolled and his feet poked out of the bottom! Blush

Grin (still funny a day later)
bubblerock · 22/03/2006 09:24

I have gone and bought a tent!! ShockIt's not a posh one so I really hope it will be okay, I figured we wouldn't be able to afford a holiday so if we had a tent (got it with my birthday money) then we could take off for a couple of days here and there. I still need to get the basics but I did manage to get cheap sleeping bags for the boys and we already have 2 new airbeds.

\link{http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8780453893\this is the tent}

\link{http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Browse/catalogId/4501/identifier/7904986/Trail/C%24cip%3D36237%3EC%24cip%3D36876%3EC%24cip%3D36888.htm\boys £2.99 sleeping bags}

I only have a yard so won't be able to practise putting the tent up so I'm going to look like a right wally on our first outing!

Kathy1972 · 22/03/2006 09:29

Yay, congratulations on your new tent Bubblerock - it looks dead good - what a bargain!
You might want to take some extra bedding in case the sleeping bags are a bit thin.

Happy camping!

bubblerock · 22/03/2006 09:34

Thanks Kathy Grin - I was wondering whether to take the duvets too, won't have room in the car for the kids by the time I have all my home comforts in there! Smile

lucy5 · 22/03/2006 09:35

Tent looks great! We spread duvets out on back seat and sit on them, so they don't take up valuable boot space.

bubblerock · 22/03/2006 09:55

That's a good idea! Smile

scotchlass · 22/03/2006 10:02

Lucy5 you are definately well practised! I couldn't camp without my stuff sack pillow, they are about £5 but are worth every penny. Also I don't know about anyone else but I don't take any jeans camping as they are a nightmare if they get wet. Just not worth it! Hope everyone has a great summer camping!

tarantula · 22/03/2006 10:14

I'd def take extra bedding BR. Most of the cheaper sleeping bags are made for indoor/very hot summer use and are very thin. Bloody good bargain tho. Might have to get some of those myself at that price. theyd be great for sleepovers.
