Not a pop up.

Must have a porch are where we can leave back packs.

As many vents as possible.

As many doorways/openings with mesh screens possible.

Good HH

have you tried looking on ukcampsite. They have a review section for tents which may help.

The Robens one looks good.

kahlua4me · 12/06/2012 21:05

What about the Terra-Nova Monsoon 4? It's light, only 4.9 and has a porch

difficultpickle · 12/06/2012 21:59

I love that man on the Robens video. I didn't realise that Robens and Outwell were the same company until Scottish man popped up doing his stuff on both Grin

Slubber I can't imagine you camping by train (is MollieO here)!

Slubberdegullion · 13/06/2012 10:14

bisjo he does the vids for their other tent company too. EasyCamp I think. I love him too. So masterful with his mesh doors and storm system poles. Yy trains around France is plan for next year but think I might have a stab of doing it with the dds this summer in the UK if the weather ever improves

Off to check out the terra nova. Ta kahlua.

gawd camping by train is such a slog, will you have bikes?

Slubberdegullion · 13/06/2012 13:10

Hope to hire them there. We want to do 2+ sites (Paris + Euro Disney + prob south of France) none of us want to be stuck in a car for all that driving and multiple flights will cost ££ + endless hanging about in airports which is a pita. That and we love train journeys.

It's either take our own stuff and go superminimalist and eat out or go eurocamp and the like (OMG the prices Shock) and self cater (boo).

Why do you say it's a slog Caerl? Is it a really bad idea?

Slubberdegullion · 13/06/2012 13:12

Have totally ballsed up my own criteria by looking fondly at the Vango Force 10 mk 5. We could split up the bits to lighten the load. Love the retro ridge tents of my youth AND it's canvas.

OP posts:
Caerlaverock · 13/06/2012 13:16

can't imagine carting all the stuff around, used to flly drive with h and a small tent. that was great fun probably not possible now that easy jet etc penalise you for carrying more than your underpants.

what about the cobb? will it lie unloved weeping in your shed with the mice or will you wear it on your head?

Slubberdegullion · 13/06/2012 13:39

Grin Grin. I will take the Cobb on a special outing before we go and then send it postcards.
Dh and I backpacked/camped/youth hostelled around Oz many many moons ago so I know I can do it, and now the dds are older and continent they can carry their own bloody stuff. We just need to take less stuff, much less stuff, and how liberating is that!
As I am currently laid out on the floor with back and leg pain after an injury I am almost certain I sustained whilst taking down a stupid canvas tent and lugging all 24kg of it about in a hurry I am thinking loving thoughts about only having one bag with some pants, a toothbrush, a kindle and a little light weight tent in.

tis i btw (the obese american president)

we are planning epic trip from scotland to south(ish) france this year

Caerlaverock · 13/06/2012 13:44

LOVE the vango but on the pricey side

Slubberdegullion · 13/06/2012 14:13

Oh! Oh! I am so happy to see you here. I have missed you here in camping.

the vango new is silly price but quite a few on eBay atm. Waking up bathed in orange glow would fill you with joy and vim don't you think?

Tell me about your epic trip. Chez van yes? I need cheering up with travelling plans. Am miserable with pain atm.

Oh and btw had a rl Cobb vs Cadac event last week. and I thought of you I did and smiled a knowing smile.

Caerlaverock · 13/06/2012 14:19

Let me clutch you to my bosom and infuse you with my love!

Sorry you are in pain, I am hobbling about since September with running relate injury.

Where you converted by the wonders of the cardiac? I must order a roasting tray.

We are taking 3 weeks and foolishly thinking of doing Dover Calais in the van. Van is being serviced as we speak due to a refusal 2 weeks ago on the highest road in Britain. I really want to get to tarn but might be overly ambitious.

Vango does not have aforementioned porch facility and as much as I love cotton tents polyester is prob more practical for carrying.

KalSkirata · 13/06/2012 14:20

I got a Vango but cant recall its make. Its 3 berth but for me and ds They do a 4 berth one.
It fits into a shopping trolley for train camping. Its the sleeping bags that take up the bloody room.

Caerlaverock · 13/06/2012 14:20

Arf at cardiac, cadac . I always hated nobbos and their apple related spelling typos and now I am one

Slubberdegullion · 13/06/2012 14:42

A shopping trolley! On a train! Confused

Oh hang on like an old lady groceries shopping trolley in tartan? Mmm what a good idea for lugging

Nooooo LESS is MORE. Cannot have trolley in Paris. People would point surely.
We have teeny tiny down sleeping bags from before when we were rich and had a disposable income. Fuck you pension fund.

Caer, the Cadac was a most impressive thing I must admit and certainly came into it's own in the shitehouse bastard n Wales gales where my friends succeeded in making an espresso in the morning where I with my camping gaz stove did not. So I take back some of my mockery. They also got it for hot France where charcoal bbqs are Non! Verboten!

Soz to hear about running injury, and poor old van. Dover-Calais such a bargainous price though. If only Dover were closer.... And the south of France come to think of it.

KalSkirata · 13/06/2012 14:56

yup. cos its on wheels. Rucksack on back with clothes. Shopping trolley containing all camping gear. Dog tangling itself round all of it.
I am old. I dont care what it looks like.

Slubberdegullion · 13/06/2012 15:02

I am old too but but a trolley in gay Paree and sur Le SNCF?
It's a fecking genius idea if I can get past the concept of owning a trolley.

2 or 4 wheels? 2 wheels are more youthful non?

OP posts:
KalSkirata · 13/06/2012 15:27

2 wheels. You can buy what looks like large rucksacks on 2 wheels with a handle if you cant cope with the shopping trolley idea. This year I will be even more fetching as I will have a buggy to place rucksack in and pull my shopping trolley. Disc issues and spondylitis have knackered my back to a degree the surgeons want to do a spinal fusion. But its now camping season.

dumdedah · 13/06/2012 15:33

Trolley sounds like a great idea - just having that extra bit of weight on wheels and not your back. On trains Parisians would presume you had a tall, narrow dog in there and not bat an eyelid.

oldteacher · 13/06/2012 16:20

We have the monsoon- had it when we were a couple and could really spread out but have managed with 5 children. It is super light, and very easy to put up, goes up inner first so you have to be quick if it's rainy. The porch size is really very good, DH and I used to have low camping chairs and be able to sit in it, plus we have had 2 bikes and stuff in there too. There is also a very tiny porch space out the back. The front certainly has a mesh opening but can't remember if the back has for airflow, the door can be opened in a way that allows a little bit of airflow but not ground insects. You would be welcome to borrow ours but I think the 2003 heatwave affected the HH a bit, we did reproof it but I tended to cover things left in the porch with an extra groundsheet when heavy rain was due as a precaution.

ChippyMinton · 13/06/2012 16:25

I'm flying with 3DC and leaving DH behind and have vair spacious trolley/holdall thingummy

Tomjoules · 13/06/2012 16:53

What you really need in gay paree is one of these:

www.practicalcycles.com/page49.htm

This is what the chic Parisian mamans wearing Agnes b pop their super chic bebes into to bring them to school.

Don't ask me how I know ;)

Tomjoules · 13/06/2012 16:54

And if you scroll down that page .... Imagine it. How fab is that.

(I will share our two man hiking Tent at some point, but will be busy enjoying the tent leg rubbing with you all first).

Slubberdegullion · 13/06/2012 17:19

Kal you are the trail blazer here. The whole shopping trolley angle has opened up a new world of opportunities (aka Cobb transport).

Arf @ tall narrow dog dumdedah.

Oldteacher that is such a kind offer, thank you Smile. Wish their website had a video with large man entering into the tent to get a sense of the space. bikes in the porch sounds promising though. Could you fit a shopping trolley in the porch?

Tom, you need one of your Paris child bikes that then does this and jobs a goodun.

Wotcha Chippy. Tell me more, where are you going, and how, and why, with Cadac?
