Did Brittany umm let me check which one we did
Point ST Gilles which is not Northern its Western
had a great time in a tent- although we went during the last world cup and other folks in the mobile homes were really noisy riff raff so stick with ten folk :

We went for the first time last year and had a fantastic time. We went to Fouesnant which is Western Brittany too and it was lovely. We didn't go with Eurocamp though, we were going to book with Canvas but ended up with Matthews holidays and got a caravan for the same price as a tent with Canvas, thanks to a recommendation from Milliways. Matthews have a forum which is worth a read. matthews holidays

Milliways · 22/02/2006 20:27

Hello SurferMum! - where are u going this year?

AlexMum, we have been to Domaine de Kelaine (with Haven/Siblu - fab sight).

Lots of recommendations received for Beg Meil. L'Atlantique. Check out the Matthew site.

We are going all the way down to the Med this year, to La Sirene, can't wait

Surfermum · 22/02/2006 20:34

Hey Milliways! We're going to the Clarys Plage in the Vendee this year, with Matthews again. Thought we'd venture further south for some better weather. How about you?

Alexsmum - the site we went to was the one Milliways mentioned, Atlantique.

Surfermum · 22/02/2006 20:35

Oh, ignore that question! You said! Doh!!

Milliways · 22/02/2006 20:40

Surfermum, we were next door at Les Genets last year. You can walk to the beach, or drive, it's straight & free to Park. We also cycled to St Jean des Monts a few times (& drove more). We did the Canoeing trip through the salt plains, (fab), The high ropes (have to book in advance, not just turn up). The BEST was The Grand PArc at Puy de Fou. A long drive and expensive but nothing like it in England. The shows are breathtaking (we only did a day, not the evening show), but was better to drive ourselves & get there when it opened & stay all day, not be confined to coach trip.

We are going here

ps - sorry about the thread hijack!

Tortington · 22/02/2006 20:42

dont use eurocamp for fucks sake.

its the most expensive - unless you think it gets you a better fridge or sommat?

go with venue for the eurotent

or leisure directions for a caravan

nononsense · 22/02/2006 20:43

noooo

alexsmum · 23/02/2006 10:49

we thought eurocamp seemed very reasonable when we compared it with keycamp. We don't know france at all, we just have very little money this year and thought we could maybe get a cheap holiday this way.Eurocamp was recommended by my sister.
We found a holiday for the 4 of us for £355 for 7 days.
will look at the matthews site definitely.
do these prices seem ok?

Look at booking direct on the camp website I have done this for the last couple of years and saved loads. Last year I went to Royann a eurocamp site and saved £600 booking direct. Also use autoroute to plan journey.

Milliways · 23/02/2006 15:39

siblu are cheaper than Keycamp & Eurocamp, Matthews cheaper still but less choice. Some other companies do good deals but restrict you to Saturday/Saturday breaks (which is no good if you need an overnight stop)

alexsmum · 23/02/2006 17:00

myalias, how did you find addresses for the campsite? just been googling and not having much luck?
would you all reccomend atlantique then?
where did you sail to? st malo? or did you drive from calais?

Hi Havent read all the posts but I can really recommend the Hippocampe]/La Sirene site. We have been, dare I say it, 6 times in the last 10 years and it is fab. It has everything and the weather! Nothing worse than camping in cold drizzly climates. The Hippocampe site is better if you have small children as it is small, but a short walk over the road is the larger site and you can use all the facilities. It is also a site where almost all is free once you get there. For example horse riding, archery, crazy golf, tennis, the entertainment at night is a really high standard and not TAcky at all. No hi di hi stuff. Shows such as Cats, Lion King, Blues Brothers - and the staff are the same and very, very friendly. Pools are great. Our children just WONT go anywhere else! The kids clubs are good, but we don't always use them. There are loads of sports for kids too football, games, and the area is really lovely. Some of the companies are much more expensive than Siblu so I would check prices against what time of year you go. Happy hunting!

jumpingjackflash · 23/02/2006 17:29

sorry didnt' tell you where it was ! South of France near the Spanish border - weather always fab!

Blandmum · 23/02/2006 17:31

I was put off Camping l'alantique when I sat in someone elses runny shit in the toilets! Barfarooni!

Pitches are quite small and regimented.

Nice bar/pool complex

Milliways · 23/02/2006 17:48

JumpingJackFlash - you have made my day! All reviews we read were great, but brill to get another! I can't wait till August. One review said that if yiu were at Sirene, could drink in Argeles & get mini train back to campsite up to past midnight Will we see you there?

jumpingjackflash · 23/02/2006 18:07

Hi Milliways! You are going to Sirene then? Guess you are. When are you going in August? I am trying to cook supper so I cannot spend long until later on here. Got to get DS to football practice? What ages are your kids? I can give you some hints on stuff to do, where to go, list is endless! It really is a fab site. Did Scubadiving last year which was great fun. We know most of the staff by first name now as we have been very sad and gone for so many years. We have gone to other sites but cannot find any to compare with this one for value. At a lot of he other sites you have to pay for all the sports etc when you get there but like I said, apart from things like scuba diving the other stuff is free. We like Hippocampe as my kids can walk to the pool etc and we can supervise them a bit more easily as the pool is not so big as La Sirene. But you can switch from pool to pool or at least we did! It is quite good that way so you get the best of both sites!

Sorry if we have hijacked the thread a bit! Help dinner is burning!

Milliways · 23/02/2006 19:10

JJF - We are going late August (with Siblu), got a great deal by booking early & being old customer etc! My children will be 15 & 11 then. Is the horseriding really free?

alexsmum · 23/02/2006 20:04

a hem..got to see was quite keeen on going ina mobile home so would have own bathroom because the idea of using campsite bathrooms for 2 weeks just turns my stomach.
south of france /spanish borer just too far for us.our boys are only 6 and 2 so the riving would be too much.
what did you think of altlantique apart from the loos?
would you reccomend anywhere else?
what about chateau de ormes?

OP posts:
Blandmum · 23/02/2006 20:06

Nice, but very regimented.....tents and 'van all in neat rows with hedges between them.

Good pool facility/pub.

I find the Vendee warmer and less prone to rain as well. Nice part of the world though, Benodet is very nice

alexsmum · 23/02/2006 20:26

i've never been there mb so really shooting in the dark here.
any idea what the weather would be like may/june?
i quite fancy this chateau de ormes site.i've looked on euro camp and i've found it on leisure directions for half the price-can't quite work out why the difference? maybe the mobile homes aren't as nice?

OP posts:
Blandmum · 23/02/2006 20:31

I went in July and it peed with rain for 10 days out of the 12!

OTOH my mate went the next year and had excellent weather. That part of France is the same sort of climate are Cornwall TBH. It isn't that much herre thanin the UK.

If you travel a bit further south to the Vendee you tend to find it a bit warmer as it has a microclimate
