We have to sell our lovely bell tent :(

I posted a while ago about this - we are emigrating and it is breaking my heart to leave our beautiful tent and accessories, but it's not really sensible to ship it over there or to store it until we get back. :(

Do you think it would be best to just put everything separately on Ebay or campsite.co.uk, or might people want the whole kit together? What about pretty lams and stuff?

So sad. :(

How much? Smile

FriendofDorothy · 01/04/2012 22:19

Try ukcampsite.co.uk to sell it all quickly and easily.

DeepThought · 01/04/2012 22:21

loopy pop details up here Smile

LoopyLoopsIsTentativelyBack · 01/04/2012 22:23

Um, I don't know how much yet.

It's a new (last year) 5m Soulpad hybrid ZIG. We also have double sofa bed (v thick, only thing I've ever slept comfortably on, loads of lamps, shepherds crooks, fairy lights etc. No idea how much they depreciate after a couple of uses!

DeepThought · 01/04/2012 22:26

oh dreamy Envy and Sad that you have to get rid

OhBuggerandArse · 01/04/2012 22:26

Erm - what do you do with the shepherds crooks? Are they decorative, or do they have a purpose?

(Clearly I am dull utilitarian and have no idea about glamping)

And does it all fit in the boot of the car?

LoopyLoopsIsTentativelyBack · 01/04/2012 22:31

Ah, the (brand new unbloody opened!) shepherds crooks contain some kid of oil lampage device (I think). We have lots of lights! Other oil lanterns, tea light lanterns etc..

PavlovtheCat · 01/04/2012 22:34

i will have the accessories! bung em this way and I will send you a donation of your choosing Wink. i got the soulpad already. I can see why you are sad.

ohbugger they are for lanterns. stab em in the ground, hand a lantern from it. decorative, yes, but functional too!

LoopyLoopsIsTentativelyBack · 01/04/2012 22:38

It genuinely is the thing that is upsetting me most about emigrating.

OP posts:
OneLieIn · 01/04/2012 22:40

(seriously) how much?

Please let me know, would love to take it all, accessories and everything off your hands.

LoopyLoopsIsTentativelyBack · 01/04/2012 22:40

I'll have to talk to DH about money I think. It was his 30th birthday present. :( I don't know if we're really ready to part with it. But we have to. Oh crap.

We camped 9 days after little DD was born (c-section). I love it. WAAAAHHHHHHHHH :(

We'll have the chat now. Back in a mo.

OP posts:
OhBuggerandArse · 01/04/2012 22:46

I would be v interested too. But do need to know about the does it fit in the back of the car question!

Oh, it does sound sad to have to give something like that up, particularly with all the lovely associations. Are you going to live somewhere exciting? Perhaps there are interesting equivalents there you can look forward to?

LoopyLoopsIsTentativelyBack · 01/04/2012 22:50

It does fit in the car no probs. It's just like a hefty tent bag really, maybe 1.3m x 30cm diameter or something.

We're going to Malaysia. We've been looking into camping there, lots of advice tells us no to bother but if there's any chance we'll use it we'd like to take it. Not lamps though. Shipping will be about £70 to Malaysia. Oh, what to do?!

Whatever happens, you both must get one. Life isn't the same!

DH equally as upset. We can't decide on a price right now sorry, we really need to think this through some more. Sorry for leading you on. :(

OP posts:
LoopyLoopsIsTentativelyBack · 01/04/2012 22:55

Its 102 x 31 x 31

OP posts:
hellymelly · 01/04/2012 22:55

Just out of interest what is the sofa bed thing? Not trying to persuade you to part with yours, but would like to know more as i want something to sleep on that isn't PVc (makes me wheezey). I have the tent already!

LoopyLoopsIsTentativelyBack · 01/04/2012 22:59

Oh, it is PVCish. Like this but flocked not shiny

Have you tried a futon type mattress thing? Heavy but really comfy

OP posts:
hellymelly · 01/04/2012 23:19

I hadn't thought of a futon, partly due to sleeping one one years ago and having terrible back pain. We bought two double airbeds when we got our bell tent but then couldn't sleep in the tent as the beds made me feel light headed and wheezy. The groundsheet is PVC too which doesn't help. I wouldn't have bought it if I'd known actually, SoulPad seemed quite a green company and there was no mention of PVC in the description. PVC is really toxic stuff.

OhBuggerandArse · 01/04/2012 23:20

Oh, don't be sorry. If it's only £70 to get it to Malaysia I would think it would be worth a shot to send it over, no? I wouldn't think it would be much less to courier it to us eager buyers in the UK!

Is it that camping's not really common there so there's no infrastructure, or is it a safety thing?

LoopyLoopsIsTentativelyBack · 01/04/2012 23:30

I think because of the heat (30 constant ish, 20 at night), because accommodation is relatively cheap, and also the added factor of humidity and canvas.
But some lovely MNer on my last thread did find a camping forum for me over there. Contacts all thought I was bonkers though!

It isn't worth sending if we don't use it, as we won't have a garden. With a garden, it would be worth it just for the kids to play in the shade.

£70s not bad though, is it?

OP posts:
OhBuggerandArse · 01/04/2012 23:56

Ah. Mould. I have to say, that's my biggest worry about a bell tent here, too! But our house is very small doesn't have a dedicated tent-drying room, we've no garage, and everywhere we would camp is Very Wet...

xmyboys · 02/04/2012 08:56

I would be interested in buying? Smile

pictish · 02/04/2012 08:58

Awwwwwww Sad

As a fellow bell tenter, I totally feel your pain!

chimchar · 02/04/2012 09:46

gutted you have to get rid of it....

if money and storage are not an issue, i'd take it all with you!

pictish · 02/04/2012 10:43

I would take it too.
I couldn't bear to part with mine, or all the stuff I have for it - rugs, bunting, paraffin lamps, tea light chandelier, camping furniture, fire pit, fairy lights.....ALL of it would have to come with us.
