so I am fed up with the rest of MN (this whole mamazon shite really is the ,last straw), so I am assuming that if any of you are trolling you are showing extraordinary persistence by delving into the thrills of iceytec and are worth chatting to.

So anyway, hi, I am SeaShells, I have 2 dc and have been camping and trapsing through the Great Outdoors all my life. I hang out here as my love of camping is more a love of the countryside and life, and you lot have a similar outlook.

Wet weather-walks, soft play hell and water park up at Tower park (north Poole), tank museum at boddington

Hot weather- ice creams on swanage sea front, kimmeridge bay for fossils/rock pools, studland beach for sand (middle beach is lovely), Bankes Arms in studland for a beer looking at the sea, sea kayaks from the guys on middle beach, brown sea island (ferry from sandbanks)

Eating out-treat yourselves at shell bay for the sunset over Poole harbour

Hope that helps!

Good morning. Oh, all these trips sound so lovely.

We're supposed to leave for Wowo in a couple of hours, but with this weather not sure if we should wait to tomorrow. Sad. I hate how all our weekends seem to turn into overnighters lately, but then again, the idea of pitching in the rain slightly less exciting. Damn.

On cautious children - ds is weird. On some things, he'd be overly cautious, for example climbing over branches or high frames, and would need a lot of encouragement at first. Always great when other children around, but as only child not always the case. Then, on others, he gives me a heart attack. Consistency apparently not big in the vocabulary of a 3 year old!

Should go and pack now in case rain stops during the day. Since its now the in-thing with Lovecat being all groomed when emerging from tent, I take it a hairbrush required, right? Your husband has a lot to answer for. Wink

Quenelle · 08/07/2011 09:38

Morning. Hope the weather improves for you today Sal. The weekend in general isn't looking too bad...

I too have a cautious DS, he's only 2 though. DH is extremely risk averse and I think DS gets it from him. I hope we'll have another and DH might unclench a bit with a second.

I've been noting all these campsites as you all mention them. After seeing it recommended here we're planning to go to Norden Farm near Swanage after August Bank Holiday, if we can get in.

GingerWrath · 08/07/2011 09:53

Morning all, car is almost packed for our weekend trip, just the foodstuffs, slow cooker and tv to fit in!Grin

We don't rough it at all!

lostinwales · 08/07/2011 10:07

Morning all, I am stuck inside with a pukey 4 year old and I'm quite glad! There's a really violent vomiting bug going round here and the thought of them having it in a hot tent without washing machines..... ugh doesn't bear thinking about Grin.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone that is camping. Even if it rains a bit the sun is really hot between the showers and will dry eveything out quickly.

I have a cautious DS but he's 11!

MisSalLaneous · 08/07/2011 10:28

Thanks for weather wishes. Group positive thoughts might just swing it!

Haha at tv and slow cooker. If weather horrid all weekend, I'm moving in with you, Ginger!

GingerWrath · 08/07/2011 10:33

Well if it's lashing it down with rain, tent gets zipped up, nice warming bowl of stew and dumplings, glass of wine and Eastenders or a film (tv has an Ipod dock on it, great for charging iPhone!)

lostinwales · 08/07/2011 11:14

actually my family would fit really well with your nn, we call ourselves the ginger Republic!

GingerWrath · 08/07/2011 11:19

Everyone round my tent! It's the one with the blue fairy lights

MisSalLaneous · 08/07/2011 11:34

Hah, not after I realised you're picking the stormiest spot in England!

GingerWrath · 08/07/2011 11:41

I am going with a positive attitude (and waterproofs and lots of wine)

MisSalLaneous · 08/07/2011 11:44

Joking aside, it sounds lovely and cosy. As long as I'm not cold and wet, I love the sound of rain on canvas.

GingerWrath · 08/07/2011 12:14

The tent got well tested on it's last outing so we will be lovely and dry and cosy. Taking a little heater too so we will be all snugly.

lostinwales · 08/07/2011 13:07

Ginger you are actually making your tent sound like a better option than being at home tonight, I am very jealous and now planning electric hook up supplies for our big tent next year.

GingerWrath · 08/07/2011 13:23

We got our EHU kit here quite cheaply, has made loads of difference to our camping. No more swapping ice packs round, heat when it's freezing etc.

SeaShellsAndTheInlawInvasion · 08/07/2011 14:11

You tent definitely sounds more inviting than my house ATM! I hope the weather isn't too awful for you

Slubberdegullion · 08/07/2011 14:13

Have a good time Ginger.

Weather is atrocious here, hope it is better for you.

GingerWrath · 08/07/2011 14:14

Thanks for the weather wishes guys, sunshine and showers atm, hopefully by the time we get there it'll be in the sunshine bit.

Just waiting for DH to finish work and we are off!

glitterkitty · 08/07/2011 16:16

seashells thank you for the tips on swanage area!

have gone a bit mad, bought a wee swingbin just the right size for tent for 2.50 only. dp will be Hmm

also got new lovely airbed (34 reduced to 13 in millets).

Here is a thing I really wish I had: a heater that can be a cool air fan in summer. Because mine are 2 seperate things and its annoying every year.

Hope you have fun ginger, where is storm centre?

SeaShellsAndTheInlawInvasion · 08/07/2011 18:54

:) I hope you have a fab trip

MisSalLaneous · 08/07/2011 19:20

Confession: I chickened out of camping tonight and will only be leaving first thing tomorrow morning. Car is packed and everything. I feel a little bit ashamed of myself.

SeaShellsAndTheInlawInvasion · 08/07/2011 19:32

Don't blame you tbh, we've had very strong winds and are miles from anywhere that's meant to get wild.

You've just saved yourself a job tomorrow!

MisSalLaneous · 08/07/2011 19:36

Thanks SeaShells, makes me feel slightly better. :) Weather's very unsettled and changing this week - funny year we're having.

YellowDinosaur · 09/07/2011 09:48

Hello ladies, The sun is trying to come out this am so fingers crossed those who were hoping to camp but didn't want to be washed out will make it!

I've been reading posts on this thread but you are so chatty whenever I have managed to catch up I never have time to post back. Totally pmsl at the big metal chicken! Dh read it with a mildly bemused / slightly terrified look on his face - you could see him thinking 'At least Yellow wouldn't do that... OMG she actually might!' as he got further and further through it! Would be particularly amusing since I am in fact the same height as the big metal chicken!!! I'm thinking that when he discovers all the camping stuff I have bought when we go to pack this year that I can just say 'big metal chicken' and put it all in perspective! Grin

Regarding the death socks and sandals - while I can TOTALLY see that they make sense, I am not sure I could do the socks! I appreciate this is ridiculous (and that in slubbers situation they are in fact essential) and I too am a slummy camper while being of the 'rarely leave the house without straightened hair and makeup' brigade while at home. I guess the crack for me is that I don't do that much in the way of walking - we go playing on the beach / in the woods / by and in the river but don't walk too far to get there. So my Havaianas / wellies are more than sufficient for what I need in terms of footwear. Dh would piss himself that I am on a thread discussing the merits of death socks / sandals and tent pegs (mine too are bent and not bent).

Anyway better go and get dressed now since it is ds2 nursery fayre this am... Doing the Race for Life tomorrow so give me a cheer at 9.30!

lostinwales · 09/07/2011 11:04

Hello Yellow (ooh that rhymes)

I don't think I could in all honesty do death socks and sandals in a general capacity but if I was yomping up a mountain side then sadly I think I would rock that look.

Is is really evil to buy sandals (for wearing sans death socks) on line? We are going a week tomorrow and there isn't time before then that I can do the day trip that is going to shops. I am having to concede that I can't have ones like slubbers as my feet are like boats quite wide, what to get?
