my dh has dreamt forever of owning a campsite and now finally we are in the position to move forward and actually maybe do it!! its all very exciting and will be a drastic change of living for us if it happens.
But I was just looking for some general opinions/advice about what would be your campsite must haves. We would be a family run campsite aimed at families.... what would you want or need in a campsite??? Pool? Kids club? Bar/resturant etc etc??

A million thank yous in advance for any help!!

I meant QUIET door obviously, not quite HmmBlush

I would say include shower costs as that comes under my charging for sauce analogy - only reason I say no to free showers is purely because of inconsiderate people who think they are at home and should spend half an hour in there. But a sign up reminding people in some funny way could work Smile

I knew what you meant maxybrown, nothing worse than a toilet door that bangs everytime someone walks through it, especially if you've been unlucky enough to get the dud pitch next to the toilet block.

I hadn't actually thought about shower costs like that before, its an interesting point. I've haven't been on a site where you have to pay for showers for years. I guess because we only tend to camp on small sites there's never too much of a queue for the showers and after a while you learn when its quiet and go then.

Continuing on the shower theme, maxybrown I wonder if the same is to be had in the mens'? I'm a 'crack on with it' kind of shower girl and the shower (singular) at the site I stayed at this weekend was beyond infuriating.

Quite apart from the idiotic meter on the outside (requiring an arranged coin drop by some random but kindly person in the loos) I had no idea how long it was going to actually last. A small laminated sign would have come in handy here Wink. You do the crazed hair and body wash (to the sound of the William Tell Overture) and then as DB has said before, you have the russian roulette of do I or don't I condition? And then....water .....more water....water [mr men theme tune] water water ... fgs in the time I spent rinsing and rinsing I could have washed my entire family and those in the tent next to us. And no way to turn it off.

grr

It did have a detachable head though (which I used and contemplated as I had time to fill in until the damn thing turned off) and thought how useful that is when washing small people.

On the sinks front, just providing a little stool (of the step variety) for children to stand on to wash their hands is excellent.

ha ha ha ha oh that made me laugh with the william tell overture. I usually drop everything, shout at DS a lot, he screams, argh! So yes I hate paying for showers like that too................hmm, perfect solution? I know, have a sign up at entrance saying something like " We kindly provide showers free of charge, if you are one of the inconsiderate people that think this entitles you to shower in long luxury whilst maxybrown stands outside with her small son who is shower phobic anyway, then kindly realise this is not for you" or some such words anyway Grin

a lot of us with shower bug bears.

Needanewname - you clearly have excellent taste! Grin We went there last year and loved it. We lucked out in that we got a field (at the back) all to ourselves. We went with friends and their two boys, so it was perfect to have all that open space for the children to run around in.

Needanewname · 03/05/2011 20:47

Thats where we were this weekend, fab, though do need a few more loos!
