Coleman bags seem to have a following, though I would be tempted to buy two vangos, one L zip and one R zip and join them together if needed

secretskillrelationships · 23/04/2011 08:41

We got two singles which zip together, have one on bottom and one on top with zips down the sides and bottom. Worked well for us and now we've separated we now have two singles!

Tikkabillajive · 23/04/2011 08:42

Yes we've got this Coleman one (we got it from GoOutdoors so was probably a bit cheaper than this, I can't remember though) and it is really snuggly.

Am slightly panicked to think that people are camping already - I've got a worrying feeling I've lost my camping mojo this year, have yet to book any trips!

AitchTwoOh · 23/04/2011 09:53

it was the coleman one i was looking at, does seem to be popular on amazon. does anyone have their kids in one or would that just be ridiculous?

OP posts:
Tikkabillajive · 23/04/2011 10:50

Not ridiculous - I've often thought my two would be better off in one on a double airbed as it's warmer and they always seem to roll off their readybeds. Would also solve the inevitable bed swapping problem when ds wakes up and wants to come in with me - poor old DH always ends up trying to sleep on a junior readybed with all the jumpers over him to keep warm!

AitchTwoOh · 23/04/2011 11:32

that's true, we could have a kid each, me and dh. we always complain that when they come into our beds it's like sleeping with a human torch, might be an idea to put that to good use. Grin
we've recently bought self inflating mattresses and basically intend to floor out the sleeping area with them, it was becoming too annoying getting kicked off the airbed by various children...
anyway, thanks for the advice, i've ordered the coleman. dh isn't coming on our next trip so i will almost cetrainly end up with the three of us in there so can order another if i think it'll be useful.

The Coleman (well a Coleman) won an award in last month's C&C magazine so they must be pretty good.

Slubberdegullion · 25/04/2011 09:23

{post loo visit edit}

Not the C&C mag, 'twas Camping Magazine Awards, and it was the Coleman Hampton 220.

AitchTwoOh · 25/04/2011 11:32

cheers, Slub, SO glad to see you back. roundup v tricky during Lent...
hopefully the hudson is similar to the hampton. different temperature extremes but boast of much the same 'technology'.

OI!

Love,
Someone who was in the roundup during Lent

PS HI Slubs!

Lovely to be back.

I bought and made a whole heap of camping stuff over lent and had NO ONE to discuss it with. It was torture.

re the coleman bags, in the magazine they are described as being soft with plenty of loft. I love a rhyming description as much as a lofty bag.

made? do tell. i am currently considering (and rejecting) the idea of turning £1.32 Ikea pillows into camping ones using a home-made cotton stuff sack. or should i just continue to rest my head on damp towels?

OP posts:
Slubberdegullion · 25/04/2011 12:43

Damp towels! Heavens above no. Quickest way to develop to develop some sort of Victorian ailment on your bronchials and a nasty consumptive cough.

Ikea folding pillows sound excellent and probably identical to my Coleman camping pillows that I splashed out on in a moment of euphoria after getting a 20% reduction on my deeply snazzy sleeping bags, thusly negating any bartering savings I actually made.

What I have been making are sleeping bag liners/self inflating mat covers and MATCHING pillow case covers with my mothers 50 cubic tonnage of winceyette pastel striped sheets (you know the type - ALL our mothers had them in their trousseau in the days before duvets) that she had safely stored away for the last 35 years.

Proper liners they are to with fold down frontage so the back section can tuck away into the hood section of your sleeping bag while the front section folds down and over the front of your bag to maintain cleanliness from stray night time dribbling.

On top of that I have made 4 thermal fleece liners which are so very versatile and awesome that I hesitate to call them liners. I have lovingly sewn (my mother also assisted) Velcro patches on them so they can be opened as a single blankets, joined together as a double fleece liner, used sans bag with winceyette liners as a summer evening bed covering...oh the list of uses is endless. A veritable smorgasbord of campsite bedding choices.

They also have fold down flaps.

I will be photographing them next weekend in all their glory.

I am on thrifty camping smuggery level 11.

AitchTwoOh · 25/04/2011 12:48

ooooooooooooh. i do like the fleece/velcro idea... that sounds like a zero-hemming option.

OP posts:
Slubberdegullion · 25/04/2011 13:03

The velco side of things were hem free, but my God a bastard to sew on.

The flapdown frontage required some neatening up of cut edges, but flaps are optional.

AitchTwoOh · 25/04/2011 13:14

i would almost certainly use stick-on patches. [slattern]

DUVET COVERS AS LINERS! i love you, sal.

OP posts:
Slubberdegullion · 25/04/2011 13:23

Yes but all it would take was one overenthusiastic bound out of bed, or a wild abandoned bag liner opening in order to access spouse for in-tent love making and your stick on Velcro would come asunder.

I can rest easy in the knowledge that should passion overtake me at least my sleeping bag liner will remain intact.

Slubberdegullion · 25/04/2011 13:26

just wait till the photos Sal! The stripes on the sheets pillow cases each match one of the fleece liners.

I do concede that duvet covers may have been an altogether easier solution.

Worryingly I am more excited about fart arsing about and photographing bedding options (and new cool box) than I am about the folk festival we are going to.
