Overeaten massively - how much weight will I put on?

As the title says really ... massively indulged, I usually only have around around 2k maintenance calories and today hit 4.5k.

Google suggests that an extra 3.5k calories equates to a pound of fat, has that been other people's experience here too? Surely your body can't put that much fat on in one sitting?

It’s a one off. You’ll be fine. Just get back to normal eating tomorrow.

Changingplace · 12/03/2023 17:55

As a one off I’d just forget about it, go back to your normal diet tomorrow and give it no more extra thought.

DanceMonster · 12/03/2023 17:55

Yes 3.5k calories is approx 1lb of fat. But as a PP says, just go back to normal tomorrow (or cut your calories a bit to make up for it). No point stressing about it, you’ve eaten the calories and it’s done now.

CampervanKween · 12/03/2023 17:59

My son told me you can only put on 1lb in a day. Not sure how true that is, but it should come off easily if you get back on it.

TheyIndeed · 12/03/2023 18:18

Thanks all. It was delicious, just hope I haven't done too much damage!

I find my body seems to appreciate the occasional blow out. I get back on track more quickly after one.

It’s not true at all, how would your body know to stop at exactly 1lb? Units of measurement are a completely man made construct.

I will hope for the same 🤞🤞🤞

Just forget it and move on, back to normal tomorrow. Xx

I've been reading this with some reassurance 😬

It's fine. You won't pile on loads of weight because of one blow out... Just like you (sadly) don't lose loads after just one exercise class.

MaireadMcSweeney · 12/03/2023 19:03

You might gain a lb of fat over the next few days if you continue eating maintenance calories but you could create a 2500 calorie deficit over the next week and it will balance out.
that's a lot of calories!! I hope it was delicious 😁

TheyIndeed · 12/03/2023 19:30

It was amazing! I regret everything and absolutely nothing all at once Grin

May avoid the scales for a bit.

Just be aware if you weigh yourself in the next couple of days you will likely hold a little water weight if the food you ate was salty or processed. Don't freak out, it will come back off.

TheyIndeed · 14/03/2023 06:03

For anyone who's interested, I was up by over 2 pounds yesterday, 1.5 pounds today 😅

OP posts:
Justleaveitblankthen · 14/03/2023 06:56

Any immediate weight gain will be water.

Every gram of Carb consumed, generates 3-4 grams of water. If you feel bloated it will pass.

By the end of the week it will be as though it never happened 😇

TheyIndeed · 14/03/2023 09:44

That would be great!

Though .... does that mean that you could have a massive blow out every week and never put weight on? Surely at some point you start piling it on?

OP posts:
TurnipSurprise · 14/03/2023 13:20

as a one off there wouldn't be much damage but as a regular thing you would start to put weight on yes.

TheyIndeed · 18/03/2023 05:32

A week later of eating at maintenance and I'm still up but only by about 0.7 pounds, which I think could happen anyway, so that's pretty cool. So huge massive feasts every so often it is!

Oh no this is me tonight. Big takeaway.

Wish I hadn't now but was delicious at the time. I've been surviving on 1200 calories a day for 4 weeks but was feeling really good with myself.

Not so much now!

TheyIndeed · 19/03/2023 10:27

Hope you enjoyed it @ilovewispas!

What did you eat for that many calories??

As an occasional thing, this will be fine. Imagine, as hunter gatherers our ancient ancestors would feast occasionally and then not have all that much to eat in between times.

I'd like to warn you about the potential damage having a regular feast will do to your blood sugar control.

I wish someone had told me about this before I wrecked my blood sugar control.

Me? A large thin pizza, three slices of cheesy garlic bread, half a tub of Ben and Jerry's and several chocolate biscuits.

Do you think every three or four weeks would damage it @FinallyHere?
