Hi. It's my first day of going back to calorie counting in 2/3 years. I was 389 calories over. I'm not sure what I could have cut out.

So deflated.

I'm not sure I'm doing it right. I know I shouldn't put I had a tiny bit of butter.

It seems so high for what I ate.

Thank you.

@Harpydragon

I have just started calorie counting too I have massive amount of weight to lose so my calories are more than yours, but I plan my day in advance. So I work out my evening meal and then lunch then breakfast. You need to weigh everything to make sure that you get the right amount of food. I have found it very useful in giving me an idea of what a proper portion size looks like. Eg 1/2 a can of soup is one portion, but I always have a whole can so count it as 2. Fill up on protein, fruit and veg. Have smaller portions of carby things. I guess it's about balance. I see that you are using nutracheck. Me too, I love the fact that you can give yourself easier days once or twice a week. It does mean you eat slightly less on some days but I'm OK with that. I would check your calorie allowance is correct for your weight. 1200 calories is really low and I wouldn't last long on that!
I second this as well, you need to weigh everything. Every single thing!

Because I think we underestimate exactly how much a serving is quite easily. If you think about your average bowl of cereal, i bet you'd be surprised if you weighed out what the box states is a serving.

Regularsizedrudy · 21/01/2022 11:37

1200 is so low! I would go for 1600 you should still lose on that

Colleen92 · 21/01/2022 11:40

What is your start weight (and height) and what is the goal weight you are trying to get to?

If you genuinely get hungry - always drink a glass of water first to help you decide, if you still feel hungry 5 mins after the glass of water then you probably are - try foods like:

Boiled egg
Carrot sticks, courgette sticks, cucumber sticks
Oats/porridge
Baked potato with low fat spread or no spread and half ton of beans

You may just need to wean down to 1200 (if that is correct, seems a low figure but if you are quite big/heavy it's absolutely fine) to combat hunger. Try 1800 for a few days, then 1600, then 1400.... Don't worry about the odd mistake or day over - just keep trying Smile

Colleen92 · 21/01/2022 11:41

Half TIN!!! Haha, see - mistakes are easy to make!!
Definitely don't eat a half ton of beans...! ConfusedGrin

Thank you for all the tips.

I did juice plus 3 years ago and the woman I signed up with is my next door neighbour. I said I was signing up as she could help me with all my questions. I can't diet alone. She had a Facebook group and lots mentioned she helped them lots. I gave up.

I don't work and spent £120 😦

I meant to add the photo of the oil earlier not just now.

OP posts:
PattyPan · 21/01/2022 12:00

You don't need oil at all. I cook without it. Just put a little water in the pan to stop things sticking. (Disclaimer I don't cook meat/eggs which are more likely to stick but should still be ok in a properly heated pan). I'm a bit wary of the crap they add to oil sprays.

Harpydragon · 21/01/2022 12:02

So I've just done a quick calculation for Tdee and guesstimated your age at 35! Your maintenance calories come out at 1978 per day.
I think if you dropped to 1500 calories a day you would still lose weight, it would be slow but more achievable for you.
This is the link so you can work it out properlytdeecalculator.net/result.php?s=imperial&g=female&age=35&lbs=203&in=67&act=1.2&f=2

Once you've lost some weight and got used to eating less and pepper portions size, then drop it again if you need to

PurpleDaisies · 21/01/2022 12:03

What about aiming for 1500 calories? That seems much more achievable.

Thank you for this.

This is the app that said 1200.

I'm 37 so very close.

According to the stats you've provided you would maintain your weight at 2000 calories a day, so anything under that would lead to a loss.

If you go with 500 below that would be 1-2lb a week rough estimate loss so I think you should set you goal to 1500 at least.

Up your protein and reduce the carbs if you can, it will help you feel fuller for longer.

1500 is a good idea.

An alternative is to look at your calorie intake across a week. 1500 calories a day is 10,700 a week. It can allow you to maybe be 1200 on one day and 1700 the next.

By thinking that you can get some back the next day if you go slightly over on one day, it means you can be more relaxed about being slightly over.

If you reduce the amount you want to lose per week it will slightly increase your calories. See what it says at 1/2 or 1lb

You seem really down on yourself.

That lunch in particular looks nice. I wouldn’t have had the bread on the side of the noodles and that would most likely have taken you under 1500 calories.

RevolvingPivot · 21/01/2022 13:18

I didn't like the bread. Yes I have depression and anxiety. Hate life to be honest. I'm isolating this week and my life hasn't changed one but. (I don't actually have Covid I entered the wrong result 😬😬🙄).

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 21/01/2022 13:28

I haven't heard of skinny sprinkles but just want to say that you really don't need lots of expensive products or services.

Overall what you have been eating is falling below your maintenance calories, so it's good and you will see weight loss if you continue to eat like this.

If I look at your noodles dish you posted. I would have ditched the pitta and added a load of green veg or mushrooms to the noodles. You'd get loads more food, enough to feel full without the calories.

You can have a cup full of mushrooms for less than 20 calories.

There's a thread on Mumsnet called Lose it - January 2022

They have a new thread each month and are really supportive. Would you find it useful to join in so you can have people who are trying to lose weight to and can buoy you up, offer suggestions and support you in that goal?

PurpleDaisies · 21/01/2022 13:37

Have you tried phoning test and trace? If you haven’t tested positive, you don’t need to isolate.
