I want to lose weight!!!

I have been inspired by someone on my Facebook who has lost around 4 stone in the past year calorie counting using MFP.

Does anyone else want to join me?

I've got the app, been using it for 6 days and lost a whopping 6lbs already.

I need some others to help keep me going & share recipes, tips and motivation with!

6lbs in 6 days is really not healthy or sustainable. The recommended amount is 1-2lbs a week

SchrodingersImmigrant · 27/06/2021 13:52

The first week iften includes water and natural movements.

How many cals are you on? Keep it healthy and keep it up 😁 It works

blubberball · 30/06/2021 06:44

I use mfp. I would recommend YouTube channels Louise's journey, obese to beast and Greg Douchette for motivation and inspiration. I used the NHS website to work out how many calories I should be on to lose weight. At the moment, it's set at 1955 calories a day. Just remember to check again and adjust your calories as you lose weight. I started my journey in January 2020, and I've gone from 15st 8lbs to 13st 2lbs so far. It's been slow going, with some set backs. I only started calorie counting a month or so ago, and I only joined the gym a couple of months ago. This is the most sustainable thing I've ever done in my life. I always give up on diets, but so long as you don't set your calories too low, and you lose slowly and gradually, it will work and be more sustainable. Just remember to track everything. Sauces and oils, nibbles on your kid's snacks. Everything. Make swaps to lower calorie alternatives to your favourite foods where possible. Try to avoid drinking your calories. Good luck!

hopeishere · 30/06/2021 06:49

I've lost over two stone on MFP! I'm sticking to 1200 cals (roughly) a day. And doing a 50 minute walk. I've two more stones to go!

Menora · 01/07/2021 08:17

I’m trying not to diet but change my eating habits for better choices to lose weight and feel better. I use both MFP to enter the food and the NHS weight loss app for the BMI and daily calorie allowance. Both have different calories per day on them 😂 - MFP has 1500 and the app has 1900 so I sit around 1400-1500 but I feel like this gives me a buffer if I ‘go over’ it’s not the end of the world I would still hopefully be in a deficit. If I restrict too much I will binge. I didn’t lose anything week 1 and found that hard but I think I am finally losing now, I can’t exercise much so I don’t think my week 1 deficit was large enough for a loss.

Menora · 01/07/2021 08:18

Also I use slimming world type diet tips like swapping oil for frylite but always count sauces, they have more cals than you realise

LargeInCharge · 02/07/2021 09:32

I’ve lost almost two stones since April 13th using mfp. I log everything I eat and drink and stick to 1200 calories a day.

It helps me make better choices food wise and I’m hitting nutrient goals.

Alannawhorideslikeaman · 06/07/2021 08:28

I used mfp last year and lost over a stone. I stopped using it and put it all back on. Hmm which shows me I really do need to be accountable for what in eating. Back on from yesterday, lost 2lbs the first day which is obviously water weight / my body being shocked that I haven't stuffed my face all day. From past experience I tend to lose about 4lbs in the first week and then a steady 1/2lbs there after, with the odd plateau. Getting through those is the hardest.

Basic rules are track absolutely everything. I'm guilty for estimating Blush and obviously it's really easy to go off track doing that. We use Gousto a lot for dinners and I find that easier to track than something like homemade Bolognese where you have to count in every sodding ingredient.

I've got 1.5-2stone to lose, hoping my brain is back in a better place because I've had a few false starts. Worst thing for me is the treats put in the staff break room! Can't say no to a doughnut or three

felulageller · 06/07/2021 17:16

I use mfp and have lost over 4 stones. I stopped for a bit thinking I could do it on my own now but the weight loss stalled so I'm back on it.

It says 1200 for me. I can't seem to lose if I eat 15-1600.

m0therofdragons · 13/07/2021 23:24

I eat 1,200 max if I want loss. I’m 5 foot 5 so no idea why I can’t move the weight with more but it just won’t move.

Hod19 · 14/07/2021 18:36

I've been using MFP for about a month now and have lost 8lbs. It's been super eye opening for me for portion size and how many calories are in treats!

Newchances · 14/07/2021 18:47

Lost a atone and half 2 years ago, nearly all back on so back using it now lol. 2lbs down in 3 weeks, slow and steady for me at 1600 cals

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 14/07/2021 19:06

I have been using it since the 6th June. Lost 6lb the first week and a steady 2-3lb a week since (17lb total). I used it 7 years ago and lost 4st but gradually put it and more back on when I stopped using the app. I find this easier than an actual diet, because nothing is forbidden. If I want chocolate I can have it, just a smaller portion so I don't go over my goal.

Webbedlife · 27/07/2021 08:10

I lost 1st 6 lb with MFP this year. I honestly didn't think I'd stick it out, but committed to a month and by then had lost several lbs and was finding the whole process easier. I'm now eating maintenance calories a few months as I decided to only lose 10% at a time after having yoyoed 5st twice with WW in the past with the loose skin to prove it. Biggest bonus for me is I don't have foot pain after being on my feet for a while. I'd previously thought it was just due to getting older... but obesity was the cause.

Webbedlife · 27/07/2021 08:23

My first week's loss was 7lbs which I realised would be water when I was using the MFP calorie allowance for 0.5lb a week. In the end I had a steady 1lb a week loss on average, though.

ceeveebee · 27/07/2021 08:34

I’ve lost 33lbs using MFP but over a longer period (4 months). It sets my target calories are set at 1200 but I also “eat back” half my exercise (and I’ve been doing loads of exercise - working out or running 5-6 times a week as am training for a 10k)

BeWellWithShell · 26/10/2021 22:23

Consistency is key. MFP is great for accountability. With weight loss, nutrition is only part of the picture. Rest, and activity are also important. Whatever you do start small, change small things, be consistent. The lifestyle changes should be ones you make for a lifetime not for a quick fix

absolutelynotfabulous · 30/10/2021 08:34

I couldn't manage without MFP. It makes you so accountable. I use it mainly for maintenence and slow long term loss and generally eat back calories (I'm normal weight). The bar chart function is great.

Fabulous little app.

Brissiegirl · 31/10/2021 08:02

Using the app for 100 days now and I've lost 10kg (22 pounds). Dh is using it too, not as long a me but we have both made noticeable visible weight loss. Yesterday I got my first random "you're looking great " comment. Was so thrilled. Eating proper foods now. Accountability is the key in my mind

Brissiegirl · 31/10/2021 08:10

@BeWellWithShell agree with you re lifetime changes. After years of taking the easy cooking option I'm now taking my time and planning meals with foods and veg I wouldn't eat previously - we have a whole new world of meals every week. So many aisles of the supermarket I now just pass by and concentrate on the veg and fruit, fish and meat counters. So much happier with myself too - better energy, sleep, mood.

Darbs76 · 07/01/2022 20:39

I love MFP, once you’ve been using it for a while too you have the foods stores so easy to log your food

onedayoranother · 07/01/2022 20:44

I love MFP. But be warned it totally overestimates calories burned during exercise so don't count them back, or if you do half them.
I like the new facility of scanning food, though the calories on MFP doesn't always totally tally with what's on the packet (and be sure it doesn't default to 100g as a serving size).
I like the Success Stories - very motivating! If I could only figure out how to not make it go back to p1 every time.

MarineBlue33 · 07/01/2022 20:46

Does MFP work out all the calories for you for any food? What do you have to input?

CharlieBubbles88 · 12/01/2022 13:08

MarineBlue33, you can scan the barcode on most foods and then you input the weight/amount and it calculates the calories for you. Some aren't the same as the pack so I usually double check

zebrarobot · 12/01/2022 13:10

I lost 7 st in 2019 with mfp. The with lockdown and being pregnant in 2020, giving birth in 2021 im back to having ideally 3st to lose. Back on mfp from the 1st Jan. lost 5lbs first week, weigh in is on Saturday.

Good luck, stick with it, dont put your calories too low, go with what it recommends and try and get some decent steps in and you will lose no problem.
